Henry,

Thank you for your response. While I cannot confirm that this is the same Jenny, I can't help but think it is. My mother once met Jenny when she also was very young. Jenny was actually my great grandmother which would make my grandmother, Lucy, and you first cousins. Do you recall that name or did you ever meet her?

Family of Donovan Griffin Leslie and Merle Oyler, late 19th and 20th cent

Seeking information on the children of Donovan Griffin LESLIE (1904-1976) and Merle A. OYLER (1905-1995). Donovan Griffin Leslie is a 3 X great grandson of Alexander NEGLEY (1734-1809) of Pittsburgh and would have been my 4th cousin. I am seeking information on the following individuals as part of a large project to identify the descendants of Alexander Negley.

Both Donovan and Merle were born in Colorado (with Donovan's birth place being Mesa Co., CO). I don't know when they were married (prob. In the early 1920s since their first child, Donovan Earl Leslie, was born on April 11, 1924 in CO. A register report with sources follows at the end of this query.

The five children of Donovan and Merle are whom I need information on:

The first child is Donovan Earl, born in CO in 1924 and died in Covington, Los Angeles Co., Calif. In 1986. He married someone by the name of Pat PARKER, and they had at least one child, Shari Ann Leslie (b. Oct 8 1947 according to the LESLIE—NEGLEY Family history. When and where was Pat Parker born and who were her parents?

Concerning Shari Ann, I was able to find two children in the California Birth Index born to Leslie and Parker couples, but their birth dates are much more recent (Kathy Ann Leslie, b. April 4, 1967 in Los Angeles; and Lynette Shaney Leslie, b. Oct 10 1978 in Alemada Co., Calif.) They could belong to this couple, but . . . ... Where was Shari Ann born? Did she marry and have a family?

The second child is Eleanor Irene Leslie. She is listed in the 1930 census with a probable birth year of 1928 in Colorado. She married someone by the name of Stanley M. BRADBURY (1922-1993) and the had a female child in July, 1948 according to the LESLIE-NEGLEY family history, but we have no name or place. Where was the child of Eleanor and Stanley born? (Finding no Bradbury/Leslie couples in the California Birth index, I assume she was NOT born in Calif.) What is her name? Did she marry and have a family? Did Eleanor and Stanley have any additional children?

The third child, Donna Merle, is listed in the LESLIE-NEGLEY family history as being born on April 6, 1929, BUT she is not listed in the 1930 census and I think her birth year is later. She was reported to have married someone by the name of J. P. TIREY. Based on the 1930 census results for Grand Junction, CO, it seems more likely that the name is actual Paul J. Tirey, Jr., the son of Pleasant J./Paul J. Tirey and Adabelle ??. Donna and J.P./P.J. had a child, Cathy Leann Tirey in December, 1946 (place unknown).

What is Donna Merle's actual birth date and place?

What did/does J.P./P.J. do for a living? Where was Cathy Leann Tirey born? Did she ever marry and have a family? Did Dona and P.J. have any other children?

And then it get worse. The fourth child is Frances Jean Leslie, b. May 20 1934, place unknown, Where was she born? Did she ever marry and have a family? What did/does she do for a living?

The fifth child is Sall Leann Leslie, b. Mar 26, 1940, place unknown. Again, where was she born? Did she ever marry and have a family? What did/does she do for a living?

Willing to share information.

Bill Muller
muller1938@yahoo.com
3 X great grandson of Alexander Negley

Descendants of Donovan Griffin Leslie

Generation No. 1

1. Donovan Griffin7 Leslie (Frank Griffin6, Joseph Newton5, George4, William3, William2, George1)1,2,3,4 was born May 05, 1904 in Glade Park, Mesa, CO5, and died Jul 1976 in Grand Junction, Mesa Co., CO6. He married Merle A. Oyler7,8,9, daughter of Floyd Oyler and Lizzie ??. She was born May 08, 1905 in CO10, and died May 08, 1995 in Palisade, Mesa Co., CO10.

More About Donovan Griffin Leslie:
Occupation: 1930, Dairy stock raiser
Social Security Number: 522-38-9416

More About Merle A. Oyler:
Social Security Number: 511-34-2688

Marriage Notes for Donovan Leslie and Merle Oyler:
Only Donovan Earl and Eleanor Irene are listed with their parents in the 1930 census for Fruita, Mesa Co., CO which suggests that the birth year for Donna Merle should probably be after 1930 (or at least after the 1930 census).

Children of Donovan Leslie and Merle Oyler are:
+	2	i.
Huddleston-Thomas-Kirby-Clements Cemetery in Bedford County, VA

Hello,

We are looking for descendants of Henry Huddleston 1775-1845 who married Martha “Patty” Lloyd. They were my 3rd great grandparents. The family cemetery where he is buried along with several other Huddlestons, Thomas’, Kirby’s, and Clements’ is in Bedford County, VA and was, up until recently, in an active cow pasture. The cows have broken many of the headstones that were not surrounded by a fence and trampled them into the mud. Over the past two years a small but dedicated group of Huddleston and Thomas descendants have traveled from various parts of the USA to Bedford County, VA and worked to remove unwanted invasive species of trees and shrubs and fought hard to get the owner of the surrounding property to fence his cattle out of the cemetery. Henry's Huddleston’s tombstone had been broken off near the bottom and knocked down. We excavated it and moved it inside a small fenced area so the cows could not damage it further.

We have been successful in getting the owner of the cattle and surrounding property to remove the cows from the cemetery area and put up a temporary electric fence to keep them from returning. However, this cemetery is in pitiful condition and we desperately need to put up a secure fence to protect our ancestor’s graves from any further damage. We also need to exterminate a colony of ground hogs that has burrowed into the Thomas area of the cemetery. One of the main problems we ran into when we first undertook this cemetery restoration project is that the cemetery was “excluded” for the sale of the original Huddleston family farm in 1949 and was meant to remain in the care of surviving family members forever. However, the cemetery was never properly surveyed and recorded at the Bedford County Courthouse with its own deed and plat etc. Additionally, the rightful Huddleston owners and heirs did not know that they had inherited the cemetery. Due to shoddy land surveying practices employed in the area the cemetery never received the proper legal protection required by Virginia State Law as the old Huddleston farm was further subdivided and sold off bit by bit.

Fortunately, another descendant who is a Virginia Licensed Land Surveyor and Professional Engineer has conducted the deed research and surveyed the cemetery so that we can ensure that the site is properly protected from now on. Currently, the boundary survey and plat for the cemetery are complete and ready to file. The Articles of Organization for the Huddleston-Thomas Cemetery, LLC have been prepared and put in the mail to the State Corporation Commission. The Quit-Claim Deed is prepared and will be mailed to the heirs next week (the elderly heirs have agreed to sign the cemetery over to a group of younger descendants). A draft Operating Agreement is being prepared (95% complete). This is the real business end of the LLC and will deal with members, meetings, accounting, etc.

So you see all the hard research and legal work has been taken care of and now we are turning our focus toward the physical protection (fencing) and restoration of the cemetery. We are looking for other descendants who might be willing to contribute to the cost of a fence and/or other cemetery restoration needs. We will be getting estimates soon from a fence contractor who also happens to be a descendant and from area stone masons for help in resetting toppled headstones and repairing/replacement of broken headstones.

According to Bedford County Museum Cemetery Survey the others buried there are:
Frank J. Huddleston Jan 20, 1868- Feb 9, 1916
Florrie M. Huddleston Feb 8, 1899-June 15, 1900
Donald Berkley Huddleston Sept 13, 1909-Nov 24, 1935
Fannie E. Huddleston Sep 4, 1872- Apr 3, 1940
Henry S. Huddleston Nov 1, 1834 - Mar 8, 1922
Mary E. Huddleston Aug 18, 1842-June 20, 1907
Fountain P. Kirby Oct 8, 1823-Mar 25, 1893
Geils Donald Thomas 1873-1945
Louise Elizabeth Yancy 1866-1942
William P. Thomas Nov 3, 1927- Apr 22, 1918 (CSA Civil War Veteran)
Sarah C. Thomas Dec 31, 1833-Mar 31, 1888
John P. Thomas May 13, 1864-Sep 22, 1965
Sarah A. Thomas died Jul 4, 1856 (age 24)

Also, on Thanksgiving Day 2008 we unearthed the headstones of Martha “Patty” Lloyd b. 1778 wife of Henry Huddleston (b. 1775, d. 1845). Her headstone is badly broken and is likely beyond repair. We also unearthed the headstones of Richard Huddleston and his wife Elizabeth (Oyler) Huddleston. They are my 2nd great grandparents. Photographs of the cemetery and the various headstones are available for those interested in joining the cemetery protection/restoration project team.

If you can help in any way, please feel free to contact me at retandkt@earthlink.net or Maryanna Weeks at amweeks@adelphia.net .
Amanda Oyler/Oiler married to James Chandler

I am looking for the descendants of a Amanda Oyler/Oiler who was married to a James Chandler. They lived in Illinois and Oklahoma from what census I have found. They had a daughter named Amy Florence Chandler who married a Edward Aaron Brown in Oklahoma. I descend from a son of Amy Florence and Edward Aaron. Would love to find anyone who may have information on this family. I was told that Amy might have died in 1914-Oklahoma but I don't know for sure. In 1880 per a Illinois census, the Chandler family lived next door to a A.J. Oyler. I don't know if this could be part of Amanda's family. On the 1890 and 1907 Oklahoma Territioral Census, the Chandlers were living in the Oklahoma Territory. The last census I found Amanda on was a 1920 census living with another daughter of hers named Etta (married name Johnston). If any of these names are familiar to anyone, I would love to hear from you. You can e-mail me at okie_angel21@hotmail.com with the subject line the same as this message.
Thank you,
Kay Hinkle
OKC

Hello, thought I'd ring in. I think we may have been in touch about the Oyler line, maybe not. I just wanted to say that I think I have a picture of that house on John Street with some of the Oylers out front. Don't know which one's though. There not labeled and my grandmother didn't label them all before she died. Maybe you'd like to see? I can put it up on my Ancestry tree if so. I was thinking of doing that anyway.

Matthew.

Dear Matthew,
The original immigrant Conrad b. @1690 had a son named Jacob. The information that I have does not list him marring a Fifer. The ages match up but the locations are different. These Oyler’s started in MD., and then went north and west in PA. I think they eventually went to Ohio but I don’t have any proof. You could try Morgan Iler. He has by far the most information on this family. His E-mail address is MBIler@juno .com. Morgan is ready and willing to help anyone but he is getting up in years and has apparently has not been too well of late so he sometimes takes a little longer to get back to you. I am sorry I can’t help more.
Sincerely,
Phyllis Oyler
Dear Ann,
I have a feeling that this particular family(and it's just a feeling) from what I have read left Germany and settled in England for a while, then came here from there. They originally settled in MD. and later found themselves in disputes over land sold by John Diggs [who sold the same land to more than one person] I think that after Hiram's death his family, with the exception of James Buchanan, my husbands direct decendent, went west into Ohio. I have never been able to prove anything on them. My family says Hiram's wife died young leaving the children without any parents. James B. is listed on the 1870 census as a laborer at the age of 11. There are many family stories, few of which I believe. Anyone who would know for sure is gone. Please feel free to contact me at any time.
Sincerely,
Phyllis Oyler

Dear Ann,
If you are intrested now you will become more obsessed as time goes on. Each new piece of information that leads you to one person makes you wander about the rest of the family, and the ancestors, and the decendents Etc.,Etc. It never stops. I have spent 30 years working on this stuff and still can't find what I am looking for. If I could find out who Hiram's father was I would throw a party. Then I would want to know who his grandfather was.
I rarely check this board, if you want to get a quicker answer please E-mail me at Oyler1776@aol.com.
Sincerely,
Phyllis

Dear Sir,
I know just about nothing about the Oylers in Ohio. I would love to piece the information together with what I have but because Ellen apparently died young or remarried I can find nothing on her. Hiram died intestate at a young age leaving his family with essentally nothing. His children were to young to be much help. I have often wondered what happened to them. The christian names were common ones and it is hard to find anything with no specifics.
Sincerely,
Phyllis Oyler

Anyone working on OYLERs in Fairfield Co., OH? I have several loose ends I'd like to fix on my Bloom township website. So many of the OYLERs I have there left the township prior to 1900, and I'm trying to track them down to put in dates of death. I'd also like to merge any possible doubles I have, such as... I'm beginning to wonder if the Henry Oyler b Aug 1854 is actually David H. OYLER b abt 1855, s/o John W. and Harriet. David H. seemed to vanish after 1870 census, and Henry seemed to pop out of nowhere in 1880.

Any help appreciated.

Am seeking parents for Elisha (Elihue) B. Oyler/Oiler.

What I know so far is that he was born about 1808 in VA. He married Charlotte Howard in RockyMount, VA on April 11 1831.

He is listed in the 1850 VA Census (Greenbrier Co.) with Charlotte and the following children: George R.(15), Catherine (17), Nancy (13), Elija(12), John (10), Mylo (4), Rachel (2),and Harriet (7). All family members were born in VA.

From Greenbrier Co. it is presumed that they moved to Kanawha Co. (W)VA. At least three of Elisha's children married there.

If anyone out there has ANY clue as to who Elisha's parents might be or when/where he died, please let me know. I'm at a dead end on this line of my family.

Thank you, Faith

Hello, glad to here from you. It's nice that you had a chance to go to those places and due some real research. I posted in another message that I may be going to Maryland next year for school and hope to due some research on family while I'm in the area. Yeh, from what I seen the two Jacobs are different. I know my grandma married her husband back in Newport Kentucky and her mother was Josephs Oyler's dau Martha Jane. I've been meaning to ask my father why since my grandfather Derby wasn't from Kentucky and as far as I knew Joseph and Susanna came to Indiana directly from OH. Wonder if there is some family connection to Newport. I looked to see if it's close to Jassamine County were Joseph Oyler was born but there not by one another. Probably is nothing though. Is there any way you can send me the research that you have done so I can help when I leave HI and do some myself. It would maybe keep me from doing the same thing twice. Do you happen to have any oyler pictures? I'd love to add any pictures too. I was just curious too, and was wondering were you link up?

Hello, I'm trying to find out info on a Jacob Oyler married to Elizabeth Fifer. I guess people havn't been able to find his father directly. He was born 17 May 1791 in North Carolina. He died in Bunker Hill Indiana. Would you happen to have anything to help? He ended up going from NC to KY to OH then IN. His son Jacob had a Levi born in OH.

Matthew Derby
Hello,
The Jacob Oyler you are interested in was in Lincoln Co. NC in the 1790's but trying to trace him back further than that has not been successful. My wife and I spent time
at the NC archives for a week but only got tantalizing hints of how he ties into the bigger picture.

He is not the Jacob Oyler born in PA and from the Conrad Oyler line. Many people have tried to tie that connection but records nullify that. the ages are very close but
different between the two Jacob Oylers. I have researched records in Lincoln Co. NC and the name varies depending whether jury duty records or other records.

There is a possibility that he might even tie back into the Conrad Oylers from Lancaster PA but at an earlier date. While researching these lines I have found 6 to 8 variations
on the spelling. Kentucky records offer some interesting clues.

Let me know if you get this msg. Sincerely Curt Gamble Cedaredge, CO w0alc@mindspring.com
