Re: pa. family

My Great Grandfather John James McGrath (born in NY)possessed a photo sent to him of Charles E Park dated 1911 with the inscription "to Uncle J J McGrath from cousin Charles E Park age 19". I have this in my possession. My G Grandfather also had his address as 432 Race St Harrisburg PA which agrees with Census records I have researched.
I have just obtained records from the Diocese of Harrisburg and these show the parents of Charles Edward Park as John H Park Sr and Mary Ellen McGrath. Charles was born in Harrisburg 10 June 1892 and died 2 February 1972 and is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery Harrisburg. The 1860 census has Mary's family as McGraw, however in 1850 the family are of James McGrath and his wife Ester age 39. My email is gerryd@squirrel.com.au and I live in Australia. I can share further information with you if you like.

Reduced price for DNA testing

As group administrator of the Park/e/s DNA surname project, I’d like to pass along news about a limited-time price reduction for DNA testing from our testing firm. Unfortunately, we receive very little or no advance word of these promotions, so as you can see the limited time price reduction begins today and only runs to June 24th, 2009.

Offer summary:

• Y-DNA37+mtDNA for $119. (The regular project price is $248 – a reduction of more than 50%)
• The promotion will begin on June 9, 2009 and will end on June 24, 2009
• Kits ordered in this sale must be paid for by June 30, 2009

If you have been considering Y-DNA testing for your Park/e/s line, this is an excellent opportunity to get a 37 marker test at a greatly reduced price, and I would urge you to order before the deadline. If you have any questions about Y-DNA testing for genealogy, or the order process, feel free to email me at: kenparks@earthlink.net

To order a test and join the Park/e/s DNA surname project:
http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Parke
Yes! I'd love more information about the Park family. Orlena was the first wife of my great grandfather (Harrison O'Hara). I've always wondered what happened to their daughter, Florinda O'Hara. I know she married a James Swift and they had at least one daughter, Minnie Swift. I see an Effa Swift as a ward of Hiram Baker in the 1880 census, but then lose track of them all after that.

Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Sally

Hi, I am a direct decendant of Mungo Park on my Mother's side. I took her to Selkirk and his home area for her 80th birthday and that was such a thrill for both of us. We didn't have enough time for me to find the family tree in the archives in Edinburgh but I tried. I've always been interested in his history and just how Mother was related. She was a Park from Vinton, Iowa and had two sisters. If you ae at all interested in any of my family history I would be happy to share it with you.

Barbara Bancroft Seligman PinkBarbi@aol.com

Columbus Park

I am looking for information on a Columbus Park b. abt 1883 possibly in Virginia. The 1910 Census shows him living in Madison, Texas with his daughter Lily, who was married to John Washington Evans. At the 1920 Census John and Lily had moved to Wilson, Oklahoma and Columbus is no longer on the Census. Columbus Park might have been some kind of law officer. Later in her life, Lily said she was afraid of him.

obit for Adella LeBaron Park, born 1868 Illinois, died 1932 Kansas

Minneapolis Messenger, Ottawa County, Kansas, June 9, 1932, page 2:
MRS. ADELLA LeBARON PARK
Mrs. Adella LeBaron Park, 63, died suddenly at 4:15 last Wednesday afternoon of apoplexy. She was about the home at 851 South Fifth street Salina, as usual all day. Suddenly she complained of a strange feeling, and in a few seconds she was dead.
Mrs. Park, who had lived in Salina for the past ten years, was a native of Illinois, where she was born October 26, 1868. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Solon LeBaron, pioneer residents of Ottawa county. Before moving to Salina, Mr. and Mrs. Park lived for many years on their farm between Ada and Tescott.
Mr. Park died about five years ago.
The immediate family includes two daughters, Velna F. Hess and Della V. Park, of Salina. There are three sisters, Mrs. Alta Lehr, Muskogee, Okla.; Mrs. Nora Rhodes, Vernon, Tex.; and Mrs. Zula Wymer, Pittsburg.
The body was taken to the Salina Funeral Home and rested there until Friday when the funeral was held at 1:30 o'clock at the First Christian church of which Mrs. Park was a member. Rev. L.A. Brumbaugh, the pastor, was in charge. Interment was in the family plot in the Ada cemetery.
