Hi Ashton, thanks for the reply. I vaguely remember Henry, he was my Dad's first cousin. I did know Amelia, Josie, Minnie and Cucita, Luis also. Other than the fact that Amelia mentioned her father Cipriano being born in Arizona I have no info on the Estradas. My Dad lived with them for a short time after his parents died, so he did keep in touch with them. His female cousins used to visit him and his sisters often. Sorry couldn't be of more help.
Hi Hilda,
I'm Ashton, Henry Estradas great grandaughter, he is the brother of Josie and Amelia. All the information that i have is from my nana Charlotte. She was much closer to her mothers side of the family after her death, when my nana was 13. So she gave me all the information she could. I don't have any information on the Ortega-Celayas, so i pleasantly suprised to see the post :D

Hi Tigerlily, I know we are related somehow. Amelia and Josie were/are my Dad's first cousins. I know both of them. When I was doing a lot of genealogy my husband and I spent a day at their house picking their brains. Can't tell you anything about Cipriano Estrado except that Amelia mentioned that her Dad, Cipriano, was born in Arizona and he never told them, they found out when they were older. That may be why you are having trouble finding info on him. Cipriano's wife, Ana Joaquina was my grandmother Bartola's younger sister. I do have info on the Ortega-Celayas, my grandmother's family and will be happy to share with you what info I have. Do you have any info on them? If you do you may have something that I don't have. I am curious as to where you fit in. You can e-mail me direct at ladyeliot@aol.com. All my family calls me Hilda.

I'm not sure if my family is related to yours but my GGGM was Louisa Parra. She immigrated to Tampa in 1882 and was married to Luis Garcia. The family eventually moved to Philadelphia as well. Louisa & Luis got a divorce as well and from what I understand, Luis went back to Cuba. They had 5 children; 3 sons named Rene, Roland, & Delio and 2 daughters named Urda & Beltha.

My connections to the Parra family are from Cuba as well. My GGGM was Louisa Parra and her husband was Luis Garcia. Louisa immigrated to Tampa in 1882. Several of her sons and relatives were cigar makers and they eventually made their way to Philadelphia. I was told someone on that side of the family owned a newspaper in Spain as well. Does this match anything anyone has?

Their parents were Juan Munoz Parra and Hermelinda Vasquez del Mercado. Not sure we are related since the Antonio that is related to me left El Paso in the late 1920's and was in Los Angeles by 1930. The census says he was single in 1930.

Rachel, I just saw your posting from 2000 regarding the Munoz Parra family and hope this reaches you. My name is Raul Munoz, my grandfather was Leon Munoz-Parra and he was an older brother to your grandfather Salvador . Their parents were Juan Munoz Parra and Hermelinda Vasquez del Mercado. The family was actually very large. Salvador had an older brother named Carlos and an older sister named Rosa. There were also younger brothers and sisters, Amador, Antonio, Margarita, and Juan. I have documentation on most of them, but very few pictures. As you probably know, Salvador was a photographer. Carlos was as well. I'm trying to find their descendants in the hope they have photos and we can connect further on the family history. I show that your grandfather died in Los Angeles. His mother, Hermelinda, is buried there as well.

Have found no new information on the Parras or the Ortiz-Parras. The Indian connection is on my Dad's side (his grandmother on his father's) after she died there was no new information on her other than her name. The Ortiz-Parra is on my Dad's mother's side and there is no Indian connection there. We can only go back to 1808 with the baptism records of a Diego Santiego Ortiz Parra. However there was no valuable information on the record. Hope that helps.

David Belardes, Discovered to be a Non-Indian

David Belardes, Discovered to be a Non-Indian, Misrepresents Juaneño Tribe in Initial Agreement with TCA to Support Proposed Toll Road

TCA, the Transportation Corridor Agency, is currently in discussions with David Belardes, as a “representative” of the Juaneño Tribe, to drop opposition to the agency’s proposed toll road in exchange for a reported $350,000. But, it turns out that David Belardes is not a Native Juaneño or even Indian and is not an enrolled member of the Juaneño Tribe. Belardes’ Non-Indian ancestry was reported by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of Federal Acknowledgement during the Tribe’s ongoing petition for federal recognition. Domingo Yorba, Belardes’ paternal great grandfather whom he based his ancestral claims on, was classified as a Non-Indian in the Department’s report, which is part of the public record (JBMI 84A Proposed Findings, U.S. Department of the Interior, 2007, pp. 247-252.). The genealogical and historical evidence demonstrates that both paternal great grandparents of David Belardes were in fact of Mexican and Spanish descent—not Juaneño or California Indian.

As many Southern California residents know, in February 2008, the California Coastal Commission denied a proposal by the Transportation Corridor Agency (TCA) to extend the Foothill-South Toll Road through southern Orange County. Members of the Juaneño Tribe and other residents expressed concern that the proposed toll road could disturb sacred Juaneño ancestral sites. The TCA has since discussed a potential agreement for support of the proposed toll road with David Belardes, a San Juan Capistrano resident who falsely claims to represent the Juaneño Tribe.

Hello My Father's family are Parra's from Sonora. They originated in small Sonoran towns such as; Altar, Caborca, Pitiquito and then some of them moved to San Luis Rio Colorado Obregon. I am first generation born in the United States from my Father's family. My Dad has a lot of family still in Mexico. He passed away but I am curious to know more about the origin of the Parra name/family.

Hi
I am currently working on my Parra ancestry and also trying to find my Juaneno bloodline through the Parra name. I am stuck and I am hopeing you might be able to help me find additional information.
Here's how I am linked to the Parra name. My grandfather is Frank James Lugo, married to Josefina Moreno (both deceased). Frank's father was Frances "Frank" James Lugo Sr., he was married to Walberg Marker (a Danish woman). Frances Lugo's parents were Blas Antonio Lugo and Sofia Charles. Blas is connected to Don Antonio Maria Lugo (a wealthy rancho owner), Sofia Charles was married twice (married also to Alfred Arguello (according the 1933 roll). Sofia's parents were Henry Charles and Carmen PARRA...Carmen's parents were Maria Antonia Del Castillo and Miquel PARRA....This is where I am stuck....
I recently found out that Carmen's brother Alejo Parra married a Juaneno woman....but I need to connect my bloodline through Carmen...
In addition, to my grandfather's link to the Juaneno's, I may have another link to the Juanenos through my grandmother Josefina Lugo...but I am not able to go as far back with her as I am with my grandfather..
Josefina's parents were Adelina Marie Celeya and Manuel Moreno....Manual's parents were Lucianna (?) PARRA and Frank Moreno....and Lucianna had a sister whose name was Dolores (Lola) PARRA....But that's all I have...
I was registered with the BIA as a Juaneno through my grandfather, so this is probably my best hope in finding a connection to the Juaneno tribe.
If you can help any way, please let me know.
Thank you in advance,
Charlene

I am pretty convinced that our family tree crosses in many places. Is it the Parra name that is the Indian connection?
I found this on the 1900 Selma Town, Fresno, CA US Census and I am hoping that someone can tie into this:

TRACA ALVISO: head of household FEMALE b June 1855 in CA mother/father b in CA MARRIED 24 yrs age 44

PENIL: son b June 1889 in CA
FRANK: son b June 1884 in CA
EUGENE: son b July 1890 in CA
LAWRENCE: son b August 1878 in CA
MARY: daughter b January 1883 in CA
FRED: son b March 1892 in CA
FRANCIS: daughter b October 1894 in CA
LIZZIE: daughter b June 1895 in CA
RETA: daughter b March 1882 in CA
PETE: daughter b February 1887 in CA

TRACA'S maiden name is HIGUERA. She married F. (FRANCISCO)Alviso---in ALAMEDA COUNTY in 1875 or 1876.
My ggrandmother was ISABELLE (Lizzie)she married CRUZ JOHN CERVANTES. She was born in LIVERMORE, ALAMEDA, CA as were EUGENE, LAWRENCE, MARY(she married unknown Felix (2 sons), had a child with ANTONIO PARRA (1 son), and unknown Dodson(?). Until I found this listing, I was not aware of any other siblings.
Re: PARRA FAMILY CONNECTION TO JUANENO TRIBE?

According to the Huntington Library Database (http://missions.huntington.org/BaptismalData.aspx?ID=27571), Maria Antonia Perfecta Trinidad Parra was baptised at San Juan Capistrano on 18 April 1821. Her parents were Antonio Parras from "San Juan de los Llanos en Nueva España", and Maria Dionisia of "Castillo, Mexico". Hope this helps.
