how are you doing? I bet you never anticipated a reply from
all the way Australia. It's a small planet after all!!
I'm 38yrs old,divorced and I have a 8yr old son,named Gianni.
An abbreviation for Giovanni, which was my father's name.He passed away in 1995 at the young age of 61.My mother's name is Maria and I have brother name Tom.
We own and operate a cafe' in Sydney. We arrived in Australia
in 1978,from a little town called Falerna,Catanzaro. My father was born in Tiriolo,Catanzaro which is next to Gimigliano.
Basically all the Paonessa and Rotella (my grandmother was
Maria Rotella born1891 in Gimigliano) came from those two towns. My cousin who lives in Italy has the letters that my grandmother wrote to her father.Amazing stuff.Dated early 1900's.I know that my ''Nonno" was employed by the road maintanance bla bla, after the war, which was quite amazing considering the depression that followed the war.He was transfered to Falerna and of course the whole fmily.I know that my grandmother was a school teacher and that her family
were all literate, something not very common in those days. That is why there are letters and documentation about.
She was actually my"Nonno" teacher!!He was 7yrs younger!!
What a sensational story those days.
Have you ever visited Italy?Ok,this is what I will do.I will contact my family over there about more precise information, keep in mind, that "Italians"are not very prompt in their reply.I give you my cellular phone number:0418255346 if you wish to contact me,otherwise through electronic mail is just as effective.Looking forward to your reply, ciao Pino Paonessa.
