In the 1870 Federal Kentucky census (Richmond, Madison) Robert Owens was living with a white family surname of Phelps along with his married daughter, other children and his son in law. Some of the children listed are Ned and Martha Owens whom I think are twins. Later on he married Tempest and had three more children, Dicye (Disy), Emma and John. I would like to know about these people, hopefully someone reading this will find this familiar to them. He is my great great great great grandfather.

Hi

I am new to the board. I don’t know if any of you can give me a hand. I am having an awful time finding any leads on the Owens side of my family. Everybody here mentioned was born in DC.

My paternal grandparents were William Lawrence Owens (1898 – 1982), & Edith May Farr (1901-1982).

My great grandparents were Samuel Marshall Owens (1869 – after 1903) & Mary Elizabeth Hutchison (varied spellings) (1879 – after 1910). Their children were William Lawrence, Nellie (Devers), Elizabeth (Herrity) & George Louis.

My great great grandparents were George W. Owens (c. 1840 - ?) & Kate A (c. 1850 - ?). The census says that both of their parents were born in DC.
Their children were Samuel Marshall, Nellie T, George R, & Emma V.

Sound familiar to anyone or any recommendations on resources?

Thank you for your help.

Victoria Owens
I am researching into my wife's falmiy history, her maiden name was Owens, her father was called David Thomas, his father was called William Caharles Owens and they came form Mountain Ash. I have managed to trace the line and go back to a George Owens b: abt 1791 Selbech? Pembrokeshire who married Jane also b: abt 1791. They had three children,Jane 1826 / Benjamin Morris b: abt 1827 / William b: abt 1827 all born in Narbreth? Pembrokeshire.

Can anyone expand on this line and if possible go back even further. You can also contact me as below.

Michael Stewart Coad
work: mike.coad@ciospct.cornwall.nhs.uk
home: michael.coad@btinternet.com
The only info I have is that Jeremiah married Catherine Hetherington and they possibly lived in Staffordshire.I beleive he was a school master. Their son John Charles Owens who was my great grandfather was born on 16 March 1872. John Charles left the UK to live in South Africa where he married Johanna Susannah Stoffberg. They had four children, Thelma Edith Ada, Edward,Kate Heatherington and Donald Rosslyn. He died in Durban, South Africa on 9 Sept 1943.
