KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Shirley Jean Parkes, 50 of Kirksville, Mo., died Tuesday, Aug. 29, at her home.

Services will be at Fohn Funeral Home in Kirksville. The Rev. Bob Shaffer will officiate. Vocalist will be Dawn Shaffer accompanied by Cheryl Newland. Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville. Pallbearers will be Dr. Kent Blanke, Dr. Mark Reiter, Andy Middleton, Mike Richardson, Greg Larsen and Gary Baxley.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and can be mailed to Fohn Funeral Home, Kirksville, Mo., 63501.

Mrs. Parkes was born on Oct. 12, 1949, in LaPlata, Mo., the daughter of Lewis Edgar and Betty Lorraine Graham O'Haver. Her first marriage was to Everett Knight Sr. She married Terry Parkes on Feb. 24, 1995, in Kirksville, Mo., who survives.

She received her education in Muscatine and LaPlata public schools. After her marriage she lived in Muscatine, working various jobs, including a position as a certified nurses aid at Bethesda Nursing Home. In 1990 she returned to Kirksville and was employed at Manor Care Center and NEMO Senior Citizens Inc. until her health failed. Her hobbies included genealogy and collecting salt and pepper shakers. She was a brave lady and loved her family very much.

Survivors include her mother, Betty Knight of Kirksville; two sons, Everett Knight Jr. and Chad Knight of Muscatine; a daughter, Trisha Knight of Muscatine; four brothers, John Luther O'Haver and his wife, Raelyn, of LaPlata, James Edward O'Haver and his wife, Cheri, of LaPlata, Donnie O'Haver and Vernie O'Haver of Kirksville; two sisters, Karen Salsberry and her husband, Eddie and Brenda Holloway of Kirksville, Mo.; three grandchildren, Nathaniel Wallace, Trey Knight and Lindsey Knight of Muscatine; mother-in-law, Betty Strong of Muscatine; two step-sons, David Knight of Las Vegas, Nev., and Dennis Knight of Nevada; two step daughters, Mindy Parkes and Debbie Kemper of Muscatine; two step-grandchildren, Terry and Jeff Hillagoss of Muscatine; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father; a brother, Gary O'Haver; her father-in-law; and two step-grandchildren.
