I would like to be invited to the Outlaw chat room. My connections to the Outlaws are though my gggrandmother Elizabeth Chester. Her mother's anem was Elizabeth K. Baker (1838-1893). Her father was Blake Baker (1815-1844). His father was John F. Baker (1780-1828). His father was Blake Baker who married Christian Outlaw. Christian married William Freeman. A little fuzzy with Christian's parents. Edward Outlaw and Elizabeth Dafnell were her parents or grandparents. My email address is moromans@aol.com. Thank you.
Was your grandmother Christian married to William Freeman? I have a Christian Outlaw in my tree. Her child Christian Freeman married Blake Baker. their child John Baker also had a child Blake Baker who had a daughter Elizabeth Baker. She was the mother of my gggrandmother Elizabeth Chester. If you have any more information, my email is morormans@aol.com.

George Powell Harrell Outlaw - Bertie County, NC, Cir 1817

This is a wild card...my ggg-grandfather was George P. Harrell (Sr.) of Bertie County NC, also the name of my gg-grandfather. Since Sr.'s mother was a Powell I'm assuming the P stands for her surname, making his full name "George Powell Harrell" which brings me to this curious OUTLAW family with a son named "George Powell Harrell Outlaw". Seems David Outlaw married Mary Ann Powell. If anyone know about this relationship I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks,

Ms. Tommie Harrell Clayton

Where I found this on the web:

http://www.mygen.com/users/outlaw/Outlaw%20Geneology.htm

There is record of the family of one David Outlaw and wife, Mary Ann, (or Morgan) as follows: Rebecca Ann Outlaw; George Powell Harrell Outlaw, born January 24, 181 ;David Stanly Outlaw, born September 22, 1819; Edward John Outlaw, born April 10, 1820; and Joseph Wright Outlaw, born March 10, 1822. Possibly this David Outlaw belongs in the place of one shown in Section 22. He married Mary Ann Powell July 10, 1805.
My husband does have two different Indian blood (Cherokee and Taumaree [or something like that]). His great great great great grandfather's wife was a Cherokee. His great grandfather's wife was a Taumararee (spell?). I need to find out this one.

Hello Peggy,

I'm thinking it's the Ralph side. I'm not quite sure. However, given the fact the first names were passed down quite often, It may be the Edward side. My grandfather's name is Edward, and he is a Sr. We have lots of Edward's in the family the carries up to VII.

I know of lots of cross marriages from the area, so there is a chance that I'm also of the Ralph side.

Let's talk and compare notes, and see where it leads us.

Michael

Looking for information on William (Snowbird) Outlaw married to Helen Whitfield. Not sure of his wife's spelling of the first name, some have her listed as Harriet. She was probably born abt. 1820 in Duplin County, NC.
William is the father of Robert Lee Outlaw b. May 12, 1863 in Duplin County, NC. Robert was married, December 28, 1891, to Nancy (Nannie) Watkins, b.September 28, 1872, Duplin, and d. March 23, 1967. I know Robert and Nannie had at least one son, Carl Wilson Outlaw who was married to my grandmother, Annie Pearl Wiggins McCullen.
Hope to find someone with these names, especially starting with Carl Wilson, who he was, what he did for a living, etc. all the fill-in stuff to make genealogy interesting.
thanks
Vickie
vsm54@hotmail.com

Re: JAMES. A. OUTLAW

It is possible that your James A. Outlaw may have descended from Edward Outlaw who came from England with his brother, Captain John Outlaw who owned a ship. Edward eventually stayed in Norfolk, married an Elizabeth Dafnell. Captain John Outlaw went back to England. Edward and Elizabeth stayed here and had four children -- two girls who had their last names changed when they married and two boys -- Edward and Ralph. I suspect your James A. Outlaw came from Edward Outlaw whereas my husband's grandfather (Wayland Outlaw) was descended from Ralph. Edward Outlaw had so many generations scattered all over VA, NC, SC, GA, AL, TX, and up to Kansas/Missouri. Ralph's generations were much smaller and tended to stay together, and a lot of them are in NC, especially in Bertie and Hertford Counties.

Hope this helps. If not, please do get in touch with me.

Hi

I am curious which generation your mom came from. I believe Thomas had two sons named Edward and Captain John Outlaw. Both left England for Norfolk, VA, on Captain John's ship. Captain John always got into trouble with the law, and apparently having had enough, he returned to England. Edward stayed, married Elizabeth Dafnell, and had two girls and two boys -- Edward and Ralph. My Ralph married an Anne (maiden name unknown) prior to July 16, 1714, and had seven sons. Edward married someone and had many children. His generation is huge and scattered all over starting from Norfolk down to GA to Texas to up North such as Kansas and Missouri. Ralph's generation is much smaller and tight, staying close by usually in Bertie and Hertford Counties, NC.

Linda,

I strongly believe you are descended from Edward Outlaw who came to Norfolk, VA, with his brother Captain John Outlaw (he owned a ship) from England. Captain Outlaw always got into trouble with the law, and apparently having had enough, returned to England. Edward stayed and married Elizabeth Dafnell. They had four children -- two girls and two boys (Edward and Ralph). Edward's generations are so big and scattered starting from Norfolk down to Georgia to Texas to up North. Ralph's generations are much smaller and very bonded. Most of them can be found in Bertie and Hertford Counties, NC. Based on the information you provided, it is possible you are from Edward's side.

I have the book called something like Historical of Southern Family. It is mainly about the Outlaw generation.

Re: JAMES. A. OUTLAW

I am sorry I didn't provide the dates. Edward and his brother John came to Norfolk, VA, in late 1600s. Edward's son, Ralph Outlaw, married an Anne (maiden name unknown) prior to July 16, 1714. I have the book called Historical of Southern Families (something like that), and it concentrates mainly about the Outlaw generation. There were/are so many James Outlaws in Edward and Ralph's generations. In fact, I am trying to find James Outlaw's wife whose maiden name was unknown. That's where my husband's uncle and I are stuck. We were able to find Edward and John from England down to a James and Nancy Outlaw, and from my sons up to a James and Nancy Outlaw, but at this point, in the middle, we are stuck. I was suggested a possibility that Nancy may have been a Floyd, but there is no proof since the court house in Hertford County where all records were kept was burned down during the Civil War. If you have such information I am looking for, it would be greatly appreciated!!

By the way, I forget why you are looking for James A. Outlaw?
I was also told we were black Dutch one of my uncles told me to look at my flat thumbs and he compared them to his which was also flat I guess he meant that indicated we were Black Dutch, which I later in life understand as being from an area in Germany.I was under the impression that the name Outlaw came from England,if anyone can add any info.
