Not sure if it's pertinent to your query but I have in my files a William W. Creek married to Fanny Overton. They married in Posey County, IN 29 Oct 1837. It's online at the IN State Library online - Indiana Marriages through 1850. Have quite a bit on the Overton's. Joshua's line. Not much on Creek except they married into the Overtons.

L. Livers

In 1860, Rachel Long is living in the home of Wm R Overton. She is 83, widowed and a midwife. Her first husband was John Brown, and her second husband was William Long. She was the daughter of John Phillips, a rev. war veteran who died in Christian Co in 1833.

In 1870, she is living in the home of Alexander Brasher, her son-in-law.

Is there a relationship between the Overtons and the Phillips?

Minnie Killion Overton was my Great Aunt, she was living in Portland Oregon, she had a son named Daryl.
My grandfather was Earl Killion and there were a couple brothers and another sister. Minnie has a daughter in Cherry Hill New Jersey-Minnie Catherine Another sister lived in San Francisco area. All were from Indiana/Iowa but were the second family of their father- who moved to Indiana from Kentucky with one son and a new wife I believe. I was told the Killian truck lines down south were from the first family of Minnie's dad. I moved from Iowa in 1957, to California as a child. My Aunt Betty Killion Evans is Minnie's niece, & still alive as of this date, and living in Riverside Ca.

William Roy Overton b Lincoln 1907

Hi everyone
I started my search for William Roy Overton (my Grandad)about 4-5 years ago in the vain hope of solving the mystery of his disappearance in the mid 1930s. He was never talked about and my mum was only ever told her fathers name and nothing more - it was strictly taboo. Here is the story, just in case there is anyone out there who can help to point me in the right direction (my head is hurting from banging it on so many walls!!)

William Roy Overton was born in Lincoln 1907, his parents were William (b1884) and Mary Frances (? birth), his Grandparents were Edward Overton (b1846 in Lincs) and Susan Picksley (b 1845). William Roy married my Grandma (Doris Lindly) in Rotherham, South Yorkshire 1927 and had 3 daughters before 1935. They all went to live in Deal, Kent, unfortunately I don't know the reason why or when this was. It was here that he 'disappeared' and was never seen, heard or spoken of again.

I cannot find any records of his death or any emigration facts. My mum died in 2001 and I would dearly love to find out what happened to him.
If anyone could suggest any further routes of investigation I would greatly appreciate any help. Thank you for reading. Best wishes

I'd like to ask all male Overtons whose families originated in New York to please consider joining the Overton DNA Project and taking a DNA test.

Currently, there are only 2 Overton participants who trace their family origins to Isaac Overton of Southold, Long Island, NY (my father is one), but their DNA test results don't match, meaning they're not related.

To validate one of the test results, other male Overton participants are needed who are descended from one of the sons of Isaac Overton, b. 1683 in Southold, m. Abigail Moore, (sons: John, Nathaniel, Isaac, David, James, Elton).

It's easy, you would be doing a service to all Overtons, and learning more about your own family, too. The web address for the Overton DNA Project is:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jpcfamily/...

There is also a link at www.familytreedna.com

Thanks.
Great I think I am getting somewhere on my husband's Overton family history . The only decendants I have on Shafter (son of Jobe Overton) would be Shafter's son Dallas E. Overton Sr. and Shafter's grandchildren and great grandchildren. Tho Dallas Sr is the only child of Shafter that we know of. Dallas did have 2 sisters but not sure if they were dau. of Shafter ,since Dallas Sr.'s mother was married twice. We do not have any proof that the 2 sisters were Shafter's daughters. I would love to have a copy of the infor you have on Jobe and his brother Oscar Overton. Jobe is also listed as Joe B. on some census. My email is tenlou95@aol.com
Thank You
Tenna Overton

I could only find Edward in 1900 and 1910 in Pa, but I did find that he passed away in 1927. He's buried in Meadville, Pa. He lived in Elizabeth City, NC in 1890 because my grandfather was born there in August of 1890. Edward was a Minister. I don't know who his parents were or if he had siblings and who they were. I had better luck tracing Edward's wife. That is about all I know at this time. How are you related to the Overtons? I hope my info can help you out.

You are so right. My Grandmother's family is from Louisa County Virginia. If you are interested there is a website for Tennessee called Travelers Rest. Free black men and slaves were there along with whites. After slaves were freed blacks used to go back there. I remember my mother saying that wrote to my grandmothers brothers in a place in Tennessee. That could have been the place. http://www.travellersrestplantation.org/ I am still working on my tree for the moment.

If you are interested there is a website for Tennessee called Travelers Rest. Free black men and slaves were there along with whites. I am still working on my tree for the moment. I thought the name was rare too, but are many Overtons out there. Check Louisa County Historical Society also.
James, do you have any uncles that you know about or information, such as birth and place of birth for your father.

It is possible you are part of Clan 3, which is the Clan I am from, or Clan 1 as identified in the Overton DNA project. These seem the most likely Clans. The only way to be sure is by taking a DNA test to see which Clan you fit into. Currently until June 24th, familytreedna has a special going on that is a great deal that you may want to take advantage of.

If you would like, you can contact me directly and I will see what I can find in our databases about your ancestors.

My direct email is steve@overtonmedia.com.

Steve Overton

Louisa Summers Overton

I am looking for information on a Louisa SUMMERS Overton(daughter of Johnson and Nancy[Boggess] Summers). She married a James M. Overton in Tazewell County Illinois in 1846, but after the 1850 Mason Illinois census, disappears. SO, we are trying to find out her death date, where she is buried, who her children were and so forth. We think she had at least 3 children-James Overton c. 1848, or 1849-who we believe died earlyand a few years later names another son James, Martha Jane around 1851, and possibly a William(may be adopted-b.1850) In Mason county, I haven't found her on a cemetery record. Does anyone have any info on her?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Becky
