Hello I have a connection to Thomas Pallister going back to Robert his ancestor. I connect through the daughter of John Pallister Eleanor through her decendants to the Crowthers who are linked to the Seckers.
I am also linked to the Pallisters on my maternal side as my mother is a Pallister by birth. I do not have a connection on that side at the moment.

Hello

I can trace Thomas Pallister (b 13 Aug 1704) back four generations to Robert Pallister of Middrigde b about 1565-75. He is the brother of my direct ancestor, Robert.

Please post if you would like more info.
We are currently researching our family histories which include studies on the ancestry of our 16 great grandparents. One of the families studied was Pallister. We have just put our findings onto the following website: http://hortonpallister.awardspace.com
Just thought we’d let fellow Pallister researchers know in case it can help fill any gaps in your research… or vice versa!
McKenzie Alexander Pallister and sisters

You seem a bit out with your dates for McKenzie's sisters. Mary Ann Pallister was born 1878. Jane Stewart Pallister was born 1882. Jessie Pallister was born 4 Feb 1884 (she married Edward Wanless). Susan Pallister was born 1887. Jemima Pallister was born 1897.

McKenzie Pallister was the son of John Pallister and Jane Stewart Forbes. She was the daughter of McKenzie Alexander Forbes and Jane Stewart, who married at Leith on 10 Dec 1849.

John Pallister was the illegitimate son of Mary Anne Pallister, but not the one of Windmill Hills. She was born in Wrekenton, and was one of the daughters of Peter Pallister and wife Catherine. She married Thomas Coulson in 1861, the same year one Christopher Coulson Pallister was born.

Coincidentally, there were two illigitimate John Pallisters born in Heworth around the same time, both sons of Mary Annes. The first was registered as John Pallistger (sic) in the Dec qr 1857 at Gateshead. This one was baptised at Heworth on 7 Mar 1858. The second was John Pallister, registered in the Sept qr 1858 at Gateshead. I am told his birth cert shows he was born on 1 Sep 1858, son of Mary Ann Pallister, the dau of John Pallister & Margaret Watson.

John Pallister lived next door to his mother, Mary Coulson, from at least 1881-1891.

Quite a bit I am missing if anyone can fill in the gaps.
McKenzie Alexander Pallister b 22/12/1879 who married a Margartet Wanless had four sisters. Mary Anne born in 1887 ,Jane Stewart Pallister b 13/1/1892, Susan Pallister b 26/1/1887 & Jemima Pallister b 13/6/1896.Does anyone know when & if they were married, to whom and when they died.

Mckenzie was the son of John Pallister 8/1/1858-28/12/1915 and Jane Stewart Forbes b 29/12/1854. John's mother was an unmarried lady called Mary Ann Pallister born on 31/8/1838 in Windmill Hills in Gateshead. I can't find any tracew she married or had other children or when she died.

Finally Mary Ann was the daughter of John Pallister & Margaret Pallister ( Watson) from Gateshead again I can't find out anything about these...can anyone help???
I'm trying to help my best friend do some research, but I need more information about the ancestors of William Pallister born 25 December 1857 in England. He married Minnie Boyd in (my guess is) 1885 - 1890 in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. They had 6 kids, 3 boys and 3 girls before he died sometime between 1907 and 1911. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: William Pallister b.1817

If it is the right chap, this William Pallister was a farmer living in Long Newton, County Durham, in 1881, age 64. He was born in Durham, and was living with his wife, Margaret, age 58 (born York), and their unmarried children John, William, Margaret and Richard (aged 31, 29, 27 and 15 respectively and all born Durham). I take him to be the same William Pallister whose death was registered at Stockton, Durham in the September quarter, aged 76. I have several possible William Pallisters born about 1817, but none in Durham itself. Living close by in Long Newton, was a family called Pounder, with whom was living Albert Pallister, age 5 and born in Canada, the grandson of William Pounder. The birth of Peter Pallister would appear to have been registered in Guisborough, North Yorkshire, in the June quarter 1848, and that of John also in Guisborough (not Durham) in the June quarter 1849. I suspect William Pallister was baptised in Kirk Levington on Christmas Day 1816. If so, then he belongs to what I call Group 2, which genealogy I should be putting on to Rootsweb Worldconnect soon.
I recently purchased several old photographs and among them are two people with the surname Pallister. I would like to see these returned to the correct family.

1 - Mandy Pallister - on back is written: Maiden name Palmer, cousin of Leslie Palmer's father - taken in 1800's - Wheeler Studio, Pittsfield, MA

2 - Charlie (?) Pallister - taken in 1800's - Reynolds Studio, 403 Grand Street, Brooklyn, E.D.

I do ask to be reimbursed for what I paid for photos ($5 each). If interested please contact me offline.

Thanks,
Lee Stone

I have reached a roadblock in my research. William was married to Margaret Parlour in 1844. He died in 1893. His son was Peter Pallister who died in 1880 in Ontario. Peter married Margaret Pounder in 1869. If anyone has leads on these names please let me know. Thank you.

Re: Pallister surname

MacKenzie Alexander Pallister's birth was registered in the Chester le Street registration district of Co Durham in the March quarter of 1880. He appears in the 1881 census in Lamesley, Durham, with his sister, Mary Ann (b 1878, reg Ch le St), father, John and wife Jane Stuart Pallister as Alexander Pallister. Jane Stuart Pallister was born about 1856 in Scotland. John, a stone quarryman, was born in Heworth, Durham about 1858. John Pallister was baptised in Heworth on 7 March 1858 the son of Mary Ann Pallister (no father named). She may have been the Mary Ann Pallister whose birth was registered in Gateshead in the December quarter 1838. I have more information if you would like to email me.

Re: Pallister Family of Ontario

I wonder if Matthew Pallister was the same Mathew Palister of Amabel in Bruce County, Ontario in the 1871 census when he was a farmer aged 35, born in Ontario and a Wesleyan Methodist.

At the same time, in Streetsville, Peel County in 1871, was Michael Palister, a labourer, age 47, born England, and Church of England.

At the same time, in South Pickering, Ontario, in 1871 was John Palister, a farmer age 54 born England and a Wesleyan Methodist. He came with his parents to Canada. This John Palister was born in 1814 and baptised in 1816 in Kilburn, Yorks. He died in Pickering in 1893 and married Caroline Tracy.

I have no idea whether Matthew was the son of John, but it's possible. Neither do I have any idea who Michael was, but perhaps he was the son of a sibling.

Agatha E Pallister was born in 1901, died in Seattle in 1992 and was buried in California, as I expect you know. I think her origins were in Utah. Her husband was Thomas Gordon Pallister who was born in 1898, apparently in Michigan, and died in California in 1965. He does not appear on the 1920 or 1930 US censuses so it is difficult to track him. Do you have other info?

Eliza Pallister

The only Eliza Pallister birth registered at the General Register Office around this time, is that for Eliza Pallister, registered March 1838 in Ripon, Yorkshire. But this seems a little early, and in the wrong place The Parish Register shows that she was baptised at Ripon, on 17/1/1838, daughter of Robert Pallister and wife Emma Metcalfe. They had 3 other children, Edwin, Mary Ann and Michael. None of them appear in the 1881 census for England, so I presume they emigrated. An Eliza Palliser married at Leeds in 1860, which is quite near Ripon, but miles from Durham. Don't know if this helps.
