Most of my early data comes directly from the National Archives in Ottawa. I lived 3 blocks away. The archives contain copies of books of all the genealogical work being done at the county and church level across Canada. With family's doing their own history's , the Natioanl Library has copies of these trees already done and validated. More recently I've started using the online search functions like Family Search (Mormons), Automated Genealogy (National Arvhives)and Google. I check the online obts. every morning (english & french) to capture the more recent clan passings.
But I always validate the source.
Mike

Hi Mike - I am researching only the Patry/Patrie side. My maiden name was Patrie. Hilaire Patry & Adeline Carron were my great grandparents. I show Paul Hypolite Patry & Genevieve Martineau had 4 children - names: Hilaire, Casimir, Marie Alphonsine & Marie Celina. I believe Celina died at an early age. Other than that, the info I have agrees with yours. Where did your information come from? I'm thinking your information might be more correct than mine. I got most of mine from Family Search.

Thanks for your help.

Beth Patrie Evans

I have no Dugas in my tree, my interest are all Patry and all Cere.
However I did a search of the 1901 Canadian Census and found 1 Dollard Dugas in Canada. Born Feb 1 1883. Lived in Sainte-Cunegonde, Quebec, Canada. He was 18 yrs old at the time (Mar 31 1901)and living at home. His parents were Alphonse Dugas & Zephyrine Dugas (no maiden name).
Siblings: Zephyrine,Marie,Herminie & Oscar.
The 1911 Census has no record of them. They have either immigrated to the USA or are recorded under different names.

I'll be going to the national archieves in about 2 months, I will check the local genealogy references for the area and get back to you.
Mike

Hi - I think Dugas is some branch of the Patrie/Patry group but I don't have the connection at this point. I am hoping to have a little more time to work on genealogy pretty soon and will let you know if I find any connection.

Thanks - also check out the McDonald Family Tree. I believe they mentioned a Dugas.

Walton was my father's older brother. I have heard that many Patries lived on Moore St over time. Another cousin of mine still lives on that street.

Where are you located? I am in MD, near Washington DC
My email is carol.patrie@gmail.com.
Every little bit helps. I was unaware of a small cemetary on Moore Street. My cousin Richard used to live at the end of it just before the Northway. He now lives up the Cardin Road. Indian blood comment from a third source sounds promising. The photos I have of Henriette and some of her children are very indicative of native indian featues and coloring.
Hello George,
Here is a message from my cousin Joyce. I think I can get you information about Patrie 1. Let me know if you find this bit helfpul. I might even have a picture of this headstone.

Carol

Dear Carol
It's taken me a few days to find my family tree info. It would help if I kept it all in one place!
Philip Patrie was born in the 1850's and married Henrietta Martin and had four children: Lucy, Willie, Celina and Louis our grandfather. Philip had a brother James but I don't have any info on the name of his wife or names of their children. They may well have named one Henrietta after the sister-in-law.
James is buried in the cemetery on Moore Street. The stone names only him with no mention of his wife. I came across it years ago while searching for Patrie and Cooke ancestors. What a weird feeling it was to see my brothers name on that stone! At that time I'd never heard of him and Aunt Bernie had to tell me who he was.

Years ago I was in St. Mary's Church attending a funeral and an old lady asked Janet and me if Lawrence Patrie was our father. The family resemblance must be very strong. She then told us that she had gone to school with my dad and said that he had the best handwriting and the best brains in the class and it was a shame that he had to leave school at a young age to help support the family. Then she said that we had Indian blood in the Patrie family but she couldn't remember the name of the woman. After the service I looked for her to pump her for more info but she had left and I never saw her again. More lost opportunities.
Hello George,

I will contact my cousins who are more up to speed on the family tree. I do recall that one of our ancestors (I think I have this right) was kidnapped by Native Americans at the battle of Bloody Brook in Deerfield MA. I will see if I can verify this and get back to you.

Best,
Carol

Hi Carol,

My person was Henriette Patrie - wife to Oliver JB LaFontaine, Jr - born Sept 15, 1868 and died Jan 13, 1911. Her parents were James (Jacques) Patrie born ?? and Marguerite Robert who died Aug 10 1948.

I know very little about the Patrie's in Champlain. I have met Deacon Patrie who I believes still lives in Rouses Point. His brother lived or still lives on Moore Street in Champlain.

My question is I would appreciate anything you have on the Patries number one !! Number two is that I often heard that there was the possibility of Native Indian blood from the Patrie side or perhaps the Robert side. My father's Aunt Albertine Ducharme of Coopersville and Champlain would talk of when she was very little meeting a Native Indian in a boat on the lake at times and was told he was a "grandfather" but could never remember to whom but was family. Her grandparents would have been Oliver LaFontaine Sr and Zoe Cardin as well as James Patrie and Marguerite Robert. It is not the LaFontaine side so therefore it could be a Patrie, Robert or Cardin. My grandfather George used to go to Kaknewaga in Quebec to visit "family" there. It is a Mohawk reservation on the south shore of the St-Lawrence river across from the south end of Montreal. No one knows or remembers who it was he would visit. Have you any light to share on this.
Thanks, George

Yes, I believe so. My father was Stanley Patrie and he was born in Champlain in 1912. HIs mother was Emma Phaneuf and his father was Louis Patrie. His grandfather was Philip Patrie - I have Philip Patrie's Civil War records. An historian did a nice piece of research on Philip. My cousin in Champlain could probably describe the connection between us as he has been working on the family tree. I do think we are most likely related.

Some of my ancestors also have the surname of LaFontaine.
Carol Patrie

HI Robert,
M in y name is Carol Patrie and I think we share the same great grand parents. My father, Stanely Patrie was born in Champlain NY. His parents were Emma Phaneuf and Louis Patrie.Louis's father was Philip Patrie. I have quite a bit of information about Philip - and his Civil War records. I am not the genealogist in the family but have heard the La Fountaine name many times.
Coincidentally, one of my two brothers is named Robert Patrie.
I can provide more information that my cousin in Champlain has gathered.
Hope to hear from you
Carol Patrie

The problem with the name Marie is that every female child in Quebec has the name appended to their name during baptism, the boys get Joseph. You need some name more distinctive, a time frame, a husbands name, a location. Some the husbands listed have 3 or 4 wives due to the high mortality rate of that time. If you have anything that can help narrow down the person you are looking for I can check it out.
Mike

I have a baptismal certificate (copy)for Marie Lia Patry - parents are Hilaire Patry and Adeline Charron. I show her date of birth as December 18, 1876 - but that could be her date of baptism (I don't read French. Hilaire and Adeline were my great grandparents. I've been going through the information you sent and will get back with on any discrepancies betweeen your info and mine.

Thanks. Oh - I understand that there are quite a few names spelled incorrectly by the Priests who did the documents so Lia and Lea are probably one and the same. Would you mind telling me where you found your information? I'd really appreciate it as I am trying to verify what I have. Thanks again.

Hi Kris:

We are talking about the same family. Hilaire (known as Alexander) and Adeline would be my great grandfather and great grandmother. My grandfather was Joseph Hilaire Patrie. He was born in Canada in 1879. He died in Sigel Township, Cadott, WI in 1933. Was your great grandmother Blanche Marie Patrie? I grew up in Wisconsin but my grandfather died before I was born. I don't recall meeting any of them.

I'll be back in touch. I have found Hilaire in the census with his name misspelled. Will look up the details and let you know.

Thanks - Beth Patrie Evans - Oregon, USA
I am looking for any information on an Adeline Patrie and Ed Glay, who I believe are my maternal great grandparents. The only information I have is the 1900 Census for the City of St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota. Adeline Glay is listed w/a birthdate of 04/1858, 42 years of age, with one daughter, Julia Glay, birthdate of 02/1887, 13 years old, which is my maternal grandmother. The only information I have on Ed Glay is on my grandmothers certificate of Baptism dated 02/20/1887. There is also a Benedict glay listed as a sponsor. Anyone have anything?

Blanche Marie Patrie is my grandmother. Which of the Patrie crowd I remember her as "Grandma Otto" as her husband was Otto Lund. My mother was born in Eau Claire and traveled west to marry my Dad, Wilbur Dugas. We lived in Southwest Washington. Eerie, huh? Most of the family is still in the Pacific Northwest. I married a Canadian in 1975 and moved with my two sons to Canada. That was 32 years ago. My husband found this website and we have started our joint endeavour. My Dad's family Dugas hs also been traced to Motreal. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled onto your query.
Yes, yes we are cousin!s of some degree. I'm doing a couple inquiries. My mom will be thrilled. I have stuff about cousins who moved to Texas!
Back to you when I have anything!
Kris Dugas McDonald

Hi Beth, My maternal great grandfather Hilaire Patrie lived in Quebec just across the Ottawa River from city of Ottawa. (Ottawa county in Quebec). Five of the oldest children (for whom I have baptismal certificates)were born in Angers Quebec and baptized in the Roman Catholic Church, Ange Gardian d'Angers (Guardian Angel)between 1869 thru 1881. Sometime between 1881 (last child born in Quebec) and 1884 (next child born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin the family moved to Wisconsin. My great grandmother was born in Eau Claire in 1887.

I have found records in the 1851 census in Quebec of my grandma's mother Adeline Charron, but have been unable to find any record on Hilaire Patrie.
Signed Kris Dugaw McDonald, Toronto Canada

Hello my name is Heidi Patrie granddaughter of Hugh Patrie, daughter of his seventh child from his second marriage Terre(used to be teresa) Patrie. I know all of these posts are very old but I'm hoping that maybe Beth or someone will come along and read this. I never got to meet my Grandfather however I feel a special connection to him. I have loved listening to stories about him since I was a small child and am interested in any that I have not heard yet. I would also greatly appreciate any pictures I could download of him I have only one of him and my grammy and while I love this picture and hold it very dear to my heart I would love some more of him to share with my son Finnigan Patrie while it was not my plan I did however start a whole new generation of Patrie's wich in my opinion is a very proud name to hold:) Lokk forward to any information I can recieve.
THank you!!!!!
