Looking for Parents of Charles D. Overmyer, b. ca. 1875 in OH

Dear Overmyer Cousins,

I'm helping an Overmyer descendant (David Overmyer of Tucson, AZ) trace his Overmyer lineage back to Capt. John George Overmyer for the purpose of joining the Sons of the American Revolution. I have his line back only 4 generations, to Charlie/Charley D. Overmyer.

I've proven his line with both the 1910 and 1920 censuses for Sand Springs Precinct/Limestone County/AL that the Charles D. and Mary E. Overmyer family consisted of the following:

Charles/Charley D., b. ca. 1875, born in Ohio, both parents born in Ohio
Mary E., b. ca. 1883, born in Ohio, both parents born in Ohio
All children born in AL:
Sarah E., b. ca. 1902
Henry E., b. ca. 1904
Lonnie A., b. ca. 1906
James L. b. ca. 1909
Roy, b. ca. 1910
Oscar J., b. ca. 1913

Can one of you family historians find the parents of this Charles D. Overmyer for me? If not, which web sites do you recommend that I place queries on?

Looking forward to the big reunion next year. I've done a lot of preparatory research and hope to help any number of JGO descendants qualify for membership in the SAR.

Thanks for your help!

Yours in Patriotic Service,
Larry P. Cornwell
Col. Larry P. Cornwell, USAF-Ret.
(Capt JGO>Maria Magdalena who married Peter Witmer)
Hi Betty,

I got a copy of the Overmyer History book by Barnhart & John Overmyer, but not the one you mentioned. Would you please look up Jacob Overmyer in your book and see whether a Margaret Overmyer is listed as his daughter. Also, would you please check to see if a marriage date is given between Jacob Overmyer (Overmire) and Catharine Binkley. I have seen it given as both in 1812 and 1815. If it is 1815, it opens the possibility of there being an earlier first wife.

Thanks,
Julia Hann

To you and everyone, I want you to go to Ancestory.com and look for OBERMAYER, JOHN GEORGE or any of them. Pick the oldest Obermayer, and go from there. I can tell you are a long lost cousin by looking at the surnames you are researching.
I had to go to the latest one to find my grandmother. The name has been changed so many times. Those name changes are still the same family. You are all in for a treat! Be sure to know sometimes the names are quite the same even the given names as in my case. Luckily I knew my grandmother's birthday was Valentine's Day and when she died, I was only 9. Good Luck to all and Happy hunting.
Betty

Scott,
Let me know how I go about getting the online version of the Overmeyer Book.
My GG Grandmother (maiden name) was a Overmeyer. Her first name was Lovina. She married my gg grandfather, James A. Marsh. I believe most of the Overmeyer family was from Pennsylvania and settled in Iola, Kansas. There were eleven children and then one of those children had eleven more. wow.....most of my records are in storage right now because of a move, so hard to give you too many details. Let me know what you have.

Gayle (Marsh - maiden name)

Re: Michael OVERMYER

I believe this Michael Overmyer is the son of Henry and Elizabeth Overmyer. Henry was born 20 Oct 1819 in Union Co., PA, the son of William Overmyer and Susannah Sanders. Henry died 8 Mar 1859 in Lindsey, Sandusky Co., OH, curiously enough of a gunshot accident. This is recounted in the Overmyer History Book, I believe. Henry's wife, Elizabeth, apparently went to Indiana after his death. Michael would have been about 4 years old at this father's death and went with his mother to Indiana. Hope this helps.
Mary Ann Sieberg

Michael OVERMYER

I came across the following newspaper article in a search for another Overmyer. I can't connect this Michael to anyone in my database. If you have the connections please let me know.

TRENTON EVENING TIMES, TRENTON, NJ, MARCH 14, 1891

Murdered and Robbed

ROCHESTER, IND., March 14. Michael Overmyer, for many years a well to do farmer of Richland township, was robbed and murdered in this city. Overmyer was married only three weeks ago and just completed arrangements to go to Huntington to live. He came to Rochester in the morning accompanied by his bride. The latter went to the home of a friend on the outskirts of the town, where her husband was to have joined her in the evening. The report of a pistol was heard near the cemetery. On investigation the body of Overmyer was found lying in the middle of the road with a gaping wound in his breast. Near the body was Overmyer's pistol. A pocketbook containing $300 which he had carried was gone. Evidence elicited at the inquest showed conclusively that the motive for the crime was robbery.
Goiod Evening,

I don't have my records with me this evening so can not be more accurate this evening.

One of our Frain family line stories ( Descendants of Catherine (Frain) Warner, Jessie, John, Eva, Barbara etc. out of La Grange Co., Ind. from Somerset Co., Pa. is that there is Indian in our family line somewhere that we are not able to find. It is possable that the Indian comes after these families moved to Indian. If so, it would be from different lines and there is a possability that it is Potowatomi from the Howe area of La Grange Co., Ind. I have not personally been able to do the research needed for this. I do know that Howe, Indiana was close to what was at one time the center of the Potowatomi nation. However, it seems to me that there were also Potowatomies in south central Pa. If I am wrong, please correct me.

I am not able to send e-mail at this time as there is something wrong with the server but am able to receive. It's been this way for some time.

Beth

Beth

Margaret Overmyer Rieman

I am trying to solve the question of Margaret Overmyer Rieman's parents. Margaret Overmyer was born 1 Jun 1807 in Pennsylvania and married Daniel Rieman on July 5, 1827 in Pickaway County, OH. She died 15 Aug 1880 in Madison Township, Fairfield County, OH (73Y, 2M, 15D). Most sources I have seen say that she is the daughter of John Overmyer. However, I have a certified copy of her death record from the Probate Court of Fairfield County, Ohio which says that her father's name was Jacob. There is a column for the mother's name, but none is listed.

Does anyone on this message board have any information that would list the source of the belief that John Overmyer is Margaret's father, rather than his brother Jacob? If so, please let me know the source so that I can look it up. Also, I have seen the correspondence about an Overmyer book. Does anyone know if this book is still available, and if so where?

Roberta, do you know if there were several marriages between Overmyers and Wunders? My husband's grandfather-Harry Ralph Overmire(b. Feb.1904, Tama Co., Iowa) married Alice Rose Wunder on March 12, 1927. Harry descends from James Franklin Overmire, son of Levi W. Speaking of which, does anyone have a date/location of death for James Franklin Overmire? He was born February 1876 in Tama Co., Iowa. I'd love to be able to put these puzzle pieces together! I know there are several spellings of the name, but it certainly seems they are almost all connected! -Elise Adams Overmire, in MN.

I'm seeking the parents of Caroline. She was born 25 Oct 1832 in Circleville, Pickaway Co., OH and married John Milton Tucker in 1858. She died 12 Jan 1892 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Fayetteville, Washington Co., AR with John and others. In 1850 Pickaway Co., OH Caroline appears on page 204 alone at age 18 but on the same page as John Overmeyer age 28 and Rachel age 40. There is a Joseph on page 180 near the same age. I find no Overmyer's in that county in 1840 but there is a Jacob Overmyer in 1830 age 20-30 yrs. I cannot locate a death certificate for Caroline Tucker in AR, IL or MO. Does anyone know her as a daughter or sibling?

I have just read your message which is dated July of this year, which says that you have the Emigrant book of the Overmyer family. Is the book obtainable at this time? I am descended from John Peter Overmyer through the branch of the family settled in New Reading, Perry County, Ohio. My great grandmother was Sarah Eva Overmyer Wiseman Spohn, born January 8, 1926, married to John Wiseman, widowed and married to Solomon Spohn. We have questions about the gravestone in the New Reading Cemetery, which appears to have an error about her age. The stone is a beautiful tree stump about 5 feet tall. Very unusual. I hope you can help. Thanks. Helen Meeting

This is the first I've seen of the Overmyer forum. My tree also goes back to the Overmyers (my grandmother was Mary Genevieve Overmyer form New Reading, (originally called Overmyertown), Perry County, Ohio. Her father was Robert Overmyer. If you can give me more info regarding location and dates, maybe I can help you.
