I'm trying to piece together the tangled web of the Palazzolo and Manzella family connections. Both families came in waves from Cinisi between 1890 and 1920. They all seem to be related back in Sicily somehow, and chose to settle in the following cities:

New York
Detroit, Michigan
St. Louis, Missouri
New Orleans, Louisiana
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

I'm putting together an index of individuals arriving from Cinisi and their intended destination. Key individuals in the cities seem to include:

Giuseppe Manzella of New Orleans
Damiano Manzella of New Orleans
Francesco Fizarro of St. Louis
Salvatore Palazzolo of NYC
Faro Palazzolo of NYC
Salvatore Crocchiolo / Crocchicolo of Philadelphia

Pietro Agrusa of Detroit, MI

I'm not aware of any fishermen on the Palazzolo side of my family but there was quite a few on the Brancaleone side. From what I have heard, most of my Palazzolo's were in the produce business.

My father may have been named after your grandfather (or it was a common name in the area). He was baptised Francisco Paolo Palazzolo but after a bout with a fever his mother seemed to have changed it to Joesph Paul (than were in the US by then). The second z seems to have been lost at Ellis Island. He was born in 1912 in Terrazini but immigrated to the US in 1914.

I had an aunt Gracie in Memphis who was my father's oldest sister. I believe she passed away more than 40 years ago. The stories were that the family went back and forth to Sicily many times. That is why my dad (Joseph) was born in Sicily.

i have a question,
do you know if any of your great uncles or great frand father was a captin of a ship?
i remember as a little girl, my father said that we had family in memphis. and one of his family members was a captin of a ship, he had dinner at my house when i was very very little.
does any of this ring a bell?
please let me know, because my father has already passed away so my mother might know somthing.

I am a Palazzolo. My Great Grandfather was Vincenzo Palazzolo from Montelepre, Sicily who came to the states in the early 1900's. He had a son named Jospeh Palazzolo who was my grandfather who was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He had a brother named Chuck and a cousin named Ralph too.

I knew a Ralph Palazzolo that lived on Green Lake in Caledonia Michigan, which is 20 minutes south of Grand RAids, Michigan. He was my grandfathers cousin.

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. But that sometimes does triggers how we think about things. Tell me what you need to know about the name Palazzolo. I just read your post. My grandfather was adopted from St. Anne's orphan asylum in St. Louis. But he was baptized as Clarence Nelson. I don't know how much information you have regarding this adoption and if you know for sure that the adoption was a female, but St. Anne's did send me additional information regarding this adoption that I would like to share with you, if you believe this may help. Although the information that i received was that he was placed in the home of Micaurio and Angelina Palazzolo on April 21, 1914, but from I heard there was a family member who also adopted from St. Anne's Contact me if you would like to share info.

Hi, I just seen your post, it would be nice to have some information on the palazzolo name. MY grandfather who came back and forth, carmello , i think he was married twice, not sure, i may have two familys , it would be nice to know about this family. He did have a wife anna ruggeri they had 5 kids one died. but at ellis island it said something else, i would love to find the other family, i dont know what her name was. but i am lookig. when they came they lived on houseton st in n.y then moved. my father charles palazzolo, we lived in n,y, then moved to long island about 1955, in brentwood, so if you can help me out. i will thank you now. try to stay in touch, if you can give me any information it would be nice Roseanne, my email is durhamroseanne@bellsouth.net

my grandma was anna ruggeri from italy south, she married carmelo palazzolo,they came to the u.s in1920 with 4 kids. one died, but my father was born here in the u.s. they lived in new york on huston stn.y.
I think for what i know they came from regalbuto south sicily. there was annamaria,vito,lugi. there is alot to learn about this family, and no one will talk, my father stayed in the city alot, for all i know i may have other family if you know i mean. i would love to find out.. my father is charles he married madeline melicz. i lived on long island. i now live in s.c. if you can help it would be so nice. I am looking for information on a high school classmate, Mickey W Palazzolo. We graduated high school at Clarkston, MI in 1952
SSDI shows he was born 12 Mar 1934 and died 11 Dec 1997. He was a popluar guy and other classmates would like to know where he went after graduation.

I have found out more information about my Italian relatives. Looking for more information on Joe (Pepe) Palazzalo, wholesale fruit peddler in St. Louis, who owned a house on N.19th Street according to the 1920 and 1930 census. His wife, my Great-Great Aunt, was Carmela (Mary), and their children were: Bessie, Peter, Vincent, Dominic (also a fruit peddler), Mary, Joseph, Anna, and Gracie. Joe and Carmela came to the US in 1896. Looking for information on their Cincinnati, OH relatives, e.g., Frank Palazzalo, with regards to bootlegging operation during the prohibition -- runs were made from St. Louis to Cinn. Giuseppe Palazzolo

I am looking for information about Giuseppe Palazzolo who came to Detroit in 1913 with his wife Bianca. He was 31 in 1913. Bianca's maiden name is Leto. Giuseppe died sometime before 1920. Family stories tell of him dying as a result of gun shot wounds in a street fight in Detroit.
Bianca remarried Dominic Zerilli. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

My great grandmother was Maria Grazia Palazzolo her husband was Salvatore Furnari. Just guessing but I feel she would have been born around the 1850's in Italy.
What information do you have about that name?

My grandmother was Frances Rose Furnari. Her mother was Maria Palazzolo. Maria Palazzolo's husband was Salvatore Furnari. I have a lot of information about my grandmother Frances Furnari but that's all I know about Maria Palazzolo. I'm guessing at all the other information about her. My family was also very private and to themselves. When I was younger my interest was not there. But now that I have no living relatives to ask quesiton to it does get very frustrating at times. Frances Furnari was born in Borgetto, Palermo, Italy so I'm assuming her mother was also Italian. My grandmother came to New York then to Michigan then to California where she died and I still live. Maria Palazzolo was never in America that I can remember. So, I kinda think there may not be a connection to our families. What do you think?

I also found one in Florida and two in Utah. My family was a very big family once upon a time.

My grandmother is Grazia Palazzolo (misspelled as Grezia on her Social Security card) from Terrasini. She however was born on 2/25/1902 and married Luigi Brancaleone. Ironically, she was born in Memphis, TN but returned to Sicily as a child. Have you come across any information on a Grazia Palazzolo that does not seem to match your search and could possibly be related to me? It seems as though the names I'm looking for, Palazzolo and Mannino, are the Smiths and Jones of Italy. ;-)

Hi. My great-grandmother was Anna Palazzolo, born Jan 25, 1875 in Cinisi, Palermo, Sicily. She died on Oct 12, 1947 in St. Louis. Her husband was Giuseppe Orlando who was born in Partinico, Palermo, Sicily. They came to Ellis Island in 1921. Any info you may have would be great.

Carol and Roseann. If I may jump in here, I am also of Palazzolo decent. Maybe my info. will help in you search(s).
My great grandfather Joseph came from Sicily. He spent his years with my Great Grandmother Rosalia De Santis also from Sicily. They were not legally married until the 1950's. They had 5 children - Angelia,
Jospehine, John, Anna and Salvitore. They resided in NYC's lower east side between 1st and 2nd Ave(s).
Anna and Salvitore are still alive and in their 80's.
John's grandchildren reside in NJ. Anna resides out west with her daughter. The rest of us are on Long Island.
Let me now if a connection is found.
