Hello Marvin, I think we have emailed each other before. I went to the Auzenne which was change to Ozan family reunion last year. In Opelousas last year. We learned so much about my great great grandparents Sosthene Auzenne and Celestine Donato. If you do a search on Marie Camille Auzenne or Marie Camille Donato you could find the histroy that one of our cousins did...facinating. There is a family reunion planned next year hopefully in Houston. There is a cousin who is collecting information. Here name is Angela you can find her information there.
Hope we can find more family from Opelousas.
Valerian Ozanne (1770-1833)

I descend from Valerian Ozanne (1770-1833)
who was one of the first mixed race Ozannes.
Valerian was the illegitimate son of Francois
Ozanne and Jeanne Glapion. Francois also
had chidren by Marguerite DeCuir, his wife.
Jeanne had children with two other men and
was apparently of African and Spanish origin.
She must have been quite a woman!
I have found several groups of
Ozannes and Auzennes. The Black/mixed Ozannes
often use the surname "Auzenne". There are
Ozannes and Auzennes in Australia, Louisiana, California,
Oregon, Texas, Arizona, and of course
the Channel Islands. I am a Harvard Law School
grad and my brother is a commercial pilot/
captain for US Air. I have also found
many academics and professional people within
our ranks. We are quite a family.

Our business website is at
www.ozanne.com.

Hi,
I wrote to you ac ouple of years ago about the Ozanne White Molteno family.
I was reading some of the family letters last night that my husbands Great Grandfather kept that speaks of some of the people you mention.
From reading the letters they wrote to Bertie (Herbert Molteno in Australia). This what I pieced together
Susanna was known as Aunt Annie and she died about three months before her sister Georgina Molteno on Guernsey. Annie died of a series of fits when she went to do something in one of the boarders rooms. They found her there on the floor and she died later after some more fits .
Georgina had come to live with her sister and her Niece Flo.
Poor Flo seems to have had a busy time of it running the shop and letting out rooms to boarders
There is mention of Georginas health breaking down when they were nursing Fred Ozanne so I am presuming that he died but I dont know for sure.
The families were all close, Fred and Mabel molteno visted a lot. They had a shop on the island that sold and repaired radios.
They also spoke some other cousin on the island called Heshie and Alf who were a great support to her when her mother and aunt were failing in health.
I know Georgina came back to the island because she wasn't happy long term in England. I think she bought a house of her own for awhile then desided to move in with Flo and Aunt A.
Another white sister is also mention R. White. Think she is Rosie? She seemed to spend a bit of time with a lot of different relatives in her old age and was a companion at one stage to a lady in England. She seemed have been a spinster with no mention of children of her own only all the nieces and nephews of her sisters.
Georginas youngest son Lennard who died in the trenches in WWI writes home from the War about how much he loves Guensey.
I also have somewhere some photos of Flo in later life.
If you would llike any futher information please let me know .
J.Connell
Hello Jenny,

Kim Cook mailed me to say she had heard from you, and I think she has mailed you back with my email address.

My grandmother was Elsie Molteno who was one of Frederick and Georgiana's children, who later married Arthur Lee and lived in Herefordshire.

I guess your husband is related to Bertie and Ruby Molteno who moved to Sydney sometime around 1910 I think. I met Ron about 13 years ago when he was in UK, and on his return he stayed with my sisters in Vancouver. I heard from from my sisters (via Paul M) that he sadly died last year.

I have been doing most on the family tree amongst our lot and have some photos of portraits of Georgiana, Frederick, William White etc. Also quite a few letters from Frederick, Leonard (killed WW1) etc.

Well, I must go. Please pass on my regards and the news to all the family over there. I have some details but many gaps which I hope you can fill for me.

Regards
Richard

Hi Jenny
Yes, I can help. As you probably know, Georgiana White was the daughter of Prudence Wood and William White. Prudence Wood was the sister of my gt-gt-grandmother Mary Couch Wood, which means we are related!
I've traced the ancestry of Prudence and Mary back via Plymouth to the north Devon/Cornwall borders, and have plenty of info for you.
Richard Lee, who posted his address in a previous answer, is even more closely related to you than I am. Do contact him. He'd be delighted to hear from you, and will give you my email address so that we can contact each other directly. Incidentally, I met Fred Molteno (jnr) when he travelled from Guernsey to London for the Coronation in 1953! He was quite an elderly man, and I was only a child, but I remember him very clearly. Fred married his cousin, Mabel Ozanne, but they had no children.
I look forward to hearing from you and passing on any information that might help you. Best wishes.
Kim

Re: Ozanne

My Ozanne link is through Susanna Dove White, born c 1841, who married an Ozanne (Christian name unknown). They had at least three children, Frederick, Florence and Mabel. In 1881 Susanna, who was a widow, was a draper of 16-18 Mill Street, St Peter Port. Mabel married her cousin Fred Molteno, son of Susanna's sister Georgi(a)na Pope White and her husband Frederick Molteno, a photographer. They all lived in St Peter Port, although for a short time Frederick, Georgina, Fredk jnr and Georgina's sister Rosalie White, lived in Fulham, London.

I don't know when Susanna's husband died, or whether they had more than three children, nor do I know what happened to Florence and Frederick Ozanne.

The Guernsey names linked in with this family are Ash, Hubert, Hunkin, Lee, Molteno, Penstone-Franklin, Wheadon, White, Wood.

These linked families are all descended from Thomas Soudon Wood (b1783) and his wife Martha Uglow (b1784), who came from North Devon originally, then moved to Plymouth. One of the Wood family married Henry Ash (b 1797), and their son George Wood Ash, b 1828 married Caroline Wheadon. The Hubert and Penstone-Franklin families are descended from this line.

Another Wood, Prudence, born Plymouth 1812, married William White, and three of their daughters married Ozanne, Molteno and Hunkin respectively.

I'm descended from the Wood daughter Mary Couch Wood,bc1813, who stayed in Plymouth and married Joseph Barry

If you have any information on the Ozannes of this family, or any other branches of this clan, I'd be very grateful. Likewise, if anyone would like information on the people I've mentioned, I'd be happy to share it.

Many thanks for your message, Yes, I'm still here, and still working at the family history. I'd love to see the additional info you have. Your uncle Richard lives only about 25 miles from here. We have tried to visit, but never found a convenient occasion. I have some more info on the Guernsey line, which might be useful before the Guernsey trip. I'll phone him and see if we can find a more direct way of keeping in touch.
All the best
Kim

Thanks for your quick reply Kim. I have just been on the phone to my cousin to give her the news. She recalls the time about two years ago when you made contact with my uncle which came at a time when my aunt was not so well.

I can't give you any details here, but my cousin Mary will speak to my uncle Richard (Lee) tonight, which I hope will result in more direct contact. Since you called them, their phone number has been changed and is now ex-directory for other reasons.

I'll wait to hear from my cousin and contact you again soon. I think I have your email address at AOL from other mails of yours.

Regards,
Richard
rlee.elite@dsl.pipex.com
Hello Kim. It's been two years since you posted a your Ozanne query - so I hope you're still about.

I was pleased to see your notes about the links to my great grandmother Georgiana Pope White who married Frederick John Molteno, a photographer in London and Kandy, Ceylon. I have the children as Frederick Arthur, Herbert, Percy, Leonard (who was killed in France 1916) and my grandmother, Elsie Rose Molteno who married Arthur Lee in St Peter Port in 1909 and moved to Herefordshire.

My cousin and I were talking about the Ozanne link last night because she is going to Guernsey next week with my uncle Richard John Molteno Lee (84), and was hoping to do some research. I see 'Aunty Flo' died there in 1958.

I'm sorry not to be of more help. If you are interested, I have some Molteno letters and pictures which I'll look through again, and I have a photo of a William (Pitt) White portrait while in the navy, plus his sketch of the Guernsey naval signal flag station.

Regards
Richard
