Lynn, I hope you will contact me. I have contact with the grandson of Emma Pankratz who is the sister of Louise, Emilia, and Louis. He is part of the family still living in Germany and is very interested in learning about his Pankratz relatives who went to the US. If Louise is your grandmother, you are 2nd cousins.

Hello Beverly,

I have been looking intothe Pankratz family, my gt gt grandfather was Joseph and his wife came to New Zealand in 1860 with a Captain Kripner and his family.
Do you know the names of here parents? Try searching the county where she grew up for other Pankratz names http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~langlade/
That is if she grew-up in that county, making an assumption.

I could not find a Hattie Pankratz on a census. You can try and find out if Hattie was her nickname.

Searching on the Wisconsin history site http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/ I found a Pankratz, Hedwig Birth Nov 04 1889 Winnebago. Is this your ancestor?

My Great-Grandmother was named Hattie Straub. Hattie is short for Hariette in English or Henriette and Hedwig in German.

If that is her, then order the record and it should give you her parent's names.

Most Pankratz families in Manitowoc are from South-Western Bohemia.

Daniel

Hi! I am just beginning research on the Pankratz side of my family and don't know much. My Great Grandmother was Hattie Pankratz. She was born in 1889 and died at 102 years old in 1991. She lived in Phlox, WI and was married to a Ambrose Dobrinska. I don't know if there is a connection but any information you can give would be helpful.

Amber

There is still a small village of Rothenbaum, Bohemia where some of the ancestors still live. About 2 miles from Hirschau

In looking over immigrant passenger lists I may have some information on the Peter Pankratz you are looking for. ON may 22, 1886 the SS Eider docked in New Orleans and on the passenger list are Peter Pankratz age 40, farmer from Alexanderwhole, Russia. Also with Peter were Elisabeth, 40, Peter, 17; Johann, 15; Heinrich 14; David 8; Jacob 6; Abraham 4; Isaak 11; Elisabeth 7; Anna 5; Maria 1;

My great, great grandparents were Joseph and Mary katherine Brunner Pankratz but don't see any Pankratz in my family tree that was from Russia...I believe all came from Bohemia/germany. Good luck.

I am sure we are writing about the same person. I do have a very extensive family tree of the Joseph and Maria Wenzel Pankratz family. I think the Bob Pankratz may be my cousin. His dad was Wenzel (Jim). I have changed my email address since I first posted so did not get a notice of your reply.
I would love to see pictures of Zelena Ruda (Markt Eisenstein) when you return. I did get some information from the Diosese of Regensberg on the ancestry of the family. I would like very much to correspond with you and compare notes.

I have a family tree of the Joseph J Pancratz (B 1848 Eisenstein D 1933 Hewitt Wi)
and his wife Anna Marie Wenzel(B 1848 eisenstein D 1921 Hewitt Wi)
This family tree was given to me by Robert Pancratz of Madison Wisconsin. Do you already have this information?
This family tree goes back to the 1700's. I suspect you may be related to Bob. I am traveling to Zelena Ruda (Markt Eisenstein) in september. My family is also from this small place in the Bohmerwald. I hope to find the original farm of my Ur-ur Vater Ignatz Wenzel. Good luck with your research and let me know if you want me to scan and send you this family tree.

Best Wishes,

Dave Herbst

I do not have the exact date of George PANKRATZ death. All I know is the Social Security data base information in that respect. However, I do have a letter or two from George that was written in 1969 or 1970. I would be happy to make copies of the letters and send them to you. They are interesting because they cover a little about his Father's life in Bohemia as he related it to him (George) and George's early life and encounters with relatives. Feel free to e-mail me directly at my e-mail address mbtratz at (@)earthlink.net if you are interested. Bob

Kathryn,

My Michael Dolan (born NY about 1849) whose parents were Patrick Dolan and Julia Campbell Dolan was on the 1870 census in Vernon County, WI, living with Patrick and his other siblings. Julia had died in 1866. About 1871 or so Patrick took his single kids with him and moved to Edina, MO. There was no listing in 1880 with Michael with him. So, either my Michael remained in Wisconsin or went somewhere else. I believe the James and Ellen that you mention did have a son named Michael (and probably also born in New York). If this is the Michael who married the Caroline Pankratz then it is not my Michael. Do you know for sure that this Michael was the one married to Caroline? A volunteer looked up this marriage record in Wisconsin and said this Michael's parents were James and Ellen which are not my ancestors. I've just been contacted by another chap who is related to these Dolans and he is looking into it also. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. Please respond if you have further information. Thanks again!

Found some information on Dolans. Look at the 1870 census. I think the mother is Ellen age 62 in 1880 and then shows up 1870 husband James. Michael must be married, hes not home in 70 but kearn spelled Curran is there. I heard from a relative of Emma's who was married to Kearn Dolan born NY as was Michael Dolan married to Caroline.

This couple is Therese Pfilschiffer and Jacob Pongratz. They arrived 1851 on the Cariolanus from Bremen, Germany. They are listed as single and 23 years old on the ships manifest. Married in Milwaukee. Jacobs land was purchased 1857 in Onalaska. He was a teamster on the 1870 census. I have been working on his son, Franklin. It looks like Caroline was born in 1856, probably Milwaukee. I will look for other information on her as I search for my Franklin.

Do you have an exact date of death for George Pankratz born April 1885 and died October 1970. I am trying to obtain an obituary for him. The social security death index lists his last known residence as Delano, Kern county Calif. but I do not find him listed in the California death index. I have somebody who is willing to look up his obit if she has the exact date of death. Thank you, Bobbi

Hi Robert, If you still read the boards maybe you could help me out. I just found an obituary last night for my g-grandmother's brother, George Heitl. It said that he had a sister, Mrs. Frank Pankratz from Menasha. I have checked the census and it appears that this Frank was born about 1854 or so.I do not know exactly where my Heitl's came from, but my g-grandmother, Rosalia Heitl married George Rippl who was from Grun, now Zelena Lhotia. I believe that they knew each other before they immigrated. It sounds like this is the same family that you are working on. I would love to compare notes.
Thanks, Bobbi

Hi Robert,
I assume seeing as you gave me Heather Rippl's name, you know that this is the same family. I have been in contact with her, but she moved now and I have not gotten a hold of her.

I found a small obit for Anna Pankratz but it did not give her maiden name. I just got an obit for Theresa Heitl, the mother of the Heitl children and it lists Mrs. Frank Pankratz of Menasha also. Everything points that this would be the same Frank Pankratz. Theresa's obit also said that she was survived by 10 children, 6 of whom were still in Germany. Do you know anything else about the Heitl's that you could share. If you want to contact me at my email, it is huitingthefamily@aol.com

Thanks, Bobbi
