I have come across a Gustave & Sultana (Papageorge) Contos who were both Greek. They lived in San Francisco and appear on the 1920 & 1930 census. Gus was a Grocery Store Proprietor, and they resided at 575-25th Ave in SF in 1938 and 1940 (per voting registration records) I believe I saw that they came to the US in 1918. Not sure if they are connected or not.

Elise, MN

Looking for PAPAGEORGOPULOS, Calif. 1910-16

A Demetrio and John Papageorgepulos were in San Francisco from at least 1910 to 1916. They were listed in the 1910 census as being born in Italy. Both were musicians and Demetrio was listed in the 1910 census as a "theater musician" ...probably played the theater organ for silent movies.

I assume Papageorge is a shortened form of Papageorgepulos or a similar Greek name. Does anyone know of California connections ?

Hi Shawn, my name is Steve Janssen. My Greek mother-in-law Anna Panagiotopoulos who imigrated to the states around 1950 just shared with me some family tree stuff for a project my son in 6th grade is doing. Her mothers name was Arete Pappageorge, from the village of Tsaritsani in the Peleponn. She guesses it was about 40 km northwest of Larissa. She said there were many Pappageorge's still back there in the village. At least they were when she left. Hope this helps your search.

It is my understand through Sophie that Linda passed away some time ago. I was sorry to hear that. I am truly interested in finding out what I can about our grandfather. I have only one small picture of him from when Caliope got married. Any information you have would be appreciated. I will be glad to call you if you care to share your phone number. It is a long story but in short, Caliope did not care for her father and would not let me or my sister have contact with him. I only know a story of him here or there.

Irene
