Your husband's father's name was Edward Parks. He is my father's cousin.

Edward Parks married Doris Scot (only one 't'). They had four children. I have listed from oldest to youngest: Robert Parks married Joanne Livingston. They had 5 children: Robert, Barbara, Joyce, Steven, and David. Edward and Doris second child was Donna Parks and James Wood. They have 3 childre: Debbie, James, Margaret. The third child of Edward and Doris was Eddie (Edward) Parks. His first wife's name was Kay Smith. They had 2 children. I don't know their names. His second wife was Linda. Eddie and Linda had 2 children. The last of Edward and Doris was Freddie Parks. He married Rosie Price and they had no children. All of these attended my wedding in 1974. Doris Park lived in an apartment building that I managed. Feel free to contact me at htinney@aol.com

In numerous places on the internet, a marriage date and place is shown for Joel Parks (1761-1850) & Chloe Foster Parks (1764-1832)as 31 Oct 1784 Ballston Center, Saratoga Co., NY. However, I can not find one verifiable reference for this marriage anywhere. Does anyone know where actual proof of this marriage might be found?

Allen Parks-Flesherton, Ontario-Orangeville news article from 1906

Thursday, April 6, 1906

The charred body of Allen Parks was found in the ruins of his burned house, about four miles from Flesherton, Wednesday morning of last week. A batchelor, deceased was known to many Shelburne people, and was a brother of the well-known bandmaster, Joe T. Parks.

His revolver, which he had accused an Italian named Patrick with stealing Tuesday afternoon, was found in the roadway opposite his barn, with one chamber out of a full five discharged. Blood marks in the trampled snow from this point to the front gate of his home were traced by neighbours. They were lost in the muddy surroundings of the ruins.

Parks' body, when found, was lying flat on its back with the head crushed in, as if from a frightful blow. The charred remains of several hundred dollars in bills were found on the body and more in a corner of the ruins.

Neighbours are firm in the belief that he was shot outside his home, dragged into it and the house and body burned to hide the deed. The county Crown attorney, now at Owen Sound, will call on provincial authorities to investigate the death.

On Thursday, a coroner's jury rendered the following verdict: "The jury say that Allen Parks came to his death on the night of March 27th by being burnt in his dwelling house, which on said night was destroyed by fire, and the jurors are of the opinion that there were circumstances in connection with the fire which lead to the conclusion that said death may not have been caused by accident or natural causes."
Samuel Parks and Mary Minerva Cornelison

Looking for information concerning the parentage of Mary Minerva Cornelison, cited to be the mother of George Washington Parks and wife of Samuel Parks in the "Families of Falls County", Compiled and Edited by the Falls County [Texas] Historical Commission. The article states that both Samuel and Mary were born in North Carolina, married in 1812 in North Carolina, and lived most of their lives in Franklin County, Tennessee, and that Mary died in 1836. No other information has been located concerning Mary.

My greatgreatgrandmother is Abigail Parks (married William A. Lawson 1851, Grundy County, TN), a daughter of Samuel Parks, and according to my records, Abigail Sumner, daughter of Jethro Sumner and Martha King of NC and VA. I am relying on an article in The National Genealogical Society Quarterly, Volume 1085, 1600s-1900s,
Volume 81, Finding Truth in a Family Tradition: Sumner Antecedents of Demsey S. Goodman, by Helen F. M. Leary.

Are George Washington Parks and Abigail Parks brother and sister? The Falls County article states that several of George's siblings ended up in Texas, some before and some after the War. Abigail and her husband moved to Texas before 1860 and are listed in the 1860 Cherokee County, Texas, census.

I need some help on this one - THANKS.

Rosa Parks is her married name. Will need the oldest "Parks" you know of; your grandfather or great grandfather. About when he was born and where he was born, who he married and where and when. If you can get back before 1929 that would be great. You have some questions to ank your relatives. You need to buy a "Genealogy Program" to keep all the information you collect on along with where you got the information (sources). You can't possibly keep all the data you collect in your head and the program will keep everything organized for you. If you lose interest, the data you collect will be there 10 or 20 years later.

Would love information from your family Bible especially if it can be scanned so I can see the handwriting. I have some good records on the Parks'if you need any information. Do you know where Williamson and Martha Camp Parks are buried. I have Flowery Branch but when I look up Flowery Branch Cemetery I do not get a driect hit. Susan Hynson

Re: Hotel in Cloverdale

I have a Cloverdale 100th Anniversary Booklet and couldn't find the name Munn listed in the businesses. I see the name Miller listed for you and wondered if you might have any info on Maria Parke/Parks who married a George Miller in 1864. They were living in Ottawa in 1870. After that, I lost them. I am hoping to find when Maria died and where she is buried. Any suggestions? Thanks!

In the Coverdale Anniversary booklet, under recent changes to the village in 1977 was this mention: addition of a neatly designed private garage on the premises of the old Cloverdale Hotel, now the home of Ellis and Grace (Miller) Diltz. That's it! You didn't mention when your Miller/Munn family might have owned it. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Elias Sharpe/Mary Proctor/John Parks/Mary Sharp – Part 1

It is unfortunate that the information on this family is largely undocumented, poorly researched, and in some cases blatantly fabricated. It is sad that this is handed down to future generations without any fact checking.

I am not a Parks researcher or a Proctor researcher. I am however, a Sharpe researcher and have researched the family of Elias Sharpe in order to eliminate him as a member of my family. The information below may help to eliminate the myths and generate some good research.

We first find Elias Sharpe in London, England when he is convicted of highway robbery. In today’s world he would have gotten a lecture and put on a year’s probation. However the English were dealing with a bunch of unhappy Scots and the much used solution was to pack them on a ship and send them to America as indentured servants.

“Elias Sharp, Violent Theft > highway robbery, 13th October 1725.

Reference Number: t17251013-37
Offence: Violent Theft > highway robbery
Verdict: Guilty
Punishment: Transportation

Elias Sharp , was indicted for assaulting Hannah Bignell on the Highway, putting her in Fear, and taking from her a Pair of Leather Breeches, val. 7 s. 6 d. the Goods of Edw Harrison , Oct. 11 .

It appear'd that Hannah Bignell (a Child ) was on a Moon-light Night going over Tower Hill with a Pair of Breeches under her Arm: The Prisoner snatch'd them from her; and being closely pursu'd, upon her crying out, he threw the Breeches into Tower Ditch; but he was presently stopt, and the Breeches taken up again. Guilty of Felony. Transportation .

Elias Sharp, Violent Theft > highway robbery, 13th October 1725.

Why do I say that this is the Elias Sharpe who married Margaret Proctor?

1.	I have researched the northern neck counties of Virginia for the past year. This research consisted of in depth study of King George county. I can find only one Elias Sharpe.

2.	The article below deals with William Longmire. I shamelessly copied it from a
Longmire researcher.

The rest of the story is quite fascinating. As I had mentioned in the general query section, William Longmire was sentenced to death yet somehow managed a reprieve and was given a 14 year indenture to be served in the American colonies. He was transported by Captain Charles Whale on the Rappahannock Merchant and arrived at Port Royal 6 months later, right in the heart of the Northern Neck area of Virginia. To which plantation owner he went we don't know. However, it's apparent that he was released from his indenture approximately 3 years early. Shortly thereafter William was called as a witness in a 1737 court case, then later is found to be witnessing many deeds and several wills, also appraising estates in King George Co, Va into the early 1740's. How this change in fortune came about is still unknown, however it's quite apparent that William was trusted by respected members of his community. Later still he is found to be working for Captain Edward Dixon, a merchant who had ties to London, Bristol, and Glasgow. William is also found to have served on several juries at the K.G. Co Courthouse. Of interest is the fact that Edward Dixon's father-in-law was Col Thomas Turner II, a very large landowner and Clerk of the Court for K.G. Co - a very prestigious position in those days. William's entries for credit, money exchanges, and merchandise are well documented and are held in Washington, D.C. at the Library of Congress as part of the Edward Dixon Papers. Many examples of is fine penmanship, as well as that of his signature where her actually receives items for Col Turner can be found there.

Not too bad for a fellow convicted for stealing a gentleman's hat ... yet the story doesn't end there.

Mlongmire

For those not familiar with the northern neck counties; Port Royal is in present day Caroline County. Caroline counties borders Spotsylvania to the west and King George and Stafford to the north.

This story is much to long to try and finish in one sitting so I will close it and continue it with a part 2.

Elias Sharpe/Mary Proctor/John Parks/Mary Sharp – Part 2

When we left off, Elias was delivered to Port Royal in present day Caroline County to begin his indenture. We next find him in Spotsylvania County.

Virginia County Records SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY 1721-1800
DEEDS
DEED BOOK C 1734-1742
page 144
Augt. 2, 1737. George x Proctor, at this time of the County of King George, planter, to John Proctor and Elias Sharpe, both of Spts. Co. £100 ster. "that parcel of land whereon my father, George Proctor, did dwell at the time of his death. 436 a. in Spts. Co., on Hasel Run, residue and remainder undisposed of by my father and by myself since his death, of 1500 a., purchased by sd. father of Wm. Strother of King George; sd. 436 a. being designed by my father to be given to his son, John Proctor, one party to these presents, and his daughter, Margaret Proctor, wife of Elias Sharpe, the other party to these presents," etc. David Bronaugh, John Steward, James Strother, Jno. Hobby, Augt. 2, 1737

This deed also tells us that George Proctor Sr was living in Spotsylvania county at the time of his death and more important that Elias Sharpe was living in Spotsylvania in 1737.

This next deed follows the deed and property above and jumps us way ahead of the story of Elias but it fits here also.

Virginia County Records SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY 1721-1800
DEEDS
DEED BOOK F 1761-1766
page 242
June 3, 1765. George Sharp and Mary, his wife, of Spts. Co., to Thomas James of Fredksbg. £35 curr. 150 a. in Spts. Co., part of a tract of land devised by George Proctor, Decd., to his daughter, Margaret, who inter-married with Elias Sharp, father of the sd. George Sharp, who is eldest son and heir at law of sd. Elias, who dying intestate, whereby sd. land descended to the sd. George, party to these presents, etc. Witnesses, J. Lewis, Chs. Robinson, Geo. Stubblefield, Francis Taliaferro, John Chew. June 3, 1765.

Finally for Spotsylvania we find the deed of George Proctor Sr.

PROCTOR, GEORGE, St. George's Parish, d. Mar. 23, 1730-1, p. Aug. 7, 1738. Wit. G. Home; Joseph Parker; Matthew Giles. Ex. wife Mary and son-in-law Charles Steward. Leg. wife Mary my manor plantation; son George; son John, half the land I now live on, with the manor plantation when his mother dies; daughters Margaret, Mary and Elizabeth. (Page 193)

Now we can move on to King George County. King George County was formed from Richmond County in 1720!!! By now you should be raising some serious concerns about the folks who told you Mary Sharpe Parks was born in King George County in 1715.

The first we see of Elias in King George County is this document:

King George County Deed Book 2

pp. 294-295 Indenture made 4th March 1739 between WILLIAM THORNTON Brunswick Parish King George County Gent. of one part and ELIAS SHARP of same Planter .. In consideration .. Rents annually .. to farm let 100 acres .. on Rappahonnock River being part of land Thornton formerly bought of GEORGE PROCTOR and bounded .. River Bank .. land of JEREMIAH BRONAUGH the natural life of Elias Sharp and MARGARET his now wife .. or longest liver .. paying yearly on 25th December 830 pounds of Good Tobacco in one Cask .. except in year 1740 they are to pay nothing ..

Presence JOHN STEWARD, WM. THORNTON
JNO. HOBBY
DAVID BRONAUGH
ELIAS SHARP
At a court held 7th March 1739 .. Lease recorded.

Note that this land was formerly that land purchased from George Proctor. Also, the Rappahonnock River divides King George from Spotsylvania County. So Elias didn’t move very far from his previous home in Spotsylvania.

Finally we find that Elias has deceased and has left children. This of course means that Elias left more than one child. In fact he appears to have left three children with the names of Margaret, Elizabeth, and George. There is no record of any Mary Sharpe in King George records from 1720-1759.

King George County Deed Book 3

p. 188 Estate of ELIAS SHARP,
Dr - 1747 June 26, Pd Widdows Dower being one third of the Estate Ball. due Estate including the Negro woman Beck in the hands of RICHARD ELKINS .. 138.16.2
1747 - June 26, The widdow Sharp Delivered you .. We the Subscribers have stated and settled the Acc Depending between RICHARD ELKINS and ARON GRIGSBY in r\Respect to ELIAS SHARPS Estate and find the ballances as Expressed in the above accounts to be just .. 26th June 1747.

JOHN CHAMPS
SAMUEL DONNE
At a court held 3d Day July 1747 .. Settlement of Estate of ELIAS SHARP Deced recorded.

It appears that Margaret lost no time in finding a new husband in Aaron Grigsby. It was a matter of survival at that time in Colonial Virginia. A woman with small children had to find a husband and quick!

As I stated at the beginning; I am no Proctor researcher so I’ll leave it to others to give you that information. I will leave you with a few facts.

In 1722 Richard Bryant, Henry Gallop, Richard Elkins, and George Proctor or any three of them are appointed to inventory and appraise the estate of William Lampton.

Finally, the last of George Proctor in King George County (there are others items of George Proctor but this last one shows that he has moved back to Spotsylvania).

February 1729 King George Court Orders

George Proctor, Spotsylvania County, being summoned an evidence by Thomas Monteith against Jeremiah Bronaugh and Rose his wife admins with the will annexed of John Dinwiddie decd and making oath that he had come four times and attended eight days on the said suit, and it appearing that he lived 20 miles from the said court it is ordered that the said Monteith pay the said Proctor for the same and his ferriages for the same according to law. (page 485)

Now we know how close the Sharpe’s and Proctor’s lived to King George County.

One more note for the Proctor family. William Proctor (brother of George ?) continued to live for many years in King George.

Next we can deal with one of the children of Elias Sharpe. As we have seen from an earlier deed; George Sharpe is the son of Elias Sharpe. In King George County he first appears in this document:

King George Court Orders - 4 Sept 1747

It is ordered that George Sharp serve Richard Elkin till he arrive to the age of 21 years the said Richard is to learn him the trade of a carpenter and cooper and to pay him lawful free dues. (pg 545)

King George Court Orders 5 April 1751

George Morton, gent, is appointed guardian to George Sharpe having with ?Taliaferro gent entered into a bond in 100 pounds for the same. (page 713).

King George Orders 6 August 1752

George Morton, guardian of John Sharpe presented in court an account against said orphan’s estate which being examined and allowed by the court and sworn to by the said George was ordered to be recorded. (page 94).

Given the information above, George would have been born after 1731 and probably around 1735.

Next we can discuss the two probable sisters of George Sharpe. As I mentioned earlier I have researched King George County long enough and extensively and I know the Sharpe families who lived there. Other than the children and grandchildren of Mary Linsfield Sharpe Knight and the family of Elias there were only William Sharpe (time period of 1722) and Thomas Sharpe (time period of 1728). I think these are the Sharps from Westmoreland County.

The next Sharpe child to appear is Elizabeth. I first thought that she was from my family but based on the fact that Margaret Proctor Sharpe Grigsby was bounding out George, it appears that this too is one of her children.

King George County 5 June 1755

Ordered that Elizbeth Sharpe be bound to Jael Reeds according to law. (Page 524)

That’s all there is and nothing else to go on except the name Jael Reeds. She was originally Jael Shippey who married William Underwood and then Samuel Reeds. You will find connections to Richard Elkins through these families.

Next we find a Margaret Sharpe in this document:

King George County 25 Sept 1755

John Nichols being committed to the gaol of co by a mittumus under the hand and seal of Thomas Jett gent justice of the peace for this county and charged with the felonious wounding and murdering of Margaret Nichols his wife, on hearing the evidence of Robert Johnson, John Tomkins, and Margaret Sharpe the court are of opinion that he be sent to the general court for trial and it is ordered that he be remanded to the gaol from whence he came and thence as soon as conveniently may be to the public gaol in Williamsburg. (page 566).

I realize this isn’t much to go on. The name Margaret would probably indicate that he was the oldest child of Margaret Proctor Sharpe. Again, these two girls are an educated guess and not gospel.

The marriage records of Brunswick Parrish did not survive and so it difficult to go much deeper. There are a couple of Sharpe marriages in Overhorton Parrish but I don’t think they fit Elias Sharpe.

Finally from Spotsylvania I think George Sharpe (who probably was the father of a son named Elias) moved to Kentucky along with many others of Spottsylvania County.

Now we get to the Parks/Park/Parkes of King George County. A thorough study of these Parks names (including the above variations) for King George County Deeds, Wills, and court orders for the period 1721-1759 reveals of total of two. One is a William Parks mentioned in a March 5, 1735 court order. The other is a George Park on March 3, 1748. That’s it!!! Each mentioned only once.

Looking at the Parks genealogies posted on the internet is almost comical. Many of the children are listed as having been born in King George County. Obviously this information was wrong and had no basis in fact.

Other Parks genealogies have children born first in Virginia, then North Carolina, then back to Virginia then back to North Carolina, then to Georgia and then back to North Carolina. Near as I can figure John and Mary lived on a pair of roller skates.

The most unusual and unbelievable thing about the genealogies is that the children are given an exact date of birth. This even includes Mary Sharpe. I have done genealogies and over 35 years and have seen more family histories than I care to remember. However, I have never seen a 250 year old history with exact dates for each member of a family even close to that large. There is little doubt that these birthdates and a lot of other facts were pulled from a Magic Hat. I hope someone will prove me wrong by posting the source of these birthdates. And please don’t tell me they were from a family book which got soaked in a creek while crossing it on horseback.

In closing, I hope someone with a serious desire to sort this family out will come forward. My interest in the Parks family is Mary Sharpe, daughter of Mary Linsfield Sharpe Knight. I would like to connect her to John Parks and will work with anyone who would like to cooperate in finding the truth. I usually answer my emails promptly and can be reached at jimhmaddox@msn.com.

I am the ggreanddaughter of James Hull Parks, who was the brother of "Uncle Whit" and "Uncle Rush" as my mother (Jennie Parks Sloan) called them. My mother was the daughter of John Williamson and Eula Cruce Parks. They lived in the Braselton, Hoschton, and Auburn areas. I've done considerable research on Martha Camp. According to that info, she and Williamson Williams are buried at Rose Hill cemetary in Winder.

Re: Parks Family-Maryland

My name is Diana, my maiden name is Parks. All growing up I was told by my father ( Kenneth Parks Jr.) and my Aunts and Uncles that we were originally from the Parks from Lutherville/Tim/Cockeysville area.

I know that my great grandfather was Charles G. Parks (born in Lutherville and his wife was Helen Miller) My Dad said something about some Parks' owning a golfcourse back in the day up there in Cockeysville and that they were buried in a church cemetary close to there with many other Parks. He said it was a church cemetary.

He said he went there many times as a kid because that is where his grandfather was buried. He said that he remembers it had a little white Chapel there and after some research I think it's Mays Chapel in Cockeysville.

Let me know if this is any help to you? I am trying to find out more about Charles Parks and his parents. Thanks!

nymore is the south end of bemidji.i think it was a seperate back in the 1800's but something about taxes and politics it became part of bemidji.there is one park in the area and two cemetaries a vocational college an elementary school, grocery store, bank, gas station, various businesses, two bar an grills, laundry mat and a few churches.its hard to find any history on nymore so i only know from living here and what my grandpa told me as a kid.i think starting with lake plantangenet the river runs through lake irvine and then into bemidji.i think.so nymore is actually in bemidji,mn.its just the south end of bemidji.

Re: I HAVE NO IDEA WHO MY ANCESTERS ARE

Hi
I hope you have got some answers to your questions.
I am new at this to but i have found a lot of information

the 1st thing you have to do is start a tree with your dad's last name and your mom's maiden name.

then you work backwards, search for information on your dad's parents and then search for the information on your mon's family, on who's side of the family is Rosa Parks supposed to be on, search that side of the family. It sounds like it might be your dad's side. Ask him for sure.
you may visit my tree to see how it works if you want.
