Ashford Eric Painter
LIBERTY - Ashford Eric Painter, 87, of Liberty, Jackson County, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at his home. He was born April 28, 1915, at Given, a son of the late Opha and Ethel Carney Painter. He was employed at Goodrich Gulf Chemical and retired as an assistant instructor of agriculture at the Roane-Jackson Technical Center. He was a member of the Community Tabernacle Church at Liberty and a life member of the Chemical Valley Racking Horse Association. He is survived by his wife, Opie Bailey Painter; two sons, Larry D. Painter and David L. Painter, both of Liberty; sisters, Velma Harris of South Charleston and Vada Kerns of Dunbar. He also is survived by three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at the Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Burial will be in Moss Chapel Cemetery, Given. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Opie Painter
Opie Bailey Painter, 87, of Liberty died July 31, 2003, at Hubbard House in Charleston.
She was born April 19, 1916 in Putnam County, daughter of the late Joseph and Blanche Landers Bailey. She was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker, was a member of Community Tabernacle Church of Liberty, and worked at Fletcher Enamel in Dunbar.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ashford Painter, 13 brothers and sisters.
Surviving: sons, Larry D. Painter and wife, Carole of Liberty and David L. Painter and wife, Connie of Liberty; sisters, Swannee Chamberlain of St. Albans, Odree “Babe” Nightingale of Texas and Audrey Baker of Florida; grandchildren, Mike Painter, Lori Elkins and Scott Painter; great-grandchildren, Jason Painter, Hannah Martin, Josh Martin, Jacob Painter, and Caylee Painter.
Service was held Sunday, August 3, 2003, at Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home, with the Rev. Billy Casto and the Rev. Nyle Fisher officiating. Burial was in Moss Chapel Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston WV 25311.
