Dear Mark Overland

I am currently researching my family tree, and I notice that you posted some info on the Overlands. I've traced my ancestors to Outwell, Carbrooke, and Saham Toney.

I apologise for taking up your time, I would appreciate any information you could give me concerning my research.

I know that my great ,great, great, great, great grandfather William OVERLAND b1741 in CARBROOKE, he married Ellen ELEANOR and had a son called, George OVERLAND, born 1775 in SHIPDHAM, NORFOLK. He is buried in the church yard at St Peters, Upwell. I located the grave on Sunday 27th April. He apparently was the Sexton of St Peters.

He married a woman called Margaret GOTOBED! They had a son called William b1805, who married Sarah KNOWLES and had a son called William b 1831, who married Emma and had a son called Frederick b 1873, who married Zenobia Smith and had a daughter called Maggie Overland b 1902, (my grandmother).

Maggie moved to Plaistow, London married a man called Charles GREEN, and became Eastenders. They are both deceased, and I am curious to discover my family history, and it‘s connections in NORFOLK.

I have heard rumours of a Scandinavian connection, and wreckers of the coast.I would appreciate any help or advice you could give me in this enquiry.

Yours sincerely
Kevin Austin
Victor, have you backtracked your family through the censuses? You can start with 1930 and work your way back, except for the 1890 which unfortunately was destroyed by fire. That would be a place to start.

There seems to be a real shortage of people researching these names. My people are Overlin's but I'm wondering if the Overland's aren't connected by way of misspellings here and there? My Overlin family came to Indiana from KY about 1815. Do any of you match this?

Hello Sharon, Thank you for the information. I made a stupid mistake, just to be completely clear it was John Overland born about 1831 son of Richard and married in 1853 to Maria Low born about 1834 . Both from Southery.
I am actually following the Low/Proctor families from Hilgay and Southery. I am in Norwich.Which family are you following?
Do you know anything else about them. Did Maria have any more children? Where they lived in Australia? When did she die? I would be greatful for any informationthat you could give me.
I do have some information on other Overlands but you probably already have it.

? OVERLAND m. William MOON, Sr. in NC - Any Cousins Here?

I'm putting my hand out on this one...
I have ZERO info on my OVERLAND grt grt grt grandmother, who married William MOON, Sr. He was born in 1776, so I'm guessing she was born around that time, as well. They lived in Cane Creek, NC. Since there's the tale about their grandson, Larken MOON being Cherokee, and since there's absolutely NO info regarding this particular ancestor from North Carolina, I'm thinking that it's possible SHE was of Cherokee blood.
I'm told her grandson, Larken, who was my Great Great Grandfather, was adopted by Quakers. Could be true, but since I have nothing on his supposed birth parents, I'm going to stretch and say maybe his own Grandmother was full Cherokee.
Any takers...with any info? I sure would be greatful to hear from any OVERLAND cousins!
Thank you, SharonStatler@myfamily.com

Mark,

I have a Trond Overland b. 1650 as an ancestor. He had at least one son Sondre who married Kari Ossovde. They had at least four children - Trond, Odd Norigar Eddan, Svein, and Inger.

I am wondering if it possible that these Overlands had originated in either Scotland or in England.
I am searching for the Overland roots. I have been trying to locate Overland's in Colorado, but i have been unsuccessful. My Overland family has no idea about where our family originated from and i am trying to research as much data as possible. I saw your query and thought i would write to you. There is a possiblity that most Overland's came from England and settled in several places in the USA. Possibly you may know if any Overland's that may have settled in Golden, Jefferson County, Colorado? Thanks for your help.

The 1920 census lists that Andrew S. Overland has started his papers for naturalization. Those papers may very well list his home area in Norway. Also the church records were he and his family attended may have noted the original parish of his baptism/confirmation.
Many Norwegians entered through Ellis Island in the early 1900's - you could also check those entry papers. Lots of detail information was collected on each immigrant in 1904. If you can find WHERE in Norway he was from you'll have a very very good chance to find his parentage and family history.

Looking for any/all relatives and/or info. I am Joseph Overland, son of Edwin Overland, son of Helmer Overland, son of Andrew Overland. All of us lived in Stoughton Wisconsin. I believe Andrew was the first generation in the USA from Norway. Helmer was married to Hazel (maiden name unknown) and lived in Indiana during the depression. If you have any info on my history, please e-mail me. I am curious and would like to be able to pass it on to my son, Andrew Overland (named after his Great-great-grandfather).

I just happened to be looking through this and saw your message. I thought it was interesting because my grandfather's name was Guy Overland too. Maybe this is
a coincidence because my father didn't have any brothers named Dave. My father's name was Leslie Overland and he had 2 brothers and 2 sisters: Marjorie, Wesley, Nels and Betty. My grandmother's maiden name was Ethel Temple.
If this might be your family let me know and I can fill you in on what I know.

Hello - I am looking for any information relating to my maternal grandmother. She died early in life, early 1930s, from pneumonia, in Texas. I believe she was born there as well. Her marriage to my grandfather, James Arthur Haynes, brought several children into the world - Geraldine, Madora Jean (My mother), Ernest (the youngest), Laura (who died in her early 10s) - these are the only ones I can think of. She had numerous step-children from my grandfather's many marriages. She is buried in Texas, of that I'm sure. I have been to her grave (and Laura's)

I have been told by elder family members that my mother and grandmother were part indian, of the Comanche.

While my mother indeed looked the part, I have no idea if it's true. I am just interested in the "who I am" part!!

Thanks! And God Bless!

If anyone has anything to add to this please let me know. I am trying to find out who Andrew Overlands parents were and what Bertina's last name was.
Andrew S. Overland was born abt. 1874 in Norway. He came to the US in 1904. His wifes name was Bertina. They had 5 children. One died and I believe his name was Miller. The surviving children were Clara Overland (Kadlecik) she was my husbands grandmother. Clara was born in 1902 in Norway. She died in 1982 in Kenosha WI. She had 2 children Donald Joseph (my husbands dad) died in 2002 in Racine, WI and Beverly Kadlecik(Lane) Not sure what year she died. The other children of Andrew and Bertina were Helmer born 1906 died 1987, Edwin and Mildred Overland (McFarland) born 1912. Beverly Overland(Lane) owned the the cottage in Stoughton when she died. I don't know if her kids still own it.
