I'm looking for information on Catherine James Anderson (Katie)(b 1876) who married a commercial traveller John Stuart Paterson (b 11/1/1871) on the Island of Cumbrae on 15th October 1897. His parents were Dr James Paterson and Ellen (MS) Chapman who were married in Feb 1860. Katie & John seemed both to be living at the same address in Pollockshields when they got married so I wondered if they had eloped

Any help would be appreciated particularly where Katie was born and whether they had any children.

Here's hoping!

Best Regards
Victoria

PATERSON from Thurso Caithness and Aberdeen

Hi I have Paterson's who were born in Thurso 1790 through to at least 1804 and they are Elizabeth (1790), David (1793), Margaret (1796), Isabella (1799) and Peter (1804).

Their parents were William Paterson and Elizabeth Largia (Or any other spelling variation as I have not found a definitive surname for her yet), they were married in Aug 16 1781 Saint Nicholas, Aberdeen, Scotland. I have not been able to locate any children dates of birth from 1781 to 1793, but suspect that there has to be some possibly born in Aberdeen.

I think the family must have been on the move as Isabella - my direct ancestor later married in Saint Cuthberts Edinburgh.

I would dearly love to know more about this side of the family so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sara

Sorry about the delay in replying to you – I don’t monitor this email address very often and when work is busy, it takes a low priority. I do need to get back into the family search and maybe your email will be the catalyst I need.

I note you have been trying to get in contact with Mike Paterson – did you succeed? Mike had done a lot of research while living in Scotland and gave me whole lot of great stuff – happy to forward it you as well but you may already have even later data from him.

Hugh Wishart Paterson is my great grand uncle.
His father was George b6 Jun 1793 and married Janet Wishart b18 Aug 1795. They had a whole tribe of kids –
Christopher
George
Margaret
William
Agnes
James.
Mary
Janet
Susanna
Glen
and Hugh!

I can send you an electronic file of all this if you wish. I guess you are using some sort of software to manage the records you have. Let me know and I’ll try and export it all for you. I can give you a GEDCOM file, or .FTW (FamilyTree Maker) if you prefer.

I have data back as far as John Paterson b 1721 in Rutherglen, and this all came from Mike. Likewise if you can send me your data back as far as you go, I’d be grateful.

You contact me directly through my work email address garry.phillips@slique.com.au rather than thru Ancestry.com - it will be faster, or you can call me if you wish on mobile 0421 801892 (I live in Sydney and my wife commutes from NZ to spend time with me when we can - the demands of owning your own business!)

Kind regards

Garry Phillips
garry.phillips@slique.com.au
0421 801892
Hi

That is interesting and may be the right relative. A Theophilus Paterson was buried at Woodnesborough on Nov. 11th, 1837 at age 81. This is presumably the same one as baptised at St Nich at Wade in 1755. Do you know when Martha (nee Wootton) died? It may be that "my" Theophilus married twice, although he was pretty old to be having a second family.

Many thanks for the leads.

all the best
John

I've been researching my 2nd great-grandfather Solomon Hayford (wife name unknown)in the US and have searched in vain for a marriage record. I believe I have found his marriage record in CANADA. On Dec. 7 1822 a Solomon Hayford married Elizabeth Ann Paterson in Woodstock, New Brunswick. The marriage was "filed and registered on Mar. 17 1823." Does anyone have more info about these people? I haven't found them in the Hayford book.

Re: Paterson George b1790 m Janet Wishart in Cumbrae > Aus

Mike,

Have just read your post on Rootsweb about the Paterson family and were hoping you could help me out.

My grandfather was Hugh Simpson Paterson (1919-2001) and he was named after his uncle Hugh Wishart Paterson (1890-1918). The fact that the name Wishart appears in my family makes me believe that we may share the same ancestors, Unfortunately my trail runs cold at my great-great grandfather John McIntosh Paterson (c.1845-1900). I have not been able to find any record of him. All I know is that he and his wife Mary Fraser (1863-1942) immigrated to Australia where their first 2 children, John and James William (my great-grandfather) were born. They then moved to Australia where they had 2 more children, Hugh Wishart (above uncle) and Oma. John McIntosh died in the South African Boer War, he enlisted because apparently his brother had been killed in the First Boer War and he wanted revenge.

If you know anything of this line of the Paterson family, I would love your help.

Sincerely,
Sara Zaloum.

I haven't really searched for Theo or Martha other than to note anything I found in the parish registers. In other words, no I do not know when Martha died. Might be a good idea to find a will for Theo and if he wrote one, it could prove one way or another just who he was. Martha Wootton's father died in 1792 and his will describes Martha as "wife of Theopolis Patterson". The r in Patteson appears now and then but the marriage entry of sister Frances in 1787 shows the spelling was corrected to Patteson.Theo gave the marriage bond for his sister Frances to Richard Bayly grocer in Sandwich. Richard died in 1827 and Frances died in 1842 but neither left a will.

My Name is Lindsay Paterson. My Grandfather was Robert Montague Paterson. Robert's Grandfather was Henry Paterson Born 5/4/1809 at Helshetter and Baptised on 12/4/1809 Reay, Caithness. Can anyone fill in the family tree from this point?

William Paterson

Wondering if there are any descendants of William Paterson, (signer of the US Constitution and second governor of New Jersey) born Dec 24, 1745, died Sept 9, 1806? My husband is a direct descendant from his son William. I can't seem to find others.
Thanks,
Hope
