My grandfather (James Tivis Pafford) was brother to Worley and Muncie. James Tivis Pafford and Anna Belle Neff married in Tennesee, and had one child, John Neff Pafford (My father). The family moved to Detroit, Michigan where James lived until his death 15 Jan 1951. I have lots of pictures of the family, but no names associated with the pictures. I have been posting them as I have time on the Pafford family tree in Ancestry.com as time permits. Children's pictures (with names written on photo) are "Zoe" and C.B.

I don't have information on Mary, except that she was one of William E. Pafford's 8 children. I have names of all the children. My records show that William's middle name was Elkanah - do you have the same? I am also descended through Randolph Pafford, Marion Pafford, and Levin Pafford.
Randolph Pafford and family lived at Center Point for some time and bought land there. When he moved on to Del Rio, William stayed in Center Point and Randolph either gave or sold his land to him. Good luck in finding information on Mary.

Jeanne

I do not have a copy of the will, but it can be ordered from England. The information came to the Pafford Group at Yahoo.com via Rachel Littlechild. She occassionly contributes to this message board.

Here in the information she provided:

"I recently obtained the will of Thomas Paffard, gentleman of Portsea, Hampshire, England, 1811

Thomas (bap. 29 Oct 1761 Saint Thomas, Portsmouth) was the son of James Paffard and Martha Binsted not as commonly thought James Paffard and Mary Matthews.

Thomas Paffard l believe was buried 16 Jan 1811 in Portsea.
His wife Nanny (Saunders) Paffard died in 1823. She was buried 09 Apr 1823 Portsea age 62. Nanny sometimes appears as Nancy but l think that’s just different handwriting.

His will mentions his wife Nanny Paffard, brother in law James Saunders, children Thomas Paffard, Jane Freeman Paffard, James Henry Paffard & Samuel Saunders Paffard.

I have heard rumours that they spent time in Kingston, Jamaica but l wonder if that is because they lived in Kingston, Portsea, Hampshire, England. (Kingston is in the middle of Portsea island, just to the north of Fratton and east of Landport.)

I can find nothing to indicate that they went to Jamaica or the USA at any time, so think the US Paffords must come from another branch. Thomas was a very popular Pafford name so that’s quite possible.

Do you know what the original idea that it was the Thomas Pafford who married Nanny Saunders who went to the US was based on? Any ideas may help me come up with another solution.

Please let me know what you think,

Regards Rachel Littlechild"

John Pafford

James (England) & Thomas (Eng & NC) Pafford

For those of you who trace their family lines back to England through Thomas Pafford will need to revise their family tree. It has been proven that the information for Thomas Pafford (c1761 Eng to 1849 TN)is a mixture of two Thomas Paffords. The English Thomas is believed to have died in England in 1811 and left a will that mentioned his children that we have been claiming as direct ancerters.

It is now believed that the North Carolina Paffords are descendents from a John Pafford who died in Surry Co, NC about Feb 1786. It is definite that he was the father of Samuel and Rachel who most of us say are the siblings of James Pafford. It is though he is the father of William and possibly a James.

As this information has just come to light, not a lot of informaiton is available. I would appreciate any information concerning this John Pafford, his wife, children, etc. Does anyone have any information on Nancy, the wife of Thomas c1861 to 1849 in DeKalb Co, TN?

The above John is not the same John Pafford that lived in the Charleston, SC area during the Revolutionary War.

John Pafford

Hi Virginia,

I'm William R. Pafford, and until recently I didnt know any ancestors beyond my grandfather, Robert Berrien Pafford Sr. I would be so grateful if you would share what you have researched about the Pafford line. I think I have found that James Pafford, the father of Thomas Pafford lived in England, and Thomas, along with his son who was also named James migrated to America in 1810. I'm interested in anything and everything... Pafford family history in America and the Pafford line that goes way beyond James Pafford in England. Stories included. Thanks for any info you can share with me.

SO PLEASED THAT YOU RESPONDED. THE WILLIAM PAFFOARD THAT IS OF INTREST TO OUR FAMILY WAS LIVING IN THE SOUTH OF ENGLAND IN THE COUNTY OF HAMSHIRE IN 1883 AND MARRIED MY 3xGREATGRANDMOTHER AS HIS SECOND WIFE. WE LOST THE FAMILY CONNECTION FOR A FEW YEARS AFTER WILLIAM'S STEP-SON BROUGHT HIS DAUGHTER, MY GREATGRANDMOTHER, TO AMERICA AND LEFT HER HERE WITH ANOTHER FAMILY AND RETURNED TO ENGLAND WHERE HE WAS KILLED BY A TEAM OF RUN AWAY HORSES ABOUT 6 YEARS LATER. SHE HAD NO MEMORY OF HER MOTHER AND NEVER SAW HER FATHER AFTER THE DAY HE KISSED HER AND LEFT HER IN NEW YORK. WE HAVE JUST DISCOVERED THE MARRIAGE OF WILLIAM PAFFARD TO AGNES ROSINA BESFER. THERE SEEMS TO A STRONG CONNECTIN TO PAFFARDS IN HAMPSHIRE ENGLAND. HOPE THIS HELPS. MANY THANKS, JESSIE

John H. Pafford was married to Frances A. Nelson..My grandfather Worley born 1882 was their son. He was killed at the Cudahy Plant in Sioux City Ia in 1927. His wife Zola (Boyer) was not living with him and the children at this time. There children's names were - Heath, Hazel, Theodore, b. 1919 Whiting Ia. (my dad) Mable, and Wanda..There were many articles in the paper in Sioux City as they were basically orphaned there. Muncie Pafford from Smyth co. Va. was Worley's youngest brother and he rode a train and took the kids back to Sugar Grove, Va. Zola went to Virginia at some time and got the kids and brought them to Omaha, Nebraska. I am trying to find a death date and place for James M. Pafford and his wife Nancy (Shupe) They would be my great-great-grandparents. I do know that Frances A.(Nelson) Pafford's father's name was Tevis Nelson buried the Nelson cemetery in Smyth Co. Would love to hear from anyone that has any info.

Hi, this is pretty basic, but I found your great grandfather in the social security death index. Here is is the web link.
http://ssdi.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi?lastname=paffordfi...

You could request his death record and get his parents names and that would help you out. It only costs 7.00. Hope this helps.

lisa

lchmiel@netzero.net

Pafford - Smyth County, Va

I am looking for information on my ggrandparents John and Francis Pafford. They had sons Worley 7-7-1883 and James born 7-7-1886 according to Smyth county birth records. I do not have any other information on any of these Pafford's except that Worley, my grandfather was killed by a fall around Sioux City, Ia? approx. 1926. Worley and Zola (Boyer) had 2 children, Heath and Hazel Pafford that were born in Virginia but my father Theodore was born Whiting, Ia after that in 1919 - believe they moved from Virginia to Iowa around that year. Any information linking other Pafford's in Smyth co. to John and Francis would be greatly appreciated.

My John H. Pafford was born 1854 to James M.and Nancy (Shupe) He was married to Frances A. Nelson b. 1851 . Her parents were John Tevis Nelson and Catherine Williams. They were all born in Smyth County. It took me awhile to figure out which one was my John H. Pafford as there were quite a few. James M. and William T. Pafford were brothers - they were the sons of Jonathon (John?) Pafford and Sarah A. Thompson. I have alot of info and census records to 1920 that was sent to me from someone who has done alot of research on the Paffords. Hope that this helps the confusion.

On the back of the picture was the note "former Sheriff of Collin County."

I don't have the photograph in my posession, my aunt does, and I will be borrowing many of them to scan to disk sometime in the next few weeks.
