Re: William Paschal of the land grants

Hi Dirk Paschal (you still carry this family name!)
Just revised my post now in 2009 and found your note. Would be interested in documenting my lineage (part of William PASCHAL/PASCHALL of land grants). My father's family merged into the PASCHALL line with the marriage of Susannah PASCHALL and John GRESHAM (if memory is correct). In 2002 I visited Abbeville SC courthouse and found will of Samuel PASCHALL (whichever ancestor was married to Phereba WARD). Am now retired and beginning to try to organize all this stuff.

If you have any further sites/documentation, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks so much. Maybe I'll also hear from you in a few years. :-)

Interestingly enough your post was on 27 Jun 2002 -- we just celebrated our 40th anniversary on 27 Jun 2009!

Death of Mrs. Yancy Paschal

Appears in the Terrell Times-Star, Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas, 22 January 1892 ...

Mesquite, Texas, January 15 - A shocking accident occurred today at the house of Yancy Paschal, which will probably result in the death of his wife. Today while Mrs. Paschal was putting away the milk her clothing came in contact with the stove and took fire and before she could extinguish the flames the spread entirely over her body and burned her clothing off her. The balance of the family were at the spring and reached her too late to help her, She is yet alive, but the physician says she can't possibly live. her suffering is intense. She is a young lady and has only be married about ten months.

1883 item about Ridge Paschal

San Antonio Light
San Antonio, Texas
April 13, 1883

Not in Paint and Feathers
The natural chief of the Cherokee Indians is Mr. RIDGE PASCHAL, a well known lawyer of this city. Mr. paschal is of dark complexion, as dark as a Spaniard and much darker than most Cherokees. When informed of his parentage, one notes that his features are decidedly characteristic of the Indian. His mother was a Cherokee of the blood royal, his father was a white American, the famous Judge Paschal, who, with Pike and others, made for Van Buren a reputation as the home of some of the most distinguished men of the country. For some time he was a member of the Cherokee Council; subsequently he became editor of the Galveston News, the leading paper of the State of Texas, and then began practicing law, in which vocation he is now engaged. To a majority of the 67 members of the Cherokee Council, he is a blood relative, and of the 22,000 Cherokees inhabiting the Territory, he can trace blood connection with nearly 5000, while the old chiefs of the nation say he related to half the entire Cherokee population, or 11,000 persons.

Mr. A. E. IVEY, published of the “Cherokee Advocate,” the national organ of the Cherokee Indians, is visiting Mr. Paschal, of whom he is a cousin. He is of very fair complexion, but, though only one-fourth Indian, has features clearly indicative of his Indian blood. The office he holds is filled by appointment to the editor of the Advocate, who is elected by the Council. The salary of the editor is $1000 a year. The published makes from $1500 to $3000 a year. The present editor of the Advocate is D. H. ROSS, an enemy of long standing to the Ridge family, who which Mr. Ivey owes his Indian blood, and the appointment of Mr. Ivey as publisher was the result of a compromise. The expense of publishing the paper is defrayed by the Cherokee government.

“How many Cherokee Indians do you think are engaged in fishing and hunting for a living?” asked Mr. Paschal yesterday.

“About 100.”

“”You have a better idea of the Cherokee than 999 out of 1000 persons,” said Mr. Paschal, “but the number is not so great as 100, it is only 17.”

“The Cherokees are as highly civilized as Texans,” declared Mr. Ivey. “They have their farms and churches and school houses.”

“They’re ahead of the States people as to a desire for education,” Mr. Paschal interrupted. “New York state last year spent but $2.50 per head for education, while the Cherokees spent $3.50.”

“It’s funny what ideas some people have of the Cherokees. When the friends of my wife heard she was going to marry a Cherokee, they expected to see a sanguinary fellow in moccasins, leather leggings, paint and feathers, and were surprised when they beheld yours truly, RIDGE PASCHAL, a gentleman, not without honor in his family circle.”

Mr. Ivey will return home in a few days.

Hello Barbara,
Tabitha Elizabeth Paschal was my g-g-g-grandmother. She married Henry Clay Hooks. I found a reference online today that you have a copy of her Bible. Would you have it available to copy? Do you have any pictures you can share? My mother is 90 years old and would like to see pictures of Tabitha. So far, I have not been able to locate any. Just seeing pages from her Bible would please my mother also.

Look foward to hearing from you.

Thanks,
Louise Rowell

Paschal/Onsby

I am related to William Paschal (Paschel) and The Onsbys. Willie Myrtle Onsly was my grandmother and she was from Ponatoc MS. My mother was Sammye Ree Strong her daughter.

I have been unable to locate information on this branch of the family. I believe your G O Onsby was my great-great grandfather. If so, his name was George Oscar and his son Oscar was my great-grandfather.

Was there a Choctaw indian connection to this family? My family legend says so but I have been unable to verify.

Looking forward to hearing from you, Nancy Currier

Hi Laura. I have pretty much exhausted the Paschal's from tracadie, NS and migrating to Mass. I am curious about the NH line and have helped a Carol Bryan from bend Oregon to find the Grave site of her GGGF in Brunswick, VT, I am in South Portland, Me and most of my family on my mother's side in from Hancok County. Where is NH was your GGGF Paschal born and where in Mane did he die? Do you know where the NH line started. I would ike to try to see if this line links to mine. My Paschal's were Pascal until about 1854. Thanks, Bill Paschal

I'm trying to find information on the parents (and siblings) of Jasper and Lonie Paschal. I was told that Jasper's mother was named Celie (sp), but I haven't been able to find a connection to a Celie from Jasper. I was, however, able to find a Celie who might be my Lonie's mother. (I believe the maiden name could be Hall or Hull.)

To the best of my knowledge the family was mostly in Warren and McDuffie counties (and possibly Putnam), GA. I've been told that Jasper had many siblings but I do not know any of their names.

Together Jasper and Lonie had: Susie, Luther, Ethel Mae, Jessie Mae, Alfred, James, and Will... all born between approximately 1907 and 1915. Jasper Pascal was born around 1873 and Lonie was born probably born in the 1880s.

Thanks!

Paschalgenie?

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? I cannot find the Paschalgenie.org that everyone is referring to. Any help is appreciated.
Also, I am the great granddaughter of Dollie Paschal Underwood and am trying to find out her mother's first name (as well as maiden) and was told that her mother was staying w/her 'sister', a Mrs. Keenan/Kenon. Am trying to straighten this out as no first names were given in any of the stories regarding the massacre. ANY HELP?
Thanks, Jennifer at jorton56@sbcglobal.net
