I am in the process of researching John Pannell and came across this message. Can you give me any further information on John Pannell. John Pannell is my husband's Great Grandfather. I do know that he married Lear Carty and that is as far as I can go. I had also heard that John Pannell was murdered in Wise County, VA.

Hello all,
My cousins and I from Idaho, California and Virginia are planning a trip to North Carolina in hopes of meeting some of our NC cousins and would like to get some kind of reunion going for the Pannel/Pannell families and the lines they married into. We will be in Jackson Co. on June 10 thru the 12 2008. If any one is interested please e-mail me at tamhbrih@aol.com.
Kimber Pannel and Martha Tilson

I am looking for my great, great grandfather who was born in North Carolina about 1834-1839. His name may have been John Pannel or Kimber Pannel. He married Martha Tilson (Tilison) and they had two children, John Franklin Pannel, born March 15, 1861 in Jackson Co., NC and Synthie Elvira Pannel, born, according to some posted records, January 10, 1854.

I believe John Pannel was killed in the Civil War. I have not been able to find Martha; however, I have found both John and his sister Synthie in two NC census records. The first record, year 1870, Qualla, NC, lists Cynetia E. Panel, age 12 and her brother John F., age 7, living with Samuel M. Gibson and his wife Teressa. The next census NC, 1880, lists Synthie as Cynthia Watts, age 22 and her daughter, Tennissee age 11/12 months, living with F. M. Nations and his wife, Mary in Barkers Creek, NC.

I have not been able to find any listing of Synthie nor her parents thus far in any census for NC in the year 1860. Synthie would have been about 2 years old according to the age listed for her in the 1870 census.

My great grandfather, John Franklin Pannel married Sarah Gunter and moved to Idaho with his family in the early 1900's.

Any help you could provide would be much appreciated.

My new e-mail is: AdellePlatt@aol.com.

Thank you.

Pam, Yes, these counties are familiar to me; this family was all over Va. But my line of family was already in TN by this time; they were probably cousins/relatives of my 4th g grandfather, HARDY PENUEL. He was born 1781 in Franklin Co, NC, then showed up in Wilson Co, TN by 1805/6. Going back 2 or 3 generations, though, they're surely related.
Cindy

Jenny,There might be a connection; can you give me some years for your Pannells? Ours were there during most of 1700s; then our line migrated to NC(by 1790s),to TN by 1806,
then KY. We've found Pannells in Pittsylvania Co, VA; William L. Pannell was a trustee when Riceville was incorporated in 1835. He owned a plantation named Chalk Level. We think his sons were John, David, and Samuel. John could have been the father of my 4th g grandfather, HARDY PENUEL, but we can't make the link. My email is groveinter@aol.com; send me what you have, and maybe we can fill in some gaps. Cindy
