I am looking for information on my ggg grandparents Wiley Owen and Elizabeth Ann Brown Owen. Wiley consistently reported his birth date and birth place as 1824 and Georgia. Elizabeth consistently reported being born in 1825 in South Carolina. They lived in Forsyth, Georgia from until about 1860, then moved to Marshall County, Alabama. They were both on census records through 1900. They had at least seven children; William, David, Wiley "Parks", Henry, Samuel, John A., and James. The first six were born in Georgia, and James was born in Alabama. Does anyone have any information on Wiley and his family? I am especially interested in finding out the names of his parents and siblings.

Wife and children are from my uncle's records - reportedly from family bible. Might this be a different William Owen?

James Buchanan Owen

According to his 1917 marriage certificate, James Owen(s) was born in Horse Cave, Hart, Kentucky around 1890-91. He stated that his parents were W.C. Owens and Eliza J. Amyx.

Does anyone have any information on these two?

There is a William P. Owens with a wife Eliza J., who lived in Kentucky and MO, but somewhere I saw that her maiden name was Baker.

In the 1920 and 1930 censuses he went by Owen and said he was born in Ohio and Virginia respectively, so the statement that he was born in KY may be wrong as well.

Does anyone know what happened to James B. after he separated from his wife in NJ in 1932?

Ezekiel P. Owen

I recently found these obituaries for my g g grandfather. I'm posting here for others who may be researching this family.

In Memory of E. P. Owen

Mr. Ezekiel P. Owen was born October 10th, 1846, and died December 3rd, 1908. He enlisted in the Confederate army in February, 1864, in Company 13th Georgia regiment.
He made a gallant soldier, ever ready to respond to the call of duty. He was sounded in the face, the mark of which he bore until his death; the ball remained in his head for several years until it fell into his mouth.
His greatest ambition was in the up building of his community. He labored hard for the education of his and his neighbor's children. He served as trustee of the Alps school for twenty-five years. Tuesday night before he died and Thursday morning he requested the writer to call the patrons of the school together and elect a board of trustees. We answered him that we would meet the next day and elect them, and would re-elect him and he replied "All right, but I will not be trustee longer than Friday".
In early life he joined the Methodist church at New Hope and was a consistent member until his death. He loved God's people and was ever ready to support his church.
On December 12, 1867, he was married to Miss Julia Anne Duke and settled on a part of this father's (William Owen, old home, where he lived happily until a Higher Power bid him come above. To them were born eight children, all of whom, together with his devoted wife, survive him. The children are L. O. Owen, of Monticello, Ga.; W. J. Owen, of Port Falls, Idaho; Mrs. Camilla Reid, of River View, Alabama; Chas. D. Owen, of Arapaho, Oklahoma; J. P. Owen, of Neal, Georgia; Mrs. Popie Estes, of Alvaton, Georgia; Miss Katie Owen, of River View, Alabama, and Jno. R. Owen, of Alps, Ga. Besides these he leaves three brothers, Mr. Richard Owen, of Alps, Ga.; Mr. Rufus Owen, of Gay, Ga.; Mr. Bob Owen, of Oklahoma, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his death. On the night of October 7th last he was bitten by a dog that was lying out his porch and died from the bite. Not knowing that the dog had rabies, he didn't think it was necessary to go to the Pasteur Institute for treatment.
On Thursday, just one week before he died, he complained of a pain in his neck, and called in a physician. On Saturday he was better and went to Oakland, Alvaton, and Alps, to settle some small accounts, believing that his time was short. On Sunday night he was taken violently ill and called in two physicians. He gradually grew worse until the end came Thursday morning at 8:30 o'clock.
The funeral services were conducted at the family residence Friday morning at the o'clock by Dr. S. B. Cousins and the remains were laid to rest in the family burying ground near the home of his birth.

Death of Mr. E. P. Owen

The death of Mr. E. P. Owen at Oakland last week removed from the stage of earthly action one of the county's best citizens.
His death was peculiarly sad. e was bitten by a mad dog and died from the effects of hydrophobia.
Mr. Owen was a brave solider of the "Lost Cause". He followed the flag of Robert E. Lee and bore on his face the imprint of a Yankee bullet.
He was a good citizen and by his death Meriwether county has sustained a great loss. Mr. Owen was a member of the Methodist church and a firm believer in the truths of religion.
The brave old soldier has answered the roll call on high and joined his comrades on the eternal camping ground in the celestial city.

Card of Thanks

We wish to express our appreciation to our dear neighbors and friends who were so kind and good to us through the illness and death of our dear husband and father. May God's richest blessings ever be with our dear family physician, Dr. J. C. Mathews, who did so much for our dear father and husband in his last agonies, are the prayers of his wife and children.
Mrs. Julia A. Owen and children

Hello,
Wallace Whaley Owen was my father's brother. His son John Wallace Owen was married to Barbara Manning. They had three children Bruce M., Marcia and Patrice. Bruce M. lives in McLean, VA and is interested in the family geneology. The two daughters I have no knowledge of. I have info going back from my fathers generation for three generations. Best, Charles Owen

Thanks for your reply. So far, everything I can find on the Eleazer who was in Brown County in the 1820 census, leads me to think he is not related to William and Amasa Owen from the Pittsburgh area. What were their birthdates? My Eleazer was born in 1755 and his brother Joseph was born in 1750.

Wm. Owen(s) and Amos Owen(s) are listed together in Washington Township, Westmoreland County in the 1790 census. I am mainly trying to focus on them.

I know Amasa (Amos) left PA, eventually ending up in Ohio. I do not know what happened to William. The name is far too common and there were multiple "sightings" of him in that general area. If you happen to come across them during your search I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks again. Lili

I, and several others have been trying to trace Eleazor and Joseph 0wens both living in brown county, Ohio in 1850. We are also trying to identify the parents of Mary Cain Owen, b pa around 1814 and lived in Brown county, Ohio. I believe her father was Eleazor but can't prove it. Joseph may have been her uncle as she was living next door to him at one point. If you want to share info. Let me know.
Joan

Amasa Owen (s) in Western Pennsylvania and Southern Ohio

I am trying to make connections between Owen family members living in the Westmoreland/Allegheny county area between 1790 and 1810 or so, some of whom migrated to the Clermont County OH area.

Amasa Owen is a known descendant of John Owen of Connecticut. He was born in Connecticut in 1753 and died in Clermont County OH in 1817. The family moved to OH from western Pennsylvania. There is an "Amos" Owens listed in the 1790 census for Washington Township, Westmoreland County PA. I believe this is him. Living next door to him is Wm. Owens - likely a relative. I know that Amasa had a brother named William but I am not certain this is him. He may have died in New York.

In 1790 William Owen was granted the right of preemption to an island in the Allegheny river about six miles below the mouth of Kiskiminetas river which became known as Owen's Island (Now called Jacks Island). It is in what was then Washington Township, Westmoreland County but now is in Harrison township (originally Pitt), Allegheny County. It is from this island that the Amasa Owen family relocated to Ohio.

Now to the confusing part. There were also men named William Owen (various spellings) in Huntington Township, Westmoreland County in 1783 and 1785 and in Rostraver Township in 1789. I have no idea if these are the same or different people.

In 1819 in Clermont County Ohio, one William Owen was granted a pension for Revolutionary War service. If the age of 93 listed on his pension application is correct, this could not be Amasa's brother, but again, perhaps a relative?

Right next door in Clark Township, Brown County Ohio is one Eleazer Owen, age >45. Amasa also had a brother named Eleazer but he apparently also died in New York.

I have tried tracking these people through census and tax lists, and have tried reading through the John Owen lineage from the NEHGR but the longer I look the more confused I get. I hope there is someone on here that is well versed in the genealogy of the John Owen of Connecticut family and might be able to help me sort this out.

Thanks for any assistance you can give.

John Wesley Owen, b. abt. 1824

I'm doing some digging re: John Wesley Owen, b. abt. 1824, birth state listed as either NJ or PA. He married Charlotte Chase, b. abt. 1823 in CT, and with children Artimecia and Emeroy (Emery?) moved thru Ohio to Liberty, Jefferson County, Iowa. Census records show them in Ohio in 1850 and Iowa in 1856 (I'm pretty sure there aren't 2 Owen families with those children names and only those names!). His second son, also John Wesley, was born in Iowa and is buried in Brighton, Iowa. John the second and his wife, Justine McClelland, are my great grandparents.

I can find a number of family trees that all dead end with John and Charlotte. My mother did a lot of research in the 1970s and 1980s, and the family story is that the Owens arrived in the US as Gudakunst and had their name changed, but I'm not sure if it was the elder John or his ancestors who were the original immigrants. There's no trace of the Chase family back beyond Charlotte.

The elder John Wesley's birth state is listed as both NJ and PA on census records, which makes me think that the original immigrants were 'up' the line. Again, Charlotte's is CT. She apparently died in 1884, and 1880 census records list her as widowed. I can find grave records in Jefferson County for both John W and Charlotte. John's death is listed as 1879.

Any info appreciated for either John or Charlotte, even old family stories!
