Hi Linda,

Yes, it is volume 47.

The Virginia Genealogical Society retains copyright for a year, so it is only available from them. Although they do not list vol 47 yet, they are already selling the issues.

Here is what I found on their web site:

Single issues are $5 a copy (four make up a volume). Postage for single issues is $2.50 for the first item and $1.00 each additional item. Members of the Virginia Genealogical Society receive a 20 percent member discount on these and other VGS publications.

When ordering, Virginia residents must add 5 percent sales tax. Make checks payable to the Virginia Genealogical Society. Credit card orders may be accepted by telephone or facsimile.

Forward orders to:

Virginia Genealogical Society
1900 Byrd Avenue, Suite 104
Richmond, VA 23230-3033
Oh, this is lovely! Thank you for updating the query. Now, my questions are (1) I assume the reference would be to Volume 47? and (2) Where can I get it? I did some websearching and it seems available copies only go through Volume 40, but I may have misunderstood.

My DAR membership is through my Parrott line, but I haven't worked on the research in some time.

Best regards,
Linda

mystery Parrott: Charles Parrott born 1839 in Lynn, Massachusetts

I'm at my wit's end with my ancestor Charles Parrott. I can't find his birth record in Lynn, Mass. even though I know his parents are Loring Parrott and Mary Brown and that he was born in 1839. I also can't figure out who he is married to: Annie Parrott (2nd marriage for her, father's name is Foss) or Anna Hadley (whose birth record I can't find). Can't find him in the 1870 census, nor in the 1900 census. He died in 1915 in Boston, Massachusetts. If anyone is familiar with this mystery Charles Parrott, please let me know. Thanks!

In the years since the original answer was posted, a wealth of information has accumulated (historical, DNA, etc) that indicates that this Francis was not related to the Maryland Parrott families. Also, Richard never had a wife Elizabeth Thompson, further precluding them as Richard's parents.

A detailed review of all the available information on Richard and other early Parrotts, including this Francis, has now been published, along with supporting evidence:

A re-examination of the relationships among the Parrott families of the American Colonies in the 17th century.
Hi Rita.. I am also very excited. This is great to have found a relative from the Parrott side of the family. All the imformation you gave me I do already have but I would love it if we could swap our research, even if only to confirm what we have. One thing I have that I think you will find rather exciting is a book called the Minstrel Memories, it is very old, but it has pictures of Edward Parrot (Ted Snow), Ben and George Snow, also group pictures of the whole minstrel troop. I would be more than happy to email these pictures to you. It is amazing, that the picture of Edward looks just like my dad when he was young.

I would love what info you have and I shall also send what I have. My email is angiefishwick24@hotmail.com

I am so glad to hear from you, if you send me your email I will send those pictures asap...

Cheers Angie

Wondering if anybody out there might have a connection with my Parrott's. They lived in the London (Middelsex) area, Benjamin Parrott (Ben Snow) and Edward Parrott (Ted Snow). They were Minstel Entertainers in the 1800's and changed their names to Snow as stage names. Benjamin's kids names were Snow and so on to me Angela Snow...I was hoping someone might have a connection, I do have quite a bit of information about them, always welcome more. I'm happy to share what I have.

Cheers Angie

I have more accurate info on this family. John W was shot in the line of duty as a customs agent in El Paso in 1927. In 1910 census in El Paso he is married to Eula age 26 and has Ollie G (daughter) age 6 and Benjamin G age 5. His brother Jack never married and died in El Paso in 1951. Their sister May is my brick wall. She married Ed Roach in 1895. We are trying to connect this May Parrott to us but I have been told all of the records have been destroyed. We are trying to prove May Parrott married William Allen Nichols in Throckmorton or Stephens County. They had Ada Garl Nichols in 1902 and May died about 1906 we think in Throckmorton or Stephens County. We do not know if May divorced Ed or he died. Their fathers name was Benjamin and John's death cert has his mother listed as Mittie Steagel. Any help in connecting this family together is greatly appreciated.

I am looking for info on Lillie Mae Parrott who was born about 1870. She married William Allen Nichols and had Ada Garl Nichols 04 Sept 1902 in Texas. Lillie Mae died about 1906, we do not know how/when or where. Family stories that were told are that Lillie Mae had at least two brothers named John (who was a doctor in Haskel County) and Jack who was a Texas Ranger. I would love any info anyone has on this family so that we can start this family tree.

Re: parrott/snow London

I am quite excited to have found your message on the Board. My Grandmother was Catherine Parrott the youngest child of Edward Parrott b.1828. Edward was a minstrel entertainer known as Ted Snow, his sons Benjamin and George were also both minstrels using the stage name Snow. Edward married twice, 1st marriage to Elizabeth Taylor 1854 amd 2nd to Elizabeth Newland in 1860 and there were 7 children of this marriage. We have been unable to trace Edwards birth records although the Census tell us he was born in Clerkenwell St Lukes Middlesex. My mother thought he was born and died on Christmas day, she was right that he had died on Christmas day 1903. I came across another researcher Ingrid who is also descended from Benjamin, her Grandmother was Elsie Snow, youngest child of Ben. We exchanged information. I have been researching since 1997 and have quite a lot of information but there are many unanswered queries especially regarding Edward's father's Bankruptcy and lost inheritance. It is interesting to see you are in Australia as my mother understood a cousin of Edward who had had smallpox emigrated there but was not heard of again. I could go on an on but time is pressing. I will send you a family tree and a copy of the story so far if you would like it. I would be interested in any information you have and I am sure Ingrid will be too as she descends from the same line. I am going to e-mail her, we have not communicated for about a year as there has been no new information to add.
Look forward to hearing from you, Rita

Have you seen "The Iowa Department of the Grand Army of the Republic," compiled by Jacob A. Swisher? It was published in 1936 by The State Historical Society of Iowa. It includes a discussion of the early difficulties of establishing/maintaining the Iowa Department. It then goes on to include a full-page picture of each Department Commander and a one-page summary of his life and war record; starting with James C. Parrott and continuing through Jonathan C. Hanes.
I have a copy - let me know if there is anyone you are looking for.

Re: Josephine/Louis/Kate Parrott

The combination of Churchward and Parrott suggests that your family originated from Devon, England. The area around Berry Pomeroy and Stoke Gabriel seems most likely but your grandparents may not have been the immigrant generation, ie you may not find their names on any of the passenger lists. However, it might be worth looking for that particular combination of surnames to see if members of a local community travelled together.

Have you tried
http://www.churchward.com/cw/ or the P_rr_tt Society?
