Dear Michael,
Richard Parkin from Roche area Cornwall, came to SA as an ordained Baptist(I think) minister, married my g aunt, Jean Jamieson Wylie in about 1862 or so, had son Ernest and a daughter in Adelaide then returned with his family to Cornwall or Devon about 1866 where they had son Alfred or Albert. The son of one of those boys also Albert or Alfred returned to SA and that I think is who you are descended from.
Sorry I am so vague, I researched all this quite thoroughly about 6 months ago and can't find my notes at the moment. If I don't find it, I'll do it again using census info as I did before.

There is a Parkin family tree on Ancestry which I found under my gg grandfather's name David Wylie. You must be related to the owner of this tree. He is a dentist living (I think) in NSW. I have asked him (on Ancestry messages) to contact me but he obviously hasn't checked his site lately.

HI There,

I know this is a very late reply, but I am the great-great-great-great granddaughter of John Parkin who settled in Port Elizabeth with the 1820 settlers. There is a book written about our family, and my Gran is the last mentioned person.

My John Parkin, a dock labourer, was born in Hull to John and Elizabeth Parkin, circa 1849. He married Jane (sorry not Ann) Elizabeth Stephenson in 1870 in Sculcoates. They had seven children, Sarah, George, Walter, Elizabeth, Henry, Emily and John, all born Hull. My connection is with the Stephensons.

My GGG Grandfather Charles, the subject of this thread, had a younger brother John William b about 1850 in Hull. I see there is a marriage between a John Parkin and Elizabeth Ann Greensmith 18 Sept 1881, in Wombwell, Yorkshire. Are you descended from John and Elizabeth? If so we are distant cousins. I have two generations back from Charles and John. Would love to hear from you further.

I have a feeling that the Parkins in my family may have started in the Yorkshire area,then Durham My Grandad was born to a John Robert Parkin and Edith Mary Smith and at the time they were living at Horden Colliery Shotton.I assume they were mining people.
My grandad William a Ethel Todd and lived in Sunderland but they moved to London I think in the 1940s.

My Grandad passed away in 1975. I dont have ery much more information except for a couple of addresses,they MAY tally with some you may have.BUT there are a lot of Parkins as you have probally found out.

I am trying to find a Joseph Parkin that was born in Tow Law Durham England in 1843, he had a son named William Parkin born 1867 and WIlliam had a wife named Caroline and they had a few children including a Joesph Parkin. I am just now starting on this tree. I am looking for anyone who may know anything about any of these people. If anyone here has any information on these people then I have more info I can give out. Just looked at Ernest Parkin's marriage. He married Pheobe Foster Q2, 1910 in Dewsbury, Yorks. Since he would have been born 1880 - 1890, I guess my George (b 1876) was not his father.

Alice Parkin and James Craven, Yorkshire, England and NY

LDS records from Yorkshire England show that James Craven married Alice Parking 24 Dec. 1827 at Bubwith. Also Alice Parkin was born to John and Sarah Parkin and christened 13 April 1800 at Thornhill by Dewsbury.
While looking for records for my great grandmother Martha Craven, I found a christening record for Martha 20 May 1831 with parents James and Alice. This at Barmby on the Moor. This appears to be my Martha as she was born 9 May 1831.
The family came to Wayne Co. NY in 1834.
Does anyone connect with Alice? I would like to confirm that the above Alices are all the same person.

This is where my Grandad was born 18 August 1902 sub district Wingate,Reg.District EASINGTON,COUNTY DURHAM.
John was a Colliery sinker? slinker? This is information on WILLIAMS' Birth cert.

William married ETHEL TODD April 5th 1926 at St Ignatius the Martyr Sunderland
Ethel lived at 30 Henry Street,Sunderland.England.
William and Ethel had 5 children..EDITH,WILLIAM(billy),OLIVE
ROSE MARY(my mum) and DOREEN...All accept Doreen were born in Sunderland.
I would love to hear anything from anyone who may identify with William and Ethel (Nana and Grandad)OR John and Edith(smith) PARKIN and any of the info I have written.

I too have Parkins in my family,my Mothers side.
My Grandfather,born August 1902,was born to A John Robert Parkin and Edith Mary Parkin Formerley Smith.
My Great Grandfather was a Colliery 'sinker'I assume at Horden Colliery as that is what is on my Grandfather Williams,birth cert.(3 Front Rows Horden colliery Shotton).
My Grandfather married an Ethel Todd April 5th 1926 at that time my Grandad was a miner and lived at 30 Henry st Sunderland/Durham
I have a living Aunt who remembers a family member who was a Preacher and I think he lost a daughter to a house fire,we may have got a bit muddled but there was definatly a methodist/Baptist/quaker connection wether.I dont know any more at this point ,but if you could help me that would be brilliant.
my Grandfather had siblings,,notsure how many,I know one was named Rose as she was a Great Aunt.

Frank Parkin was my grandfather's father even though my grandfather took his mum's maiden name, Roberts. I know only Parkins who are Frank's siblings and parents.

That might be possible. I think our Eva is short for Evangeline and Lily (Lilian) possibly died leaving her children in the care of her mother.

My great grandfather, Henry Parkin, was born in England, approx. 1844. This could have been his brother possibly but I do not have any information other than the entry document I found when they arrived in the country. Unfortunately, my father doesn't remember enough to help me in my search.

I too am researching coal-mining Parkins from Durham County. The George I am researching was born in approximately 1831 and is the son of William (according to George's marriage certificate). On the cert, George married Elizabeth Ramshaw (dau. of George Ramshaw) in April 1861 while they both resided in New Durham.

I believe this may be the same George and Isabella listed in the 1881 Census on Helmington Row, Durham. There, George's birthplace is listed as Crook, Durham, England.

The only George, son of William, I have been able to locate in Durham Co. during the 1831 timeframs was Christened in 3/4/1831 in Lamesley (just north of Crook) and the parents are listed as William and Margaret.

I have some Parkin relations in the Durham area as well. My grandmother, Eva Parkin, was born in 1901 to a John Thos Parkin (b 1856). John's father, Archbold, was born in 1828. Any connections?

My grandmother was Ethel Parkin born 1894 in Bishop Auckland to a family of coal miners and grocers. I couldn't actually connect with any of the names on your list but there may be a link. Other surnames on my tree ore the Waltons of St Helen's Auckland, the Lintons, Lunns, Copelands? Ring any bells?

The George listed as being born to William and Margaret is in my tree. However, he married Jane Owens, he was a watchmaker (m 3 Mar 1859 Lamesley, Durham, England).

I'll keep an eye out with links to other Parkins.

I don't think there is a match with my Parkin family (father is James W Parkin mother Sarah Parkin) and I don't have a suitable Thomas born 1903. However, I wonder whether the families named their children in common as Eva and Lily are not paricularly common names.

My G-G-Grandparents were Kirby & Mary Parkin. They are buried in Coloma Cemetery, Coloma, WI. Their Son Thomas Wm Parkin was my G-Granddad and his daughter Mabelle Loretta (Parkin)Brown was my Grandmother. Thomas is buried in Coloma also. Is Henry C. Parkin related to Kirby & his son Thomas? Were Kirby and Henry brothers or Thomas and Henry brothers?

Frank Ewart Parkin was my great grandmother's brother. There were 5 children, he was the only boy, all born in Sheffield between 1873 and 1887. The girls names were Annie, Ada (my gt grandmother), Bertha and Hetty. Parents were Willim Henry Parkin and Alathea Foulstone. I have further info if you would like me to e-mail it.

Hello - Just came across your query on the Parkins of Barrow Upon Humber Lincolnshire England. It was an old thread so maybe you have found what you required. My Tree does list the Parkins. John William Parkin did marry Sarah Goulthorpe.

I'm researching my Parkin family in Durham too!

My grandad Thomas Parkin born in 1903 has sisters with the names that you mention - Eva, Lily, Ethel amongst others.

I know his father was Robert Parkin, born in Evenwood and was a coal miner however I can't trace him any further back as it appears he was an orphan by the age of 7 in the 1881 census.

These Parkin's moved from Durham to Bradford.

Are these the same Parkins you are looking for?

Born in Belper Nov 1883 but moved to Barnsley.Wed Mary Ann Woodward in 1904 and produced two children. Elsie and Doris. Fought in Somme, died 25 Sept 1916. Apparently records of military service destroyed.any information from relatives about this person or any other ancestor would be appreciated.
