Mrs. Roanna Jackson
Her Death Occurs at One O'Clock To-Day
The death of Mrs. Roanna Jackson occured at her residence at the corner of Division and Center streets at 1 o'clock this afternoon. Mrs. Jackson had been suffering with rheumatism for the past six years and for the past year or more had the additional trouble of cancer, which ultimality caused her death. A few weeks ago she went to Chicago for treatment, but returned without improvement and much discouraged. She grew rapidly worse and on Thursday afternoon lapsed into unconsciousness and died this afternoon.
Miss Roanna PARMETER was born in China, Maine, April 16, 1839. On April 4, 1860 she was married to Augustus P. JACKSON at Lowell, Mass. They came west thirty years ago and lived for six years at Plover before coming to Stevens Point, where they opened a boarding house for railroad men and continued to run it until it was destroyed by fire on Monday, July 5, 1886, during a postponed Fourth of July jollification. Soon after the fire they moved to Waukesha, where they lived two years. They then returned to this city and built the residence Mrs. Jackson has been occupying. Mr. Jackson died September 14, 1892, from the revages of cancer. Mrs. Jackson has consulted the medical talant of Chicago, Minneapolis and Oshkosh, but the physicians of those cities were able to do nothing beyond what had been done by local doctors. She had a strong will and met her difficulties courageously.
She was the second child in the family of ten children of Mr. and Mrs. CALEB PARMETER, the later of whom died but a few weeks ago. She leaves two children, E. P. Jackson, who lives with his family on Minnesota Avenue and Miss Bessie, who has been her constant attendant during her illness. Her other relatives are her brothers, Walter and Orin PARMETER of this city, Seth of Plainfield, Allen of Fairfield, ME, Herbert and Alva of Ashland, and her sister, Mrs. A. J. Withee of Shakopee, Minn.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock from her late residence, Rev. A. S. Badger of the Presbyterian church, of which she was a member, officiating.
