Michelle, I am a descendant of a Parmeter and former newsletter publisher of the Pioneering Parmenters of America. Google the association--they have an excellent web site that explains the origins of Parmeter/Parmenter. If you have specific individuals you want to know about, let me know.
Obit - Oren [Orin] Parmeter 1847 - 1928

Oren was the son of Caleb & Hannah [Bragg] Parmeter

Stevens Point Daily Journal, November 1, 1928, p. 3, Obituary -

Oren Parmeter

Oren Parmeter, who came to Stevens Point shortly after the close of the Civil War, in which he served as a member of a Maine regiment for a period of two years, and who had been a resident of this city much of the time since, passed away at St. Michael's hospital at 11:20 Wednesday night. For nearly three years, he and Mrs. Parmeter lived at Wisconsin Veteran's Home, near Waupaca, but five weeks ago Mr. Parmeter's health became so poor that he was brought to the local hospital and the day after his arrival underwent a major operation. Because of advanced age and his generally weakened condition, the patient failed to rally and gradually declined until the end.

Mr. Parmeter was a native of Unity, Maine, born there 81 years ago on 22nd of September and continued to make his home in the Pine Tree state until the early sixties when he enlisted for war services and took part in several engagements before being stricken with black measles. He was then given an honorable discharge. Sometime after his health was restored, the young sholdier was married at Bangor, Maine, to Miss Elzura Stone, the couple going to Massschusetts where Mr. Parmeter secured work in a lumber mill. While thus employed, he met with an accident that nearly cost him one of legs. When his wound healed sufficiently, Mr. and Mrs. Parmeter came to Wisconsin and for a brief time were located in Stevens Point. They then moved to Wausau, living in that city for more than ten years. In 1876 they came back here and practically all the time since, the family home had been at 524 Church Street.

During the earlier years of his residence in this city, Mr. Parmeter operated a grocery store on South Division street, the present Cutting and Lang stand. He owned this property and other valuable holdings throughout the city.

Besides his widow, who is in very poor health, he leaves two daughters and a son, Mrs. J. A. Versen, of Sherveport, Louisiana, Mrs. J. F. Chynoweth of Calumet, Michigan, and Oren Parmeter Jr. of Eldorado, Arkansas. The son and his wife reached Stevens Point last night, a couple of hours after the passing of his father. The deceased also leaves one brother, Alva Parmeter of Minneapolis.

Rev. C. H. Phillips, assisted by Rev. James Blake will conduct services at Boston Funeral Home at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon. Intermet will then be made in Forest cemetery. Friends are requested to omit flowers.

Albert Leslie Parmeter

Am looking for infomation on Albert Leslie Parmeter who was born in a town in Vermont but I am not sure of its spelling. Chadagee ( near Lake Placid, New York) in 1884.
He eventually moved to Connecticut where he worked in Norwich mental institution as a nurse. It was there that he met and married hs wife, Maybelle Casey. Shortly after their marriage they moved to York, Maine where they opened a nursing home which they called The Parmeter Home for Guests which ran for many, many years there.
Their only child, a son, Albert Leslie, Jr. was born in 1915 and died very tragically of polio in 1928. Because my mother worked in their nursing home they came to look on my twin brother and I as the grandchildren they never had.
Having worked a great deal on my genealogy and that of my husband, I have always said I would try to find all I could about Bert to honor him and I am finally getting around to doing so. ( Maybelle's Casey genealogy has been pretty well documented by her grand nieces.)
I do know that his parents were divorced and she married again and became a Brown but since I always called her Mrs. Brown I do not know what her first name was. Also, Bert had a brother named Eddie ( Edwin or Edward). This is just about all that I know but I hope that some one will be able to help me.
Sincerely,
Caryl McIntire Edwards

Freeman Parmeter removed from NY about 1840/41. His father purchased land in Jackson Co. MI in 1841, and was probably deceased by 1843. I have only located Elijah Parmeter on the 1830 census of Monroe Co. NY. I checked my database for Bert and did not find any record of him.

Parmeters

Hi Jenifer,
Seems that there are a fair number of
Parmeter's in the Wisconsin area as well.
Would be interested in information on the
reunion, as I know that there is documentation
concerning the Parmeter's that is recorded at
the State Historical Society - here in the Madison,
Wisconsin area. Talked to gentleman in the Milwaukee,
Wisconsin area, whose wife did a lot of research on
the family. Beernicks, is believe, is the name.
Do you have the family crest as posted at the beginning
of the document "Nineteen generations of Parmeter's?
Have photo copy of it, but it's not a very good one and
would like to get it in color. Also interested in Alvah
M. Parmeter, b. abt 1866 in Unity, Main. I have different
information on him in respect to b. and d. ... Son of
Caleb Parmeter and Hannah Bragg. Alvah's wife's name was
Anne Mae Frikckson. Any help appreciated!!!
Please atay in touch. as this is the first time that I have
had the opportunity to talk to someone from the Parmater
family in California. Would like to maintain contact with
this area of the Parmeter's. Respectfully,
Dave Parmeter
P. O. Box 8
Cross Plains, WI.
53528
1-608-798-3281
Parmeters from Vermont

Seeking the parents of three Parmeters who I belive must have been brothers, all born a few years before 1800 in Vermont. They probably all moved to New York (one, at least, to the Albany area) before 1820, and in the years 1835-1837 moved to Jackson County Michigan. They and three younger Parmeters, probably sons, lived in adjacent Spring Arbor and Concord Townships in 1850.

Their names were David (my gr-gr-grandfather, whom I have just found), Cyrus, and Jesse Parmeter. David and Cyrus had wives, perhaps second wives, named Sarah (Sally). Jim

Jesse and other VT Parme(n)ters

Hi,
Jesse is listed in the Windsor VT 1800 Census. I thought that he might be related to my grX6grandfather, Joseph, who also lived in Windsor. From land records I was able to find the names of two of his other sons, Levi and Joseph. If the census is correct, he had many other sons and daughters, but I haven't been able to link to them as yet. Of course, there are other Parme(n)ters listed in the census in that area, but I did want to share what I have.
All the best in your search, Diane

This Aaron Parmeter can't be the same. My husband's Aaron according to the history book of Genesee County Michigan was born 31-Aug-1829 in NY, and I know he died in the county on May 28, 1909 and is buried in Mt. Morris, Genesee Co., MI. If you are sure your Aaron is buried in PA - can't be the same. Could be cousin or or relation though.

Thanks, Judy Stadler
