Im just trying to find anything i can about the history of my fathers side of the family. My fathers name is Austin Horace Patty (changed his name from just Horace Patty Jr.) His mothers name was Jones. That is almost all i know other than he was born around 1927. If anyone has any information about a lawyer uncle? My drunk grandfather? (Horace Patty) or antyting else i would be very happy.

Invitation to new PATTY site

To: all PATTY surname and other spellings

Do you want to find your PATTY ancestors past the brickwall? Do you want to know how you are related to the other PATTY families? Well, now you can do just that in a two-step plan and about an hour of your time well-spent on this exciting new project.
There are many programs, software, filing systems, etc. to complete your family tree. In my fifteen years of studying all the various methods, I have finally found the easiest and most simple answer to the problems, questions and indecision. How to accomplish this came to me when I found the Family Group Sheet Project.
The link to this format is at shown on my new web site.(see link below)
Once you fill in the blanks with your ancestors names and information, you will be on your way. Please be sure to name the sources like census, bible, land, military and other such records. Also, add any notes you think are relevant to your family. Living persons should not be named, but listed as "LIVING" in the blank for the name of that person.
Now your family line can be added to that of our cousins' information on Our Family Genealogy, sponsored by Rootsweb, a free site.
Finally. you will be ready to be a part of the PATTY DNA match project. It also is simple and easy to do and will prove conclusively how/whether each family is related. A DNA study site will soon be shown in a link made available on my web site. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sylvia/
Thank you,
Sylvia Simms
p.s. my line is James PATTY 1814SC-aft. 1892AL

There is a correction needed here and it is easy to see why there was an error. I have not been able to find the original source of the information but I too had down that both of his wives were Hannah women.

Levi married first to Margaret Hannah Davis, dau of William and Mary C. Davis. His second wife was Winnie Texanna Hannah Brewer, dau of Levi T and Sarah L. Abbott Hannah. Each of them had supposedly married before they married Levi. Winnie had been married before to Dockery Gillespie Brewer and had two children by him, Harvey (m) and Dockie (f). Margaret was not married before but since her middle name was Hannah, it is easy to see why the confusion. This information is from census and marriage records.

Giles Perman Hannah was Winnie's younger brother.

I have been trying to sort out the Patty records on the Miller Funeral Home records listed on the Blount County TN Genweb page. The link is http://www.tngenweb.org/blount/funeral/miller/mill25.htm.

Thanks to the input from Olvaleen and Mrs. Charles Patty, I think it is now possible. John Nelson's parents are listed as Isaac and Elzene Christopher Patty. Augusta's dates and father's name are listed as well. Henry Harve Patty shows as a son of John and his first wife Mary Garner. I was wondering if Mary and Augusta were the same person, but it seems not based on the information provided. Perhaps they were related. I tried to find Augusta or Mary in an earlier census but was not able to find them, but will continue to look. John and Augusta are buried at Sherwood Memorial Gardens on the Alcoa Hwy just north of the Airport.

Charles Patty was my great-grandfather. His daughter, Nancy, married Elyard Long. They had a son, George Cleveland Long, who married Sallie Evie Austin. Their daughter, Nancy Viola Long, was my mother. Martha McBrayer, daughter of Essie Austin - sister of Sallie Evie Austin - told me that Charles and his brother were part of the underground railroad that helped free the slaves. Appartently there were caves on their property in Alabama where they hid the slaves and then transported them in false bottom wagons to Chattanooga. Have you ever heard this story? Martha thinks that Charles died in a mental institution in Tuscaloosa and is buried there. I would appreciate any info you have.

He married Sallie Evie Austin. Their daughter was Nancy Viola Long who was my mother. I met my second cousin, Martha Parker McBrayer (Daughter of Essie Austin), last week who told me that Charles and his brother were involved in the underground railroad, hiding slaves in caves on their property and then transporting them in false bottom wagons to Chattanooga, Tennessee, toward freedom. Do you have any information on this? I have nothing on Charles. Martha told me that he died in a mental hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and she thinks he is buried there.
Dee, sorry this took so long to reply. I'm descended from Samuel and his first wife, Ann Stedman. They had initially settled in Bush River area of SC from Lancaster County, PA. Samuel's father was a well known Quaker minister. Anna was sister to my Joshua. The family moved to Ohio around 1807 but by then Joshua was on his own and living in Charleston. He had left the Quaker faith and way of living much to his father's distress. I'm working on a book on his son, William Henry Brown, who was a silhouette artist. Marion

Are you referring to the line of Averilla Ann "Ava" Parrott who married Elijah Paty in 1794? If so, that is my direct line and I do have a lot on this family. Most all of it was given to me many years ago by someone from the Parrott/Perrott line. It goes back about four generations but I haven't verified any of it.
If this is what you are looking for, let me know and I will post what I have here or I can email it to you.

Fern Paty May
