Romantics we must be
I also was told that I was related to Barbara (Villiers) Palmer.
She was married to a Roger Palmer ( a Royalist Lawyer) as a 19 year old and had one girl child born February 1661 believed to be because of her status as the Kings Mistress which started in 1660. Later in 1661 Roger Palmer was elevated to the Nobillity as the Earl of Castlemaine but the humiliation of his wife's liason with the king meant that they seperated in 1662, but Barbara now one of the nobility had greater influence over the King and in fact had four further children in the next five years.
She does have her portrait in The National Portrait Gallery and I have also seen a painting of her in Parham House Sussex.
Hope that answers any question
Regards
Humphrey Palmer
She married William Horton in 1888, Walsall and died Mar qtr 1890, Aston. No indication of William Horton on the 1891 census with any children. You would need to get a copy of the marriage certificate and death certificates to be certain.

HTH

Howard

Dear Hilary

I am a descendant of General William Plamer through his son William Palmer. The latter's daughter Lucy or Louise Palmer is my great grand mother's mother. I understand that General Palmer is a descendant of Barbara (Villers) Palmer the mistress of Charles 11 but am not sure how. A great grandson maybe. You should read William Dalrymple's White Mughals has quite a bit on General Palmer.

Yasmeen

Hi Helen
Know this is a little late, but hopefully you will still pick it up! I am descended from the Palmers of Over Stowey, with my branch ending up in Clevedon. I've managed to trace back as far as John Palmer (1711) and his father William. Does this sound like there's a connection?
I was in the Air Force 1961-1965 stationed at Beale AFB in Marysville, CA. John James Palmer was a friend of mine and he and his wife introduced me to my first wife. I can't remember his wife's name, but she worked in banking and Jim worked for New York Life Insurance after he got out of the Air Force. I lost track of him in 1968.

He was from New York state, as I recall.

If this is the same individual, contact me at pitriverrat@frontiernet.net Bob

My Corydon B. was a doctor, born and lived in New York until he moved to Detroit with his daughter Jane (Jennie) when she married my great-grandfather, Allen H. Frazer. He died in 1890. Thanks for responding and keep in touch about our (probably related) Corydons.

JOHN PEMBERTON PALMER 1770-1845 Mass>Ohio

I am looking for information and confirmation of the descendants of John Pemberton Palmer. I have some conflicting information on the children and would like to correspond with anyone that is researching this line.

John married (1) Abigail Jewett in Rowley, Mass. on June 25, 1793 (from: "The Early Settlers of Rowley, Mass"). According to unconfirmed information that I have received they had the following children:
1.) Betsey Palmer b: 28 Dec. 1793 in Rowley, d: 15 Sept. 1879 in Lawrence Twp, Washington Co., OH. She married Felix McGuire in 1831 in Marietta, Washington Co., OH
2.) Moses Palmer b: 2 Aug. 1795, d: aft. 1843
3.) Jewett Palmer b: 18 May 1797 in Orford, Grafton Co., NH d: 12 Sept. 1873 in Salem Twp., Washington Co., OH. He married Rachel Campbell on 30 March 1823 in Washington Co., OH.
4.) Mary Palmer b: 29 Jan. 1800 in Wentworth, Grafton Co., NH d: 14 Nov. 1876 in Salem Twp., Washington Co., OH. She married (1)Samuel Porter on 4 May 1820 in Washington Co., OH. (2) Alva Hoyt on 8 March 1840 in Washington Co., OH

Other information that I have shows different years of birth for these children and also shows a 5th child born to John and Abigail. This other information shows that Mary was born in 1798 and a child, James was born in 1800. Abigail Jewett Palmer died 1 Sept. 1800 in Wentworth, Grafton Co., NH. It is chronologically possible that Abigail died giving birth to James noting the 8-9 months difference between Mary and James' birth in the first set of information received.

John married (2) Elizabeth Harris on 18 Mar. 1802 in Wentworth Co., NH. I have confirmed information on some of the children in this line. The information that I have is as follows:

1.) Henry Palmer b: unknown d: unknown (unconfirmed)
2.) James Palmer b: 16 Jan. 1803 in Wentworth, Grafton Co., NH, d: 2 Dec. 1877 in Kansas. He married Polly Tuttle in 1826 in Washington Co., OH (confirmed)
3.) Rebecca Palmer b: 1 April 1807 Wentworth, Grafton Co., NH, d: 5 Oct. 1856 in Lowell, Washington Co., OH. She married Septimus (?) Bartmess on 29 June 1830 in Washington Co., OH
4.) Francis Palmer b: 5 March 1809 in Wentworth, Grafton Co., NH, d: 8 Mar. 1809 in Washington Co., OH. He married Ann Manby Tildsley on 10 May 1833.
5.) Sarah Palmer b: abt. 1811 in Wentworth, Grafton Co., NH, d: aft. 1899 in Washington Co., OH. She married John Kelley on 31 Dec. 1838 in Washington Co., OH.
6.) John Pemberton Palmer II b: abt. 1813 in Wentworth, Grafton Co., NH, d: aft. 1860 in (unknown location). He married Sarah Ward on 15 Sept. 1839 in Washington Co., OH.
7.) Joseph Palmer b: 29 Jan. 1815 in Wentworth, Grafton Co., NH, d: Nov. 1901 in Steelville, Crawford Co., MO. He married Matilda Ward on 24 August 1837 in Washington Co., OH.
8.) Jane Palmer b: 29 Sept. 1817 in Jewett's Mill, Grafton Co., NH, d: 29 Feb. 1892 in Marietta, Washington Co., OH. She married Arnzi Allen on 1 May 1842 in Washington Co., OH.
9.) Eunice Palmer b: 12 Nov. 1819 in Fearing Twp., Washington Co., OH, d: 22 Jan. 1899 in Chillicothe, Livingston Co., MO. She married George Tuttle on 25 Jan. 1843 in Washington Co., OH.
10.) Harris Palmer b: abt. 1820 in Fearing Twp, Washington Co., OH, d: (date unknown) in Mt. Pleasant, Henry Co., IA. He married Angelina (?)
11.) Abigail Palmer b: abt. 1821 in Fearing Twp, Washington Co., OH, d: aft. 1900 in Nebraska. She married John G. Leedham on 31 Dec. 1899 in Washington Co., OH.
12.) Anna Palmer b: abt 1826 d: unknown (unconfirmed).

I do have some information on the children of some of 16 children of John Pemberton Palmer. I am looking for any help in continuing these lines of the Palmer family. There are many second marriages in the ancestry of John Pemberton Palmer. John's ancestry traces back to Sgt. John Palmer who came to Rowley, Mass in 1639 from Yorkshire, England. I am trying to trace the descendants of Sgt. John Palmer and Margaret (Northend)(Cross) Palmer. So far I have 4700 descendants of this couple. About 85% of this information is confirmed and documented. I am very willing to share any information that I have.

I would really appreciate any help with this project and always give proper accolades for confirmed contributions. Thanks in advance for any consideration. I can be emailed directly at: jpkline@hotmail.com. Jeanne Palmer Kline
Re: Monroe County, Ohio Palmers

I checked in my data and do not have any of the names.

This is what I have on my family who settled in Monroe County, Ohio:
"John Palmer came from England in an early day with his parents and settled in New Jersey. From there he came to Sidling Hill, where he raised a large family, he being twice married. He removed to Monroe County, Ohio, where he died. He was a member of the Old School Baptist Church. All of his children went to Ohio with him, except two- Ezediah, who married Jacob Truax and she lived to be nearly one hundred years old, and Joseph, who married Berthenia Pitman."

(Compiler notes: Ezediah married Benjamin Truax, Jr. Joseph is our directline ancestor.)

This is the only firm information we have been able to find on John Palmer. We have searched New New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio and haven’t located any record of John, his parents, their arrival from England, his wives, or his death. The Courthouse at Monroe County, Ohio, burned on June 13, 1867, and all estate records and most land records were lost. There are dozens of John Palmers in every source we have checked.

Fortunately, we have located records for Joseph and Ezediah in Pennsylvania and other children in Monroe and Morrow Counties, Ohio.

We name John Palmer’s children:
(There may have been more.)
» Elizabeth Palmer (1766-1858)
» Joseph Palmer (1773-1856)
» John Palmer (1775-1832)
» Ezediah Palmer (1780-1879)
» Mary "Polly" Palmer (1783-1858)
» David Palmer

(Joseph & Mary "Polly" our direct line)

The following record from the Monroe County, Ohio, Court of Common Pleas Book 72, Page 62, helps identify some of John Palmer’s children for us. Although it names a David as the brother of John’s son John, we can locate no further information connecting him to this family.

Will of John Palmer annexed. Petitioned to sell lands, filed February 5,1846, states John Palmer the testator died 1832- bequeathed property in Beallsville Lot #7 to be sold to sustain relich Ruth Palmer, now Ruth Williams. Joseph & David Palmer brothers of testator; Samuel Truax & wife, Elizabeth; Benjamin Truax & wife, Ezediah; Stillwell Truax & wife, Mary; said ladies being sisters of testator. ("Monroe County, Ohio Records XI, Catherine Foreaker Fedorchak Ô 1974, Pg. 107.)
Reva Agnes HOPKINS (1927-2000) divorced from E. C. PALMER

I would like to confirm her DOD in Cleveland. This later date 28 Sep is shown in SSDI, whereas the family has reported 27 Sep 2000 to me. I believe that her father was: Walter Benjamin HOPKINS of TN (1902-1958). I would like to ascertain if this was his spouse (mother of Reva specifically): Elizabeth LASURE. These names are in a new branch of my Family Tree and I wish to ascertain ancestors of all. Reva was divorced from her 1st spouse Everette Cecil PALMER and I would like to ascertain that date, and inquire if Reva later remarried.

Palmer possibly changed to Gipson/Gibson - of NC/GA

Hi, I have been tracing the family of Noah Arthur Gipson/Gibson. His father was Walter A. Gipson/Gibson.
Walter's father was Hiram Gipson/Gibson. Hiram's father was George W. Gipson/Gibson.
Recently we are hearing rumors that the Gipson/Gibson's are not really Gipson/Gibson but are Palmers! Has anyone on this list heard of anything similar. I have no idea when this had taken place. Supposedly there was a fire, Palmer parents died and the children were taken in by Gipson/Gibson and raised as Gipson/Gibson.
All we do know is that the Gipson/Gibson's we thought we were related to lived in NC and GA.
Please e-mail me direct at darlene.poppe@gmail.com
Thanks and take care,
Darlene

Clifford Wellington Palmer

Hi Donna,

I am researching the Palmer Family as well. I believe we are connected as my husband's maternal grandfather was Clifford Wellington Palmer, brother of Alfred Dorrance Palmer son of Israel C. Palmer. If this is true you have a TON of information I would love to link up too. I would be happy to share what information I have for the Palmer's in/from Ceylon. My husband and I grew up in Fairmont MN and his mother was Alma Nina Palmer (who married Beryl Ira Bromley), youngest daughter of Clifford Wellington Palmer and Hattie Belle Smith.

Nice find

The Florida Death record says "Harry Palmer" which I suppose could be a nickname for Harvey or possible just a transcription error, sometimes a small r can look like a small v.

Here is the link.

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#...

Found his death record, he died 2/19/1913 Lake Como, Florida, the same small town where other relatives lived. ODD THING - Death Certificate says his mother was Mary Ferris, which does not jive with the Palmer book. It is the same Stephen Palmer, zero doubt, certificate says was born 3/4/1825 in Pleasantville, NY.

Granted this Palmer book is full of countless tiny errors, perhaps this is one, perhaps not.
