Obit for Alice Jane TINKHAM PADDOCK, The Pierson Progress, Pierson, Woodbury Co., Iowa, Thursday, Jan. 28, 1932.

Funeral Services Saturday for Early Pierson Settler:
Wife of Indian Educator And State Coach Driver Led Most Interesting Life on Western Frontier; Took Land Seekers to Oregon Country.

Born in Volga City, Clayton Co., Iowa, March 23, 1862.

Removed to Logan, Kansas, in 1875 with parents in a covered wagon. Removed to the Western Frontier of South Dakota in 1878, in the same covered wagon. She met Elliott PADDOCK at Fort Pierre, South Dakota, and on Mar 15, 1881 they were married, the first nuptial ceremony performed at Fort Pierre. They moved to his homestead near Tyndall, South Dakota, a few months later, and then in 1886, they moved to Pierson, Iowa.

Their children: Olive PADDOCK Pusch, Mitchell SD; Mabel PADDOCK Mathena, San Jose CA; John PADDOCK, Sioux City IA; Emma PADDOCK Stearns, Pierson IA; George PADDOCK, Parker SD; Edwin PADDOCK; Lucille PADDOCK; all living; 15 grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. PADDOCK was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was instrumental in helping her husband's business by personally accompanying land seekers on buying excursions to the area of Portland, Oregon, where she sold hundreds of acres to Iowa and Nebraska buyers.

Her husband, Elliott PADDOCK, preceeded her in death Oct. 25, 1925. Alice Jane TINKHAM PADDOCK was buried beside her husband in Moville Cemetery.
