Paton to Payton

I am looking for any information on my great grandfather, Thomas Paton, born about July 1857 in Ohio. He illegally changed his last name from Paton to Payton, to ensure correct pronounciation. His son's name appeared as Charles Franklin Payton on his birth certificate. I beleive that my great grandfather's family (his mother and father) are from England but I do not know. If any one can help me get past this road block, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

I'm looking for information on Andrew(b. 1878) and Margaret(b.1875) Paton. Andrew was born in Scotland. Margaret was born in England as Margaret Towers. They married in Glasgow, Scotland in 1898 and had two daughters, Mary and Margaret. They moved to Toronto, Canada in about 1906. I know they were divorced, but I don't know when. Margaret moved to the Detroit area and her last husband was Albert (Victor) Ford. Andrew stayed in Toronto. I think he remarried.

Paton - Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland

My great grandparents Robert (Mackendrick) Paton and Catherine Logan were married, I believe, in Paisley 7 Jun 1867. They had several children (Janet Walker, Agnes Wilkie, James, Robert McKendrick)in Scotland, and at least two in Kobe, Japan (John Evert - my mother's father, and Janie Logan), where my great grandfather went to work after retirement from marine engineering. My mother was only 5 when her father died and she has little information for me to work on. I have found references (most in IGI records) to more children than she was aware of with respect to aunts and uncles, or perhaps there are two sets of marriages between a Robert Paton and a Catherine Logan.

Is there anyone in the Renfrew area that recognizes the names?
Ann Paton McLanders, Dundee

I'm trying to find the birth/christening date and the parents of Ann Paton, who married Thomas McLanders on 18th July, 1865 at St Andrews RC Church, Dundee, Angus, Scotland. Thomas was born in 1843, so I'm assuming that Ann would have been about the same age.

Two of their children have the second names "Walker" and "Mitchell", and as I don't know of any link with these names on the McLanders side of the family, I'm assuming that they may have some relevence on the Paton side.

I would be so grateful for help in this matter. Until I can trace Ann Patons parentage, this family tree has come to a standstill, and we all know how annoying that can be!

Thanks a million,

Sue

Paton/Alston Family Search

I am searching for the Paton family that came from Scotland, U K. To start George ALSTON married Ann GRAY and they had at least two children Margaret b July 1835 and James b 5 Feb 1834, both children were born in Stonehouse, Lanark, Scotland. Now Margaret ALSTON married John PATON on 31 Dec 1856, Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland. They had Ann (Annie Grey) b 1858, Agnes b 1860, George b 1862 all children were born in Paisley, Scotland. Margaret & John also had Effie (?) b 1864, Alston b 1866, Douglas b 1869, John b 1871, Lily A (Lillie) b 1876, James b 1873 all in Sydney N S W, Australia. I know that Annie PATON married James David WALSHE and I have their family information, but I would like to find any relatives of the family (Paton, Alston or even Walshe) that stayed in Scotland/Ireland or any family members that came out to Australia. WALSHE came from Ireland.

I have a real mystery. One of my ancestors was Ida Walker (Aida on gravestone) , born in 1874, probably Buckinghamshire, England, married to Andrew Paton Morrison, not sure in England or Canada, then she was widowed, and remarried to Willie Roy in Canada, but going by the name Ida Meggison even though she signed the marriage certificate to Willie as Ida Walker. Where does the Meggison come in? Unless her ex was really Andrew Paton Meggison. Help!

(St Vigeans is the original Parish Church of what became Arbroath as we know it today.)
This John Paton then married Ann Scott on 11 January 1850 in the Parish of
Mains and Strathmartine.
He left Dundee for Capetown and Melbourne in 1852 as master of the Thomas Worthington. He left Melbourne to take command of the Clutha in Dunedin, New Zealand. He served with the Otaga Pilot Service for 34 years, resigning in 1896. I believe he died in July, 1910.

Hi all,

For all those researching the surnames Patan, Paton and Patton, a complete transcription of all burials for these names in the town of Perth from 1794 to 1863 can now be found on my website, at the following link:

http://chrispatonscotland.tripod.com/calumsfamily/id64.html

I have so far transcribed the registers as far as 1863, the registers do in fact go beyond this to the late 19th Century, and at some point in the future I will return to the A.K.Bell library to finish the job.

Hope this is of some use to someone!!

Chris Paton
George Paton and Bessie Blain

Hello! I am looking for ascendants and descendants of George Paton (b1852 in Scotland) and married Bessie Blaine abt. 1880 in Sanilac County Michigan. Their children are Isabelle, Margaret, Bessie, George, Peter (whom I am a descendant), Harrison, Ralph, David, and John. I have been able to continue the line down through Peter but have not been able to continue his brothers and sisters. I have received info that George came to Michigan with his parents John Paton and Hellen Binnie abt. 1859-1862 from Glasgow Scotland. I have John and Hellen's children as George, JB, Isabelle, David, Mary Helen, Peter, Robert, and three others unknown who may have died as children crossing from Scotland. I have some info on David (b 1843 married Elizabeth Brown), and Mary Heln (b 1858 married James Albert Harvey) but not much else. Any help would be appreciated and possibly I may be of some help to others.
