Hello,
I am related to Jessie Doris Oversby through her mother, Jessie Hooper and her grandmother, Charlotte Doidge. Charlotte was my great-grandfather's eldest sister. He left for the states in the 1860s. His wife and children followed, with my grandfather being born in Ohio. I can provide some Doidge information, if you are interested.

Glad to know you are out there.
Hello there!

I am currently looking into a group of Oversby's based in and around Bolton c1825-30 onwards. Quite a difficult trail in parts due to dialect and phonetic/illiteracy problem. The pre-cursor to the whole family were George & Elizabeth Oversby from Tewittfield, Lancashire/Cumbria.

Hope this might help!

Stephen

I received a return to sender of Linda Oversby, Cedarpines, CA. A problem in a marriage documentation is the reason of contacting her, as she has submitted to the Ancestral file on William Augustus McDonald. However, extending to the next generation, William's father is Milton. His father's marriage to Tracy or Stacy Lucy Jane Yates, I have been unable to verify. I would like to contact this person if possible.

OVERSBY FAMILY TREE

I have just started to trace my family tree as a surprise for my dad who is Gordon Oversby, son of Mathew Haygarth Oversby (living in Liverpool, England). He was orphaned by the time he was 3 and has no knowledge of any of his relatives or their life histories. I have traced us back from Mathew to Richard, son of Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas, son of Oliver and so on back to John (died 1730). I would appreciate any information from anyone who has traced this branch. Any stories which would put flesh on the bones of my ancestors would be greatly received. I wouldn't be able to trade much, as I've said, my dad has no stories to tell me. I'd like to be able to give him some.

aoversby@ntlworld.com

Andrew Mathew Oversby

Angela, thanks for getting back to me. I don't remember if they are part of my missing Lancashire Oversbys or not. Probably not, as the majority of the ones I am looking for were born in the 1700s to early 1900s. However, I will take whatever information anyone has as it can lead to other clues. Plus, any Oversby is supposedly related to me anyway. :) My grandmother (maternal) was an Oversby.

Susan

I have an extensive family tree drawn up on the OVERSBYs worldwide (thanks to all of the wonderful people who have helped me), but I have a great many "orphan" families that I cannot place--most of them come from Lancashire, England. Is there anyone who is familiar with this branch of the family and who would be able to help me? I am willing to share the information I already have.

Thanks..

Susan

Hi Cousin!

As it turns out, all Oversbys from wherever apparently are all kin. We are here in the States, in South Africa, Australia and England. I come from the PA branch as you already read. My grandmother, Annie Elizabeth Oversby Baney, was indeed short, dark haired and deep blue eyes. I was born blonde but now am brunette, fair skinned and blue eyed, but tall (must be the German Lithuanian side of me!) All of my sibs have the same blue blue eyes as do all of my cousins on that side too.
With the help of people from all over the world, I have put together a really large Oversby family tree. I can send you the gedcom that I have thus far if you wish. It is not finished yet as I keep getting more and more information as time goes on.

Susan

Hi Amanda,
Nice to "meet" another distant "long distance" Oversby cousin! From what I have learned from various other Oversby kin in England, we are all related to one another. It seems we are all over the world now! As you read, if you saw the tree, my grandmother was Annie Elizabeth Oversby. She was born in Pennsylvania here in the US. Her parents were Alfred Oversby and Elizabeth Kay. They came over to the US in the 1880's. Hope to hear from you soon. I will add the information you have given me to the tree I have accumulated over the years. The tree I have is incomplete (seems the Oversby family has been very prolific over the centuries) but it is very large!

My line is also from The same people you spoke of. But I thought that George's wife (of the 1700's) had the maiden name Willian(b-1703, d-1781 in dent?). Thier fist child, John, who is my gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr grandfather married a woman name Elizabeth Mason. Is it possible you have the names confused? Would you like a copy of my tree as to compare? The Oversby name in my family has died since my great grandfather had only girls. My grandmother was born June Oversby, but married a Hendrickson. I try to keep the name alive through familial knowledge. If either of us is wrong I'd like to know. My information comes from Patircia Oversby who has studied the family for over 16 years.

Hey, that's really interesting to know. South Africa even? I would love a copy of the tree you have...what is a gedcom? Today I am going to meet a 3rd cousin that I recently found. She lives only 40 miles from me. She is the 1st cousin of my grandmother. She is in her 70's I believe. Her married name is Ellingwood, but she was born an Oversby to Norman, whose father was Stephen, whose father was John....so on and so forth for eternity! I could also give you a copy of my tree, but you may already have some of it since we are both related to George and Nancy Dodd. Are you interested in the names and short history of the Washington Oversby's and their decendants? If you have an email or address you wouldn't mind giving me, that would be helpful.
Thankyou for your time,
-Jessica Hendrickson

Marlene,

Hi, cousin! Did you know my mother, Janet, and her two sisters, Jean and Louise? Their parents were Annie Oversby and Robert Baney. Annie was also the daughter of Alfred and Elizabeth Oversby. You are right about your mother-in-law having a sister named Marvel. I remember my mother talking about her a little when I was younger. I remember Uncle Tom most of all. I don't remember if I met any of the other children of Alfred and Elizabeth Kay.

Susan

Ian,

All of us Oversby kin are related, whether we live in the US, like I do, England, Canada, Australia, South Africa or wherever. I know I have a tiny bit of information on the Liverpool branch of the family somewhere. It was given to me by some of our distant kin in England. Let me see what I can come up with and maybe, in the meantime, one of the others will chime in, too.

Hi Susan.. I guess this is greetings from an Oversby kin in Australia. I am directly related to the oversby's from Liverpool -my Grandfather was Walter, born in Liverpool in 1911. His family came to Western Australia and settled - which is how we came to be. I did not realise that there were so many of us out there- and all related to the one family! Many of my Pa's brothers and sisters settled in the goldmining town of Kalgoorlie- where we were raised as children. Mining was the downfall of many of his brothers - falling victim to dust in the lungs from the mine. My father was also a goldminer - until 1972 when we moved to Perth.
Jennifer (From Western Australia.)

I think your grandfmother and my grandfather must have been brother and sister . My grandfather's name is Walter (Born in Liverpool in 1911) He had a sister named Margaret - also born in Liverpool.
Regards,
Jennifer Oversby

Hi,

My husband's family traces descent from John and Elizabeth Oversby in Dent, although his line left Yorkshire in the early 1700s in the shape of Oliver Oversby, son of George Oversby and Margaret Mason.

He settled in Yarrow, in Selkirkshire in Scotland, where a house in the village is still called Oversby Cottage.

If anyone would like details of this line, let me know.

Pam

Hi, Jessica,

Whoops! The mistake was in the date not the names. Oliver Oversby left Dent in the early 1800s, not 1700s. His parents were George Oversby and Margaret Mason; George was the son of another George Oversby and Jennet Mason, and then we come to George Oversby and Margaret Willan. Thanks for putting me straight. I'd be happy to see your tree, and will send you the tree of the branch I'm connected to if you like.

I too am related to the Oversby family, from Durham and Bishop Aukland. My great-great grndfather Stephen Oversby immigrated to the U.S. where his family was very successful during the depression. His 3rd son, my great grandfather Mathew was a miner, a logger, a rancher and a store owner all at once and quickly became very wealthy. He lived in Rpublic, Washington a small town near the Canadian border. He owned the Deer Lodges, a gas station/convenience store/hunting cabins. The present Oversby family in Washington State consists of June Oversby's (Mathew's Oldest daughter) 5 children, their multidudes of children (aprox.24) and a handful of first cousins who still carry the Oversby name. These decsendents I have spoken of all carry the name Hendrickson, but are the children and grandchildren of June Oversby.

I have been told that the physical traits of Oversby women are that they are typically very short, have dark hair and fair skin and piercing blue eyes. me, my mother and my grandmother fit this description to a T. Is this true for the rest of you Oversby's out there? I am almost 19 years old and am a senior in High School. I am doing a geneology for my senior project and am very excited with my results thus far.
If you are interested in contacting me, my e-mail is pandorasbox_21@devil.com

I look forward to hearing from you.
