Hello: Hope this info doesn't make matters worse. I have a Silas Painter b.1825 Kanawha Co.VA d. 1900 Putnam Co. WV. His parents are Barney Painter b.1791 in Botetourt Co. VA d.1860 Putnam Co.WV and Margaret Smith b.1807 d. 1860 Sissionville area Kanawha Co. WV. They were married 8/19/1819 in Botetourt Co. VA. Barney was the s/o John Painter and Catherine Frey. Margaret was the d/o William Elijah/Elisha Smith and her mother is unknown. William's past seems to be unknown also. Barney and Margaret had eight children, Francis, the first was born 1820. Silas was the second child born. (I have the other childrens names.) Silas married three women: Agnes Derrick in 1852 d/o Jonathan Derrick and Mary Hayes, Elizabeth Shiverdecker in 1854 d/o Michael Shiverdecker and Abigail Higgenbatham and last, but not least, Martha Harrison in 1855 b.1831 in Jackson Co. VA d. 1901 in Putnam Co. WV. Silas and Agnes had three children: Silas Painter Jr. m. Martha Meeks, James B. Painter (birthday unknown) and William Allen Painter b.1856 in Putnam Co. d. 1896. He m. Millie Catherine Hall 1879. She was b. 3/21/1857 d. 11/13/1941. That's the gist of it. I do have more dates and collateral names. If you have questions please ask.
