Peter's father was Nicolaus Paradies (also spelled Paradeis on the 1860 census).

They lived in Holland, Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

The census says they came from Luxenbourg.

I found a ship record that said they emigrated to the US in 1847.

Note that another record for Peter says Luxemborg. At that time (1847), Luxemborg was an independent state that was in an economic union with Germany (Deutschland).

Also, note that they came to America just a year after the Belgian Revolution where Luxemborg lost 1/2 of it's territory.

In other places Peter is listed as having come from Luxemborg.

My father was William T Paradies.

His father was Theodore Paradies.

His Father was Peter Paradies.

In the 1900 census (http://content.ancestry.com/Browse/view.aspx?dbid=7602&p...) it says that Peters parents were German and He was born in Germany. He immigrated to the US in 1947.

His wife was Mary who was from Wisconsin.

In 1900 he lived on the family farm in Cabery, IL (Ford County).

Since his wife was from Wisconsin, maybe he lived in Wisconsin prior to moving to Illinois?

I'll see if I can find anything on Peter Paradies in Wisconsin.

My great-grandparents settled in Aztalan, Wis and Lake Mills, WI. Herman Ludwig Paradise was born 10-31-1853, Germany; d-03-17-1931, Lake Mills, WI. and married Bertha C. Topel, b-08-23-1855, Germany; d-06-23-1895; Town of Aztalan, WI. Several of their children dies during the plague that was going through during those times. My ggrandmother and some of her relatives and children are buried in a cemetery in the Town of Aztalan and some in the City of Lake Mills. Their daughter Martha married my grandfather George Henry Kahl in Lake Mills.

Bertha's father was Martin Topel.

Kristin, it is possible there is a connection, I just don't have enough information to know
I have not been able to find the parents names of Johann (John) born 1847. I am still searching
for a more specific place of birth other than Prussia. Do you
know where in Prussia Johann Franz Paradies or where in Germany Carl Paradies was born. John Paradise
said in the 1820 census that he was born in West Prussia.
It would be wonderful if we could make some connection.

I also have a Johann Paradies. Born 1847. Immigrated to the United States about 1864. We know he was born in Prussia, but that is about all we know regarding where he came from. We do not have the names of parents or siblings.
Do you know where in Prussia or Germany your Pardies line came from?

Do you know which town in Pommerania your Paradies ancestors came from? My only hope for finding information on the parents and his siblings seems to be to find which town in Prussia he may have come from. After arriving in the United States my Johann Paradies joined the U.S. Army and changed his name to John Paradise. I appreciate knowing about your Paradise line and am hoping I may be able to find some connection in Prussia. Paula Paradise

It says on Carl and Otilie's marriage certificate that they were from Pommern, which we know as Prussia. It was the district around Berlin I think(?) Germany as we know it wasn't a COUNTRY until about 1874 or 1875. I have information from the Morman site saying that Otilie was born in Neu Preusen Prussia. That is all I have.

mY JOHANN (jOHN) WAS BORN IN 1876 in Oconomowoc WI. His parents are Carl Gustav P.born 8 Nov 1837 died 31 Oct 1902 and his Mom Otilia Sophia Sellnow born 12 Feb 1851. both from Pommern which is German for Prussia.She came to US about 1862. All are Lutheran-they were married in Farmington,Jefferson county 13 June 1875.His parents are Johann Franz P and Johanna Brunnke. Hers are Johann Franz Sellnow and Dorthia Hoft. They had 8 children. John,Elizabeth(my grandma),George(he died at 2 of scarlet fever),Henriette,Otto,Ferdinand who was called Fred,Lydia the youngest, Carl and Jennie. I have personally known Henriette,Lydia. and Carl I think. My Grandma died from an appendix operation in 1927 about 20 years before I was born. I got most of my info personally or from the Jefferson County Court House vital records. Hope this helps
