Hi Steph:
I'm sorry this reply has been so long in being responded to, but I have just returned from Australia where I have been researching my fathers side of the family (Cook's).
ISABELLA HENSHILWOOD FORREST PATON was my grandmother. She was born 23 March 1874, in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland. She married my grandfather ANDREW THOMSON DICK (who was born 1 Jun 1882, Lanark, Lanarkshire, Scotland) on 19 April 1907, in Cambuslang, Lanarksire, Scotland. Isabella died 24 June 1926, in Victoria, B.C. Canada, of cancer. She was the daughter of GEORGE PATON (b) 6 June 1848, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland (d) 1 Jul 1926, Fernie, B.C. Canada. and JANET ANDERSON (b) 18 June 1849, Scotland (d) 27 Apr 1939, Fernie, B.C. Canada. AND she had a twin sister ALISON WILSON PATON. The Patons seemed to name their daughters with family sir names, thus the Henshilwood Forrest, and Wilson would be names in the family line. I have yet to find that trail. I would be happy to share information with you, if you still need it. You can contact me at: Patpage71@aol.com

I have an ancestor named Mungo Paton born june 17, 1716 who married (acording to my father's records) married Esther Hog on June 27. 1739. I would have to dig deeper into his book as to were he acquired this info but the infomation is too simular not to be the same person. Reason why I am posting is if it is the same as your ancestor either you or I have Esther's last name incorrect and there is an one day difference in the date of marriage. I am also wondering if that is the case if we can help each other in our information search.

Hi Deb

No problems will do. I am still researching my Patton line which also originates in Stirlingshire with the birth of James Paton abt 1778 died Rothesay , Isle of Bute 1855 and married Mary Dawson 1798 Alloa Clackmannanshire.

As you know doubt have found a lot of Paton's seem to have come from Stirling . This is how far I've gone back to and am having difficulty identifying James' parents and any siblings. If anything crosses your path please let me know as it would be much appreciated and I will do the same.

Many of the anomalies I have found have been very intriguing and often shed a new light on events all those years ago. It will be interesting to get to the bottom of the query around Alexander's records as it will no doubt open another
door of enquiry. I look forward to hearing from you.

One more thing , do you know what your James Patton did when he came to W.A.?

Regards Jamie

Hi Deb

Your info makes sense but please take a look at Australian Pioneer Families compiled by Elizabeth Janson www.geocities.com via Yahoo and scroll down to Patton. I initialy found this site under a general search for John Patton.

This Alexander 1855-1889 died at Port Melbourne aged 34 and wed Elizabeth Wickham in 1877 with the same children you record below!

Please note I haven't checked the registration numbers that Elizabeth Janson records on her tree. I am sure your info is correct but I for some reason I can't email this site to query her records. Clearly there is an error and I feel it should be corrected if possible.

Regards Jamie

Hi

I have seen your Alexander Edward Paton who married a Wickham recodred in a different family tree (you May already know) to that of your James Patton. The other tree indicates his parents were John Patton and Catherine Chisholm???!!, however AEP's children are the same. Are you able to clarify this anomaly as I am not able to contact the other tree maker

Regards James

I assisted a man (think his name was Chris) in Scotland in 2005 with obits and other info for his family genealogy. John and Christine have children Robert (killed WWI), Ann (Neil Cameron), Jennie (John Leitgeb), Jean (McComb), Mary (McNeal), Agnes (Smith), William, David, and John (also killed WWI). Some children and other relatives remain in Scotland. I have lost his email and cannot remember the part of Scotland they were from so I'll post this here. I recently found a newspaper article about John's death during WWI. It was this death that eventually caused his father's death.

They had two daughters, Mary and Margaret. They immigrated to Toronto, Canada about 1906. Margaret and her daughters moved to Detroit, Michigan. Margaret remarried and remained in Detroit untill her death in 1971. I don't know what happened to Andrew. I think he died in Toronto in 1931.

Re: elizabeth paton

Looking for anyone who may have connections to this Paton Family. John Paton married Elizabeth Nott. They had these children in order of birth. Mary 1834, Elizabeth 1835, Maria 1836, David 1839, John 1841, Phoebe 1843, Anne 1845 all in I believe Lancashire County, England. After John died Elizabeth married John Coote Fitzgerald in Dec 1849. This John dies in 1868 24 Sandon St. in St. Bride, Liverpool, Lancashire, England. On the 1871 Census Elizabeth is still living there with Anna and Elizabeth. Then in 1881 Ann, Maria, Mary and Phoebe are living there with their mother Elizabeth. The 1881 census has Elizabeth age 68 living there with Ann, Maria, Mary, Phoebe. The 1891 census has Elizabeth age 78 living there with Anna, Maria, Phoebe and all three girls are listed as being Fitzgeralds at this point, prior to this they were listed as Paton. The 1901 census has Elizabeth Jr, Maria, Phoebe, Anna living there. So Elizabeth Nott Paton had to have died sometime between 1891 and 1901. John Coote is my ggggrandmothers brother. He was an Attorney on the Irish Bar.

Patty,

I think that is probably a misprint or something because I know that the family name is not Peggin. In any event, since you are ancestors of William and I am the great granddaughter of Thomas (I think that's the correct relationship), that makes us related, so many times removed, right? Wild! I've found so many distant relatives through my search, on both sides of my family.

Anyway, take care and we'll talk soon.
Hi Belinda,
I am a direct descentant of David Paton through my father's line. I have a family tree (still a lot of branches to fill in) on www.genesreunited.com which I would be happy to make available to you. If not, I could pass you some info. Afraid I haven't gone further back than David Paton & Margaret Moore. Are you registered on genes reunitd? My email address is rosellajamm@aol.com. I was born in Australia and now live in Norfolk, England. I started to do my family tree on this site but switched to genes reunited as I had contacts & replies on there. I have recently found my long lost aunt (wife of father's brother) and cousins in Australia, so getting some more info soon. best regards, Leoni Paton

Hello out there, this is my first try at this, so any help from any one would be greatly appreciated. I am searching for any information about a dear old family friend from my childhood, Armour Patton, father Thomas John Patton. I believe "Paddy" (Armour) was born around 1888. At some stage he lived in Ballymoney, Ireland. Paddy was a huge part of our family and I would just like to know a little more about his roots. Your help is greatly appreciated, thankyou.
