John Parr

I am searching for the origins of John Parr who was born approx 1833 and migrated to South Australia sometime before 1858 (he was married to a Jane Rowe James in Adelaide in 1858). On his marriage certificate it states that his father was Thomas.

We have been having a lot of trouble tracing his origins.

I have put the details I know of John Parr and his family on my website http://www.familytreeoz.com/parr-family-tree.html.

If you know of or have a John Parr in your family tree that maybe a match then I would love to hear from you.

I don't know but think it unlikely. Henry had at least 14 children, none of them named Albert. Henry was living in Penge in 1891 but in 1901 he was living in Bromley, London.

The Henry Parr you are referring to is the son of William Parr, engineer, and Jane Westbrook. He was born in Mansfield Rd, Nottingham, and later lived in Penge.

Hi Donna,
I realize I'm responding to an older post, but hope this message finds you.

My Parr family lived in Wabasha County at the time Thaddeus was in Plainview. Their homesteads were very close and I suspect they were related, but I've done little research beyond Civil War records. My Henry Joseph Parr lived there and most of his children were born there, the eldest marrying within the community, but moved away. Several of us are working seriously on the family and have amassed a fair bit oi data in 20+ years that I will share with you. -David

I may have info on this branch of the Parr's -- Lot of Parrs in the Franklin, New York area -- family came from Kingston, Rhode Island and Alburg, Grand Island, Vermont. Maybe your Thaddeus is part of the Franklin Parr's. I've always tried to connect them to the first Parr in America - Abel Parr - Freeman in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, about 1642. My line migrated from New York in the seventeenth century to New Jersey to North Carolina to Tennessee to Indiana to California. If there are any current day Parr men in your line curious enough to take a simple DNA test (mouth swab) and you match my line's DNA that would prove the Abel Parr connection. Do you know about the Parr DNA site?

Here's an on-line story about your family:

M. W. PARR.
M. W. Parr, the subject of this sketch, was born in Wabasha county, Minnesota, November 29, 1869, a son of Thaddeus Parr, born in Franklin county, New York, and Esther (Washburn) Parr, a native of Canada.
Thaddeus Parr was a farmer boy in Franklin county, New York, and, while still a youth, came West and located in Wisconsin. In 1862 he enlisted in Company G, Twentieth Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry. On December 7, 1862, this regiment was part of the army of the frontier and was engaged in the battle of Prairie Grove, or Fayettville, Arkansas, in which the Federal forces sustained the loss of a considerable number of killed and wounded. Thaddeus Parr was among those wounded in this engagement. He never sufficiently recovered from this wound to enable him to return to his regiment for active duty, and consequently was discharged after service as soldier for nine months. He returned home and some after the war he bought a farm in Wabasha county, Minnesota, and turned his attention to farming. He followed this occupation for thirty years and then retired from active work. He is now living in Owatonna, Steele county, Minnesota.
Mrs. Esther (Washburn) Parr was the mother of three children: M. W., Esther, who married L. W. Godfrey, and Catherine, who married Dr. G. A. Grove.
M. W. Parr was educated in the public schools of Wabasha county, Minnesota, and worked on a farm during his youthful years. Beginning in 1892 he was for five years employed as a clerk in a store, at Plainview, Minnesota. About 1897 he decided to turn his attention to agricultural pursuits. He went to South Dakota and located on a farm and was engaged in farming for fourteen years. In 1911 he disposed of his Dakota interests and returned to Minnesota, locating in Kenyon, Goodhue county, where he was engaged in the real estate business for three years. In March, 1915, he disposed of his business in Kenyon and came to Madelia. Here he opened up a hardware and implement store, in which business he is at present engaged.
Mr. Parr was married to Louisa M. Burgess. To this union three children have been born: Roland, Esther and Thaddeus.
Mr. and Mrs. Parr are members of the Presbyterian church. Mr. Parr is a Republican. His fraternal affiliations are with the Order of Foresters, and with the American Order of Woodmen.

Stephen S Parr and Harriet Melissa Crozier were parents of at least two sons: Silas Leonard and Frank L Parr. ancestry.com indicates two daughters from Frank L and wife Rebecca: Hattie and Nora. No obvious male descendants.

Backing up a generation to Jonathan and Polly - they were parents to five children according to one-line data and that includes three sons.

There are many additional descendants of this line, starting with Moses (1738-1806).

Some descendants have zero interest in genealogy or do not want to invest in DNA. Others have no tolerance for sharing family information on-line. We respect that.

Someday, we hope to find a male DNA tester from this line.

Bill Parr
You didn't mention dates and there are many possibilities. In an effort to assist you I tried to narrow it down and did find a potential clue. There is a Stanley Parr born in 1918 in Kentucky who's father was Oscar Parr born in 1883 in Kentucky. Same given names you are researching. Interestingly, Stanley had a brother named Printices - and another brother named Edward. Perhaps some sort of variation of Prince Edward?

Re: PARR - 1910 Census - Buckner Orphans Home nr Dallas, TX

This does not answer the question about why the children were in the orphanage at the time of the 1910 Texas census, but perhaps it was a temporary need. However, the following might provide helpful information.

Here is a link to a website that includes Texas death certificates 1890-1976.

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#...

Click on the map Canada, USA and Mexico, then scroll down to Texas deaths 1890-1976. I filled in the name Oscar Parr, then search, and found that his father was listed as Tommy J. Parr and his mother as Minnie Roberts. Oscar Clifton Parr was born 24 Dec 1902 and died 19 May 1965 in Eastland Co. TX.

I found that they also had a child, Truston Jackson Parr, whose death certificate listed his father as Tom Parr and his mother as Minnie Roberts. I was unable to find the Billie you mentioned. Perhaps this was a girl who later married?

When you find a name you want to look at, click on the image to the left of the name to bring up the death certificate.

Thomas J. and Minnie (Roberts) Parr were in Gonzales County Texas at the time of the 1900 census. Information on this family can be found at the rootsweb Search Family Trees. Information there indicates Thomas J. Parr died 1906 in Gonzales County.

Minnie was married again to a man whose surname was Ganow. In the 1930 Texas census Oscar Parr was living with them, although there is a wrong middle initial for him. Minnie’s death certificate can be found using the name Minnie Beatrice Ganow.

Unfortunately, although the death certificates are 1890-1976, many of the early ones are missing. I could not find one for Thomas J. Parr who died in 1906.

I don’t know what information you already had, but perhaps something in this will be helpful.

How very nice of you to add this to the Parr board. Gertie was my husbands aunt. She married Leslie Wallace and they are both buried in the Old Gorman Cemetery in Gorman. They never had any children..I am adding to your information and hoping someone out there is looking for it too. I find it so nice when people are not related but will still share. they are the best kind of researchers. Many thanks....Dani Parr

A bit late on this but I have an Agnes Parr (B:Abt 1806 D: 24 Jul 1848, Drumeague, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan) who married a Thomas Hall (B:Abt 1794, Drumeague; D: 11 Jan 1875, Drumeague). I have a limited interest in this Parr but I might be able to find a bit more on this Parr family by looking in my files here. There was a Parr witness I know to a wedding at the Glasleck Presbyterian Church, which is between Shercock and Bailieborough (close to Shercock)to a family related to my family.

So interested in your data on Parrs in Kinver. I was told as a child that Old Thomas was an ancient relative of mine and my relatives collected newspaper cuttings about him. One of them owns a candle snuffer said to belong to him. I have traced my tree back to a Stradfield Parr 1738-1788 in Reading Berks and further back to his ancestors all in Berkshire. I like you have been unable to make any connection with Robert in Kinver which seems the most likely link to Thomas.

All the best Ann

Re: Stephen S. Parr

As noted in response to the other reply, my mother made the original post. As far as we know, there are no living male descendants of Stephen S. Parr. Stephen had a younger brother who may have living male descendants. However, in that line I am only aware of one male descendant who died in 1964. If he had children, I do not have that information. Stephen also had an older brother who could have had children, but I have even less information on that line. Going back another generation, one would have to go to the siblings of Jonathan Parr for other potential lines.

I am interested in your belief about the early Parrs. I recall reading about a Ralph Parr who was thought to be the first Parr to come to America in the early 1600s. Proof of his connection to later generations, however, was lacking. Your explanation makes a lot of sense. I would appreciate hearing from you at silvershadowtwo@hotmail.com
