Many thanks, Melissa, as I've received your invite & have checked your Partin line. I wrote you privately to say that there's probably no connection between the PARTIN's shown in your database & those in mine, as my line was already in Oregon about 25 years before your William Robert Partin was born 1873-TN but I'm quite impressed with the material & sources that you show in your database.
Partins of Cherokee County Texas, beginning about 1870

I am looking for a connection for Jesse (Benjamin?) Partin, born abt 1846 to 1849 in Tennessee, married Susan Melvina Dew in Cherokee County in 1872, died 1891 in Cherokee County. He appears to be the first Partin in Cherokee County. Does anyone know if this is the Jesse Partin, son of Thomas F. Partin and Hannah Louisa King, who was born in Tennessee abt 1846, moved to Nacogdoces TX about 1851 and was last shown in the Nacogdoches census in 1870?

Doris, many thanks for your prompt reply. Re Sarah Amanda Grosse, it's my understanding that she was originally from McMinn Co., TN however the census records on Tennessee Victoria show that her father (no name listed) was born in NC & her mother (no name listed) was born in SC.

James S. Partin (abt 1790 NC-1883 Walker Co.GA) m. Isabella Edmondson (abt 1807 NC - 1882 Walker Co. GA)
George Alexander Partin (1/22/1832 NC - 1/18/1862 Catoosa Co. GA - he died in Nashville, TN as a Confederate soldier.) m. Sarah Amanda Grosse (b. 9/5/1832 McMinn Co. TN - 4/30/1891 Catoosa Co. GA)
Tennessee Victoria Partin b. 10/22/1861 Ringgold (Catoosa Co. GA - 2/7/1946 Parsons (Decatur Co. TN) m. William Madison Arnold.

I just can't figure out the James A. Partin & Sara Lemons on the death certif. It states they were both born in GA when the census says NC & SC. This is a tangled mess. Everything points to Geo. A. being her father even current family members who visited her when they were children. I'll have to come up with some legitimate answer before any of the UDC chapters will accept this as actual lineage. I spoke with Brenda Messer, a NC historian, today & she is also going to research this. She has written several books, received several awards & is the mayor of Morganton, NC. Very nice to talk to.

Again, many thanks for your info & interest!
Beth
mbeth2fish@comcast.net

A. 17 TN (Is it possible this was Sarah Amanda who later married George Alexander "Parten", was she a grandchild probably of James and Elizabeth? Had she been married before or could she have had a child out of wedlock before marry the "Parten")
Margaret V. 2/12 GA (Sarah's child?)

Also I wonder if on the death certificate is being read correctly for your Tennessee V. I wonder if her mother could have been Sarah (Amanda) Saxon, instead of Lemons. The father should have read George A. Partin not James A. Partin, although it is possible that George Alexander Parton (various spellings) could have had an extra name; many people did. You notice that Tennessee's brother James was named James W. Cyrus/Syrus Parton (various spellings of last name).

I found no Grosse family, any spelling living in Walker/Catoosa GA in this time period. Have you?

I believe the Sarah in the Saxon/Sexton home in 1850 Walker Co. GA was the Sarah Amanda who married George Alexander Parton (last name various spellings.) There were no Sextons or Saxtons beside or near James in 1840 Burke Co. NC. Her father could have well been a Grosse.

574 574
James Parten 50 born NC {father unknown. I had thought him to fit as a brother to my children's line, but DNA has so far shown this to be totally not so-Doris Noland Parton}
Isbel (Isabell Edmonston, Edmiston, etc) 40 born NC
George A. 18 (George Alexander Parton) NC
Sarah C. 16 NC
Catherine M. 14 NC
Nancy L. 12 NC
John 10 NC
Betsy M. 6 NC
James W. 3 GA
Alfred W. 1 GA

1840 West of North Fork of Catawba, Burke County, NC
Jas. From there it seems there are many more with various sons having sons named Hugh Gilmore Partin. Any advice is appreciated. Willing to share what I have.

Hello. I'm Brownell's daughter. I've always wanted to meet and talk to you. I was so young when my grandmother passed away. Please email me at aberhiet@aol.com. Mamal Flo is buried in Corbin but I will double check with my mother. My parents have been divorced for 23 years and we live in Ohio now. I don't have contact with Brownell (my father) or Phillip but can give you pretty much all the information you need.

I saw your post, and everything you said was very similar to my Partin line. My Partin's moved From SC in the 1840's to Marengo Co., Al in the 1850's. Then to Newton Co., MS, then to Nacagdoches Co., TX. Have you ever connected your Partin's to an Asa B. Partin from Sumter Co., SC?

Thank you,
Jay Odom

My name is Terri Partin of Houston, Tx.According to some of my grandmother's paperwork, my great-great grandfather was John E Partin born 10/1/1861 died 5/20/1909. It says that he was married to a Salle A ? born 9/22/1861, died 9/1/1928.They had a son, William Partin b-3/16/1882 d-10/19/63, who had a son (my grandfather), John(Johnny) Ellis Partin from Freestone county Texas. He is still alive and lives in Baytown. That part of my family has always been somewhat distant. Hope this helps.

Eli Partin, b. 13 May 1800, d. bef 1868, was the son of Barnabas and Margaret Hux Partin. He married Elender 'Ellen' Smart on 23 Dec 1824, in West Feliciana Parish, LA. Eli's death date is unknown, and a puzzle that I haven't solved is there was an Eli Partin that received a land patent in Yalobusha County, Mississippi, on 10 May 1848. Eli's sister and brother-in-law Anna and Henry Maxey owned land within five miles of the location at the time. I would be interested in corresponding on your family line since I haven't documented all of Emily's family. I know she married Lawrence Bennett Nickens and John Seaton Chambers after her marriage to John Moore.

Thanks for responding--John Ellis Partin married Sallie Arrilla Whitworth. He was the only child of Gray Partin Jr and Mary Jane Miller. They came from Itawamba, Mississippi. Gray Partin Sr married Mary Jane Johnson and they lived on the Chickasaw Ridge. Mary Jane Johnson died before the Civil War and is buried there--she requested to be buried near the house so that her children and grandchildren could play on her grave. 4 of her 5 sons died in the Civil War--Francis Marion was too young to fight and later he and his father and other relatives moved to Weatherford, Texas. Grandma Stella gave my mother a picture of John Ellis as a boy with Uncle Bud Partin and three of Bud's(Francis Marion) children. I found their family on a census record and discovered the rest of the family in Mississippi--the picture was the key. John Ellis married Sallie Arrilla Whitworth--they grew up in the same neighborhood in Monroe, Mississippi. They came to Texas and had a son William Marion Partin who married Lela Mae Adams( my great grand mother) and Stella Little (your great grand mother). My grandfather was William Lawson Partin. My mother is Wanda Brunson. We visited Uncle Johnny just a few months ago and he looks great! I grew up in Baytown.
I have all of this information--are you a genealogist at heart? If you want it I will email it to you.
Becky Spence 1-979 323-9906

There is a book that might help. I have never seen it.
A Biography of Hightowers by Paul Hightower et al.

I am interested in the Hightowers in their connection with Partons. Alford Hightower
indenture betweeen Samuel H. Williams ESq. High Sherrif Buncombe Co. NC and Hardy Hightower of Williamson Co. TN, names Delilah and Alfred Hightower as heirs of John Hightower deceased. Oct. Session 1806, ordered registered 2 Apr 1807.

TN State Archives
John Parton and others vs Hardy Hightower and others
Giles Co.TN May 7, 1818
suit went to TN Supreme Court

This was in relations to the following:

John Parton put up 4 negores to John Hightower in Buncombe Co. NC as security for 69 lbs (pounds, money). John Hightower sold or gave some of the negores to his mother and father, Sarah and Oldham Hightower, remainder to Hardy Hightower. This states that Delia (Delilah) and Alfred were heirs. John Hightower (brother to Richard)

JOhn Hightower after leaving Buncombe Co. NC went to west, squandered adn wasted his money. Hardy, Oldham and wife, now living Giles Co. TN. Delia HIghtower was in Sumner Co TN Mar 1818.

Three was an Allen Hightower on 1830 Cocke Co. TN census. 1 male under five, 1 m ale 15-2-, 1 female 15-20. May or may not be related to the above.

Delia HIghtower d 1845 dau of John and Mray ( ) Hightower. John Hightower died 1801 Buncombe Co. NC. Delia married her first cousin John Hightower who was born 1792 and was the son of Richard and Nancy (Smith) Hightower.

Thre was an Ephaphrodetus (spelling?) Hightower in Caswell Co. NC to Greeneville Co. SC to Grainger Co. TN.

Hardy Hightower Buncombe Co. NC Deed Bk 6, Sect 1, p. 156

John Hightower to Hardy Hightower for 100 pounds (money) oon Negro boy 16 yrs. of age. John mentions in deed that h e had agiven his father Oldham Hightower and his mother Sarah 2 negore children in 1794.
This entry was on Feb. 5, 1800. Witnesses Joseph H. (Hightower), Kinchin Holcombe
registered July 18,1800

indenture NC Deed Bk 6 p. 158 between Hardy HIghtower and John Hightower land lying soucth fork of Hominy Cree between David Miller and Richard Hightower.
5 Feb. 1800

There are records in TN archiveson this case of Parton vs Hightower and there are records in GA where the Parton moved and it was in the courts there.

I would love to have copies of any of these Parton/Partin/Hightower records that anyone digs up.

I am Mary Lou Partin also but born in the 1950's. If there are any relatives of this MaryLou there is some unclaimed money in a bank account I believe in North Carolina.
