If this will help me understand the simple mechanics of my own family tree in(Ancestry.com) I'd be more then interested in trying anything to simplify the tree to my mental aptitude. i am irritaded because today my granddaughter sent me an e-mail asking if I could help her find ancestry information necessary for a school paper. Well I failed because i could not find what she needed at my fingertip ... no information in return for her school project.

Hi,
I am interested in any info for the last name Paradice, which is my mother's maiden name. We don't know much about her grandfather other than the fact that his name was Samuel Isaac Paradice. My great grandmother ran away with him to Spokane Washington (she was from Pacific Grove California). We think this may have happened in 1902-06? WE think he, Samuel Isaac was a traveling salesman.

Does the name Samuel Isacc ring any bells. Also, we think he may have come form either Canada or Louisiana.

If you have any information or could point me in the right direction, I should be very grateful.
Thanks,
Maureen

Hopefully someone will be able to help me out.

In regards to this post, I have additional information, I think.

Harvey Wade Paradise had a sister named Alice.

Alice Marie Paradise is my GGrandmother.

She married James Murphy, my GGrandfather.

My Grandfather was Clarence Murphy.

I am confused on the Tennessee Paradise connection.
Rose Ann Paradise –
1.) From family, she was born October 12, 1886 in MA around Boston and her family was from Canada (French Canadian from Quebec?). She had a sister named Eva who married a Schieman (sp?) and got divorced shortly afterwards which was a big deal in the early 1900s. She also had 4 brothers. She married Daniel Columbus Foley and moved to St. Louis, MO. I called her Nana and she was very short (in the 4’ height range). I also believe she had arthritis in her spine which caused her to bend over. She died November 29, 1977.
2.) According to the 1920 census, Rose’s father and mother were listed as both being Canadian. According to the 1910 and 1930 census she listed her parents as both French Canadians. She was born about 1887 in MA.
3.) According to the 1920 census there was a Thomas and Sophie Paradise living in Quincy, MA with 3 sons and their daughter Eva Sc???man with her two children’s last name being Schieman. They moved to the US from Canada in 1884.
I have Paradise's in my family line as well. The addition to the "E" on the end may be wrong.....

My G-G-G-Grandfather was James Paradise who married Demetilde LeValey. They had at least one child named Josephine Paradise who was born approx. May 15, 1858 and died July 30, 1907. Josephine Paradise married Norbert Faucher.

All of the above were from Canada, around the St. Thomas De Pierreville area in Quebec.

Does any of that sound familiar? I hope so.....

Hi, Karen!

I am an ARBOUR researcher with thousands of ARBOURs in my files. However, I do not seem to have a union between Jacqueline ARBOUR and Christian Joseph PARADIS (the "normal" French-Canadian spelling). I do have a number of Jacquelines who could be your mother, though. These women seem old enough to have borne a child in 1944 but not yet married. I don't have any of them living in Rimouski, QC, but that doesn't mean that they weren't. It also doesn't mean they didn't go to visit relatives and have a baby there.

I sure wish that I could be of more help to you. Have you checked the online adoptees registries?

Were you adopted as an infant? How did you get from Canada to NY?

I wish you the best of success!

Shannon
Mesa, AZ

The stories in the family are that her family moved to the US from Canada and Rose was born here. I have not been able to confirm the connection between Rose and Thomas. I also know that Daniel Foley's family came from Nova Scotia, I think in the same time frame.

My ggf, Wade Hamilton Paradise, listed his birthplace as near Lebbanon, TN, which would be in either Davidson or Wilson Co today. His parents and other relatives are unknown. He later moved to MO where he married and started a family. The family moved IL where my grandfather, William Francis Paradise, was born. I've heard of Paradise Ridge and I know there were a number of Paradise families around Nashville but I could never find a connection. I'd appreciate any information you may have.
Thanks, Kirk Paradise

Dear Glen:

Tonight, I just found some research notes I'd collected some 20 years ago and remembered you request for info. I need to transcribe the notes but to summarize: Phanny Paradise is the dau. of William Paradise (DOB abt. 1743; died 1832, Davidson Co. TN) and his wife (name unknown). Phanny was the 5th child of William's first marriage. Phanny married Stark Lewis. William married his second wife, Elizabeth Stuart, apparently in a double ring ceremony as both he Phanny married in Sumner Co., TN on 17 Nov 1808. The reference for this is Sumner Co Marriage Records, p.286. I date William's DOB becuase in a newspaper obituary, published 30 Aug 1832, I noted (Title of book: Obituaries from Early TN Newspapers, 1794-1851) said he was "89" The other children were Parker Paradise, DOB 1795, Nancy P. (married a Miller), John P. and Rachel P. The 1832 will also mentioned a grand daughter, Letty Ages, but did not mention her parents. (Could be Rachel's dau) I could find no record of any children from William's marriage to Elizabeth Stuart.

I descended from Wade Hamilton Paradise (b. 1822 Davidson Co. TN, d. 1882, Mahaska Co. IO, Civil War veteran) and Sarah Broyles (b. Mar 1832, Posey Co IN, d. May 1915, Clay Co. MO) I have visited the state archives in Nashville plus the county seats in Dividson, Wilson other counties but was unable to find Wade's parents. I found several other Paradises there. Would you like that info? I presume that Wade descended from John Parker Paradise who arrived in TN via NC from VA but I just can't find the link. Wade served in the Union Army and, perhaps, his family disowned him. This is my speculation because there is no mention of it in the family.

Thanks for your reply, it would be great to receive the family tree you have as I have very little to go on at the moment. The asset I do have though is that I live within about forty minutes travelling distance of Wiltshire. Hope to hear soon.

Regards Denise Westall
