Either one of us has a reason to think that particular mother and child could be theirs. You are saying the enumerator can't spell Llangollen despite it having to be written many times on the page. I'm saying the enumerator can't spell Llanfyllin. We'll never know who is correct will we? It's just another piece of a family puzzle. There are so many Parrys with the same christian names and ages they may never be separated so have fun building your Parry family tree.

I don't think you got my point?

The Llangollen Parish Registers have a baptism entry for an Annie Elizabeth Parry, the illegitimate daughter of Catherine Parry of Mill Street, Llangollen. The child's date of birth is given as 8 Jan 1883.

This matches the GRO birth indexes and NorthWales BMD birth indexes for an Annie Elizabeth Parry born in the Llangollen sub-district of the Corwen Registration District in 1883 Q1 (Corwen 11b 367 or GOLLEN/02/52).

Both the above match the 1891 Llangollen census entry for Catherine Parry and her daughter Annie Elizabeth who are living in Mill Street, Llangollen.

I would suggest therefore that this is not the family from Llanfyllin that you are looking for?

Re: Catherine Parry born 1860 reg Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire

Here is an interesting twist and you are partially correct. My grandmother is Elizabeth Ann "Annie" Parry born Aug. 14, 1882 in Llanfyllin and registered there. She was born out of wedlock and registered as Elizabeth Ann Pritchard, daughter of Mary Pritchard and no father. Six months later Robert Parry b 1853, is the brother of Catherine Parry b 1860, he married Mary Pritchard on Feb. 13, 1883 in a Civil Ceremony in Llanfyllin and he is Annie's father and she took on the Parry surname. I have a photograph of Robert and Mary Parry and their children Elizabeth Ann 1882, Jane 1884 and Thomas Francis 1888. Catherine and Robert's parents were Thomas and Jane Parry and the other siblings were were Mary 1851, Jane 1855, Harriet 1856 and Thomas. They we all born in Tynyfedw, Llanrhaiadr, Denbigh, registration district Llanrhaiadr, sub district Llanrhaiadr, Counties of Denbigh & Montgomery. Annie was never shown living with her parents Robert and Mary Parry in the 1891, 1901 Wales Census. However, when she was 8 years old she was living with her Aunt Catherine Parry who was single. My grandmother was married in Leicester ENG July 28, 1904 and her husband and 6 children immigrated to Canada in May 15, 1924 on the Carmania. I have her birth certificate, her parents marriage certificate, a photo of the parents and 3 children, her marriage certificate and her declaration of passage to Canada. My question is do you have the birth certificate for your Annie? If so, and it showed Catherine is her mother it would resolve everything wouldn't it? It appears Robert was trying to hide Annie and Catherine was far enough away from Llanfyllin to help him accomplish it.

The Annie Elizabeth Parry in the 1891 Llangollen census was the illegitimate daughter of Catherine Parry, and was born in Llangollen on 8 Jan 1883 (Corwen 11b 367).
I believe that "Llanfullen" is an error and should read Llangollen?
It's possibly that Catherine Parry is living in Acton, Wrexham on the 1881 census.

I am researching the young men from our village of Eastham, Wirral, UK who died in WW1 and one of them was Thomas Irving Parry. He was with the Royal Fusiliers and was killed in France on 5th September 1915.
Does anyone have any information about Thomas and his family that they would be willing to share with me? He may have been known as Irving. He went to school locally in Eastham but I can't track down any other information about the family. It shows him as having been born in New Brighton and enlisting in Douglas IOM with a residence of Manchester but I can't work out when he went to the IOM or Manchester or why?
Any information would be appreciated to help add a little bit more to the stories of the young men who are remembered in the village.
Thanks
Tracey

Have you had anymore luck tracing your Parry family line back to Wales? My Parry ancestors were from the North Wales area between Llanrhaiadr-ym-Mochnant, Llangedwyn, Llanfyllin and Llansantffraid. My great grandfather Robert Parry was born Mar. 20, 1853 in Tynyfedw, Llanrhaiadr, Denbigh & Montgomery. He was the son of Thomas Parry and Jane Thomas. His siblings were Mary, abt 1851-2, Jane 1855, Harriet abt 1856-7, Thomas abt 1858 and Catherine abt 1860. My grandmother told me she had a relative immigrate to upper NY state (she thinks Ithaca!!) but didn't know name. If you can at least trace back to Wales we maybe able to sort this out.
Bob

When I saw NY in your Parry board I had to ask some questions. My Parry line goes back to North Wales in places like Llanrhaiadr-ym-Mochnant, Denbigh & Montgomery, Tynyfedw, Llangedwyn, Llanfyllin, Llansantffraid, etc. Thomas Parry and Jane Thomas had 6 children all born in Tynyfedw. They were Mary abt 1851-2, Robert 1853, Jane 1855, Harriet abt 1856, Thomas abt 1858 and Catherine abt 1860. I haven't been able to trace 3 of them Mary, Thomas and Catherine. My grandmother, daughter of Robert came to Canada with her children in 1924 on the Carmania. She said she had relatives in upper NY state (perhaps Ithaca) but I haven't been able to come up with anything. If there is a connection it has to come down through Mary, Thomas or Catherine. I just noticed I'm about 10 years behind replying to your 1999 message. Does any of the above have any familiarity to your Parry family line?

Bob

Catherine Parry born 1860 reg Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire

There were two Catherine Parrys born in 1860 that I noticed.
However, in the 1891 Wales Census RG 12/4637, one in particular was single!!, age 31 and had a daughter!! Annie Elizabeth age 8 living with her. The birth places for both was listed as Llanfullen. Catherine Parry and my grandmother born Aug. 14, 1882 had their births registered in Llanfyllin.
Also, my great grandfather had a sister Catherine. I noticed the other Catherine Parry in he same census RG 11/5515 was born in Llangollen. I find the coincidence of age, names and relationship it appears Catherine and Annie fit my family. Any thougts or views on this? Thank you.

Harriet Parry born 1856 reg. Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire, Wales

I'm looking for Harriet Parry who was born 1856 in Tynyfedw, Llanrhaiadr, Denbigh & Montgomery. Her birth is registered in the 2nd Qtr Vol 11b, Page 288 in Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire, Wales. Her parents were Thomas and Jane (maiden Thomas) Parry. I've only been able to trace Harriet up to the 1881 Wales Census for Birkenhead, RG 11/3582. I've been unable to find if she got married, died or left the country. Her siblings are Mary, Robert who married a Pritchard, Jane who married a Davies, Thomas and Catherine. My grandmother told me a Parry relative moved to upper NY State USA and there was another relative mentioned during WW2 called Uncle Griffi. I hope the above may pique someone's interest.

Hello Lauren
I have a Catherine Parry born 1860, Tynyfedw, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, North Wales. Her parents were Thomas and Jane (nee Thomas) Parry. Her siblings were Mary b 1851, Robert (my great grandfather) b 1853, Jane b 1855, Harriet b 1856, Thomas b 1858 and the youngest was Catherine. They are listed in the 1861 Wales Census ref R.G. 9/4293, Township of Gartheryr. Note the transcription has Robert as age 18 when in fact he was 8 years old. There are vertical check marks in the male age column and someone made Robert's age incorrectly. I noticed in the 1891 Wales census there was a Catherine Parry, single, with a daughter Annie Elizabeth. I believe that this Catherine, who shown as single, is Robert's sister and she is taking care of his daughter Elizabeth Ann who was born before Robert got married.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Bob

MerylPleased to hear from you.I am pretty sure that we are related I have info on Dan Josiah Parry born1893, who went to Philadelphia and had 2 sons My mother remembered Dan coming home to Blaina on a visit when she was a young girl. He had a brother James, born 1898. Was that your grandfather? There was also an older brother, Thomas, who went to Nantycwch in Philadelphia.Their father was Thomas Wynn Parry who married a lady called Sarah Jane Prosser. They had a large family and I have info on them and the other branches, going back to 1807.
If this ties in with the info you have please let me know.
Ann

Meryl.
Thomas Parry died in 1865 and is buried in Blaina Churchyard. His widow ,Rhoda Wynn did not go to America until 1866.
You are descended from their son William (as am I ) who stayed on at Cwm Farm in Blaina.
William's second son was Thomas Wynn Parry, born 1859 (your great grandfather?)
I am sure that your grandfather James ,who I knew as Jim, had 3 children, a son "Parry" who lived in Cwmbran, a daughter Muriel and another son Randall, who lived in Abertillery.
Does this all fit your facts or am I getting my wires crossed? Let me know
Ann

Maria Parry married my Gt gdfather John Edwards at Llanafan in Cardiganshire in 1856. Her life up to that point is something of a mystery. I think I have found her in 1841 at Llangwfan Rectory, and a possible link in 1851 to Birkenhead. However, does she appear on any of your family trees. Her father was John Parry, again a possible link in 1841 with a second wife, cannot find him 1851 or the census following. Any help will be appreciated.

Great to hear from you, Ann. I have no living relatives on the Parry side of my immediate family here and thought it would be a huge task to find any information at all (I've only been researching for a couple of weeks)but how wrong I was! The first census that shows my grandfather was for 1901 when he was 3 years old. It shows a sister (Sarah) who was 6, Dan who was 8, Rhoda who was 15, William (16), Thomas (19), John (21) and their parents Thomas and Sarah. I've managed to go back to the 1841 census and found Thomas and Rhoda (Wynn) Parry and their children William and Mary. From what I understand, Thomas, Rhoda and Mary went to America around 1847 leaving William at home on the family farm in Blaina. Do these details agree with what you have? I remember the excitement I felt as a young child when my great-uncle Dan came to visit, and how I was mesmerised by an accent I had only heard on visits to the cinema. It was such a magical time.
Please keep in touch,
Meryl

Ann,
Thanks for your message.
Jim was my grandfather and he and his wife Hilda did have 3 children. "Parry" (real name Ivor James)was the oldest (born 1922), the next in line was my mother Megan Mildred (born 1923) and the youngest was Randall Stuart (born 1942). I think there were a couple of still-births between my mother and Randall. My mother died in 1999, Ivor died about 5 years ago and I believe that Randall is still alive somewhere in west Wales. There was a huge rift in the family about 15 years ago that was caused by Randall, and the 3 siblings went their own ways, never to speak again. It was very sad. I must have picked up a wrong thread somewhere along the way to have got the information I had, but many thanks for putting me straight.
Best wishes,
Meryl

Nice to hear from you, Vernon.
I've only been doing this for a couple of weeks and can't believe the amount of information available. I have no living relatives on the Parry side of my immediate family who would have been able to help me but, from what I've discovered so far, it looks to me as though we are indeed related. I have found Thomas and Joseph on the 1871 Census. Thomas was 13 at the time and Joseph was 9. I thought I'd hit a stumbling block when I couldn't find Thomas and Rhoda Wynn on the 1851 Census (they were there in 1841), but all was explained when I found out about them going to America in 1847.
Best wishes,
Meryl

If so, we may be distant relatives. My grandfather James B Parry (Jim) was Dan's younger brother.
