As mentioned above, William and Mary Dafnell made a deed of gift to Mary Ivy, wife of John Ivy, in 1683. William Dafnell’s nuncupative will, proved on 1 October 1686, left a lamb to his granddaughter Mary Ivey, the daughter of Mary Ivey.[8] The will also specified that property left to the widow Mary Dafnell was to be divided among their children at her death, the four children being Elizabeth, wife of Edward Outlaw, Sarah Pucknell (who witnessed John Ivey’s will), Mary Ivy, and William Dafnell Jr. Mary Ivey, John Ivey’s widow, had remarried to Nathaniel Ludgall by 16 September 1696, when a suit by the four heirs of William Dafnell included Nathaniel Ludgall and wife.[9] As Mary Ludgall, she gave consent for the marriage of her daughter Elizabeth Ivey in 1706.[10] Nathaniel Ludgall’s will, dated 4 February 1717/8 and proved on 20 November 1719, gives to his wife Mary “two iron pots which was her own by her former husband John Ivey.â€[11] On 17 May 1720, William Dafnell Jr. of Chowan County, North Carolina deeded land in Norfolk County to John and Sarah Ivey, describing John Ivey as the son of his sister Mary Davenall.[12] Further, John and Thomas Ivey, probably the same persons as the sons of John and Mary Ivey, witnessed a power of attorney by Edward Outlaw (husband of Elizabeth Dafnell) of Chowan County in 1727, which Thomas Ivey proved in the Norfolk court the following year.[13]

1802 - Aug 94 - Divorces and Separations from Petitions to the North Carolina General Assembly: Hoffler, James and wife, Deborah. Petition of James Hoffler of Gates County prays that what property he now has or may hereafter acquire be solely vested in him, and that his wife Deborah be precluded from any right of dower. Committee of Divorce and Alimony is of the opinion that the petitioner's prayer be granted. attached the Petition of James Hoffler of Gates County sheweth that in the Year 1802, he intermarried with Deborah Outlaw in hopes of enjoying the comforts of married life. After a few months, said Deborah left your petitioner and returned to her father, Jacob Outlaw, and refused to return to your petitioner. Said Deborah took up with a certain John Lowance by whom she had one child, and they continue to live in adultery. No hope of reconcilation has ever taken place between said Deborah and your petitioner. Said Deborah's father has taken into possession all the property she was possessed with and continues to hold the same. Petitioner prays for a law to invest him with power to dispose of his estate by will or overwise so as to deprive said Deborah of right of dower and the child or children she may have by said John Lowance from any claim on your petitioner's estate, real or personal, that he now has or may hereafter acquire. Petition endorsed by sixty-nine subscribers including David Outlaw, James Outlaw, and George Outlaw

I have been researching the Outlaw family and came across the name of Kinion Outlaw in several of the Census records at the Archives here in Columbia, SC. I will be happy to look up any info. on Kinion Outlaw if you would like during my next visit. I also travel to Kershaw Co. frequently as my family continues to reside there. Mary Jane Brannon as the 2nd wife fo Wm Outlaw. I had her listed only as Jane. If It is Mary Jane Brannon, dau of John Brannon and Lydia Smith, as I think it might be, then I could share her Brannon Geneology with you. I guess that Wm might be the son of Benjamin Outlaw and Mary Walters, and that Wm was the younger brother or nephew of Burrell Outlaw her first husband. Perhaps you would be willing to e-mail me back and help me focus on which members of the Brannon and Outlaw family we have here. I am willing to share anything I have. I have a fairly good listing of the Kershaw Co. Outlaws.

1815 - Bertie County, NC I am trying to go back for more information on Alford (b. 1815) and Lucy Outlaw, parents of Samuel D. Outlaw (b. 1855, father of Serena Outlaw who married Willie Smallwood). Willie's parents were Whit and Visa Smallwood, who only appeared in Bertie County census on the 1900 census. By 1910, Whit and Visa had disappeared and left some children with grandparents, which were Sterling and Emma Fagan (also grandparents of a Capehart). There is also a Serena Nicholls listed as a mother in the 1880 census (b. about 1800), whom I cannot find in any census records before or after that year. I am assuming she was more of a grandmother to Samuel Outlaw because of her age difference. In Bertie County, there are two major slaveholders listed; one a Smallwood and one an Outlaw. Throughout the years, the family is listed as being mulatto on some census records. There is also family rumor that on the Outlaw side, a half-black, half-Blackfoot indian married a white and thus the mulatto. BUT...prior to 1870 on the census records, I cannot find these people anywhere!!! So, I will post what I have found from 1870 to 1910. If you have any information on any of the following people, please e-mail me:
