I'd like to make some changes to the previous post. The scores are soccer scores for those years and the owner of the Passon Sporting Goods was Harry Passon. He and a couple friends raised money thru the store to support Hebrew and Black baseball, soccer, basketball and football teams. He was an exception man of his time. He was active in all sports in some way, helping young men to play the sports they loved. Many items sold were manufactured under the PASSON name in Philadelphia, PA.

I have a leather football helmet with Passon, Philadelphia etal etched into the leather. Unfortunately, it's not in great shape; some of the stitching is torn, etal. I was my fathers helmet, unfortunately my little brother used it playing back yard football quite a bit in the 70's. Based on my dad's age, it probably was from the 30's.

My wife is also in the direct line from George Washington Passons / father of Her GF (your G Uncle?)John Andrew Passons b. 12 jan 1883 Winston Co. MS d. 23 sep 1944/ GF of her father Major Clovis Passons.

On Ancestry, put in Max Passon and then Wisconsin in the birth area, that will bring up the entire list of census and WWI Registration Card. You can open each one and read them, also make your own copy. Enlarge the WWI card and you can even see his physical description. It also lists him in Illinois on census. Passon Sporting Goods marketed many sporting products under their name, basketball, soccer, pool, baseball, etc.. The store was began to raise money for the sports teams and it was successful for many years. We now know they were in operation until about 1970. My information was about the baseball team scores but it does mention that the store supported many team sports. Also the catalogs offer the PASSON sport items for sale to the public. I have a picture of my dad's soccer team. The name on the front of the shirt is Passon. My dad was born in Philadelphia in 1910. He appears to be in his twenties in the picture. Any information about the team would be appreciated. My dad died in 1976.

Passon Sporting Goods Store in Philadelphia was in operation from the 1920's thru 1970. Henry Passon began the business to support his baseball team, The Passon Phillies, later the Philadelphia Passons. They were a Jewish team, desolving in the 1940's.Henry was also a college professor, involved in basketball and other sports. The Logo has all that information on it. It appears to be from the 30's ???

I picked it up in a baseball auction. It has a block black "P" on one shoulder. The shirt has the Passon label, but the pants do not; however, they match perfectly.

I just acquired a nice gray flannel baseball uniform with a tag that says "Passon Sign of Quality 507 Market St."

The uniform appears to be from the 20's-30's.

My Ggrandfather is Max Passon. My grandmother insisted he was "from" Wisconsin, near Green Bay but I have written to 6 counties in the area and no one has a birth record of him. I don't know where to look next... After he lived in Wisconsin for a while he then moved to Chicago (Pilsen neighborhood) and his family has stayed in ILlinois ever since. Looking for info on William Passons, found in NC in early 1800's. Especially interested in possibly connecting an Elizabeth Passons to him as a daughter, or a Mary ______ as his wife. Mary appears in Elizabeth's household in 1850 in Ashe county, NC, as Mary Passons, mother, age 73, b. VA. Elizabeth Tilley is head of household, age 36, b. VA, with several children.
Passons doesn't seem to be a common name early on in the US. Is anyone out there researching this surname in the NC/VA/TN area?

I cannot help you specifically, however from our line of Passon's 3 went north to Michigan, South Dakota and to Minnesota in the very early years.... 1880's according to information I have. I do not find any mention of Wisconsin but that could be the next generation of Passon's on the move. Max Passon's marriage record may tell where he was born. Happy climbing, Sherry

Mary C. Passons buried in Chisum Cemetery on Webbs Camp Rd Walling, TN. Her children were Ernest,Emma,Frank and Odie and Samuel. She and her husband both are buried at the Chisum cemetery.
