Michael
In response to your posting on the Paulk family of LA:
I am a descendant of Joshua Paulk (b TN) who came to LA in the mid 1800's. He and his sister, Nancy (married Richard Book), settled in Catahoula Parish and his brother John (married Margaret Nugent) settled in Rapides Parish.

If this is the family for whom you are searching, please contact me at Paulk1421@aol.com I would be happy to exchange information.

Leona Paulk Hatten

Hi again, i do see alot of same names in the family when a baby dies.
Larry Barnes has been a life saver for me. He did our Palk ancestry years ago and wrote a Palk Book. He sent me a CD last week.
I know on my tree,, every green leaf that pops up i follow it to the end of the names, lol. Im a first time user and it has my mind spinning & i know i have mistakes on it.
But i bought a Tree Maker and now that i have the Palk Book, im starting this over using what Larry sent me. The Middleton name is in it.
Sorry for rambling,,, havent had my coffee yet. ;)
Donna
Hi Donna -
Isn't Geneology fun!

I'm not sure we are related...Some of the names are familiar....Soloman, Samuel and Elizabeth...but those name were very common at the time, and as I have found - during the early years, sometimes there repeats of the same first name - especially if the first of the 'Jonathan's' died as a baby.

My family does dip into Georgia. As a suggestion - you might look at "The Paulk's in America." I believe Jesse Paulk wrote it.

There were several brothers that branched off - Samuel and Jonathan were 2 of several..... To complicate things a bit - I think the Georgia branch were cotton farmers - and (as I am abashed to say) owned slaves. Some of the slaves took the owners names -

Another thought - is the LDS website. You do not have to be Mormon to look up family history - there is a lot of information there too.

Good luck - and please keep me posted if you wish.

Namaste'
Sharalynne

Hi my name is Donna Gaynelle Palk.Palk is how we have spelled our name.My grandfather was Virgil Byers Palk & grandmother was Grace Hestor Lowhorn. But ive traced my ancesters on the Palk side to Jehu Palk born 1793 who married Elizabeth Barnett born 1797. In the 1820 Census of Monroe Co., Ky., he is listed as Jehu Paulk and 1830 Census of Marion Co., Tn as Hugh Polk. Maybe that is why i cant go any further than him because of the way our name is spelled. If any one has information on him or other Palks,, Please reply. His kids are
1.Fanny Susan(Savanah)Palk- Born 1823 Tn
2.Peter Palk- Born 1825 Ky
3.Soloman Palk- Born 1827 Ky
4.Adam Littleton Palk- Born 1829 Tn
5.Samuel K Palk- Born 1832 Tn
6.Nancy Ann Palk- Born 1834 Ky
7.Elizabeth Palk- Born 1836 Tn

Re: PAULK FAMILY

My GGGGrandfather Jesse Paulk married Mahala Elizabeth Arnold in North Carolina 1829, but they lived in South Carolina from what I have found. They moved west and they had a girl in Tennessee in 1839, who they named Martha. They moved on to Texas and settled in Bell County, Belton. They had several children. My GGGrandfather came up from Tennessee and went to work on a farm there and met Martha and married her. His name was James Matthew Everett. They had two sons, one of which was my GGrandfather Levi Washington Everett. He met and married Malinda Jane Wallace and they had 14 children, one of which my Grandmother Lily Bell Williamson who married Note Archilles Williamson and they gave birth to my Dad Steven Levi Williamson known to all as "Harry".

What caught my eye in your story is you said your Grandmother left the reservation to marry Richard Paulk. Ihave not been able to find any background on my GGGGrandmother Mahala Elizabeth Arnold and since I know that we have Indian blood and my Dad said Cherokee possibly Mahala was Indian? Can you give me any insight on the subject?

Please send me an e-mail at crazylinny49@yahoo.com.

Linda

Was wondering if your mother's name might be Billie Jane. My dad, Cleveland Paulk was Wade Paulk's brother so, according to your reply to Barb, your mother Lennie would be my dad's sister. I remember him talking about a sister he called TeeTee (sp)who passed away very young leaving two daughters. I also remember two girls about my age named Billie and Mamie. I will soon be 77.

Hello Barbara:
Wade and Lois were my aunt and uncle. My dad, Cleveland Charles Paulk, was Wade's brother. Your dad and I are 1st cousins. I last saw Wade shortly before my father died in 1977, and
your dad and the rest in probably the early 50's. Have often wondered about them. Heard about JWs death from Madge Paulk,(wife of O.D., another brother of Wade's). I was born Sept. 3, 1931 and am an only child.

But Jonathan is with his mother in 1880 also in Chipola, Henry Co.

I have looked for your Richard and Caroline in 1880 but haven't found them which is why I thought they might be the "R" and Susan C, I'm looking for.

Thank you,
Brenda

I have never been able to find a further census for "R" and "Susan C" and moving to Geneva Co, certainly would not have been out of the question, as there were other Paulks there. Do you have any idea who your Richard's parents were? I believe that "R" is the son of Jonathan Paulk and Nancy Ann Elizabeth Ducker.

You mention Susan Caroline and Richard, does that mean you've run across them other than that 1880 census? If so, do you remember where? I've searched and searched.

Brenda

No, different people. Caroline and Richard spent most of their married lives in Geneva County, Al.. I have often wondered about Susan Caroline and her Richard.
Carolines parents were John R. Hatton and Sarah Anna Elizabeth King.
If there`s a connection, let me know. I have info on both the King and Hatton families.
Lisa D.

Let me dig around in the BC files (Before Computers). I`ve ran accross Susan Caroline many times over the years. As for Richard M., depending on which census you are looking at, he was born in Ga., Fl., or S.C.! Family lore says he went west and came back with an indian girl, Caroline. John Hatton did move his family to Texas at the end of the Civil War, including Caroline.
Thank you for replying. This is for a brother of an uncle by marriage. Luella married William Arnold I believe. Someone has responded and is in contact with my "relative". William may have had a second wife but Luella/Lulla goes to Oklahoma and her sons Arthur and Auodin?? move with her. I think the easiest thing for me, since I have no plans but to forward info, would to have Bill Paulk email you directly if you think you can provide info. If this is not a line you have info for, thanks for the reply.

I also have a picture of LaRue Dorminy which I believe is the child of Jacob and Dora that passed away in infancy. I also have some pictures of their other child, Lois, as a young girl. I found these in some old pictures from my grandmother's house. If you would like for me to scan and email these to you, please let me know.

Hi. I am trying to find out more info on the Paulks that made a home in Chickasaw County, MS.

Not sure if I have things correct (pretty sure I do), and I am stuck at Isaac Paulk.

I have John P. Porter (1879-1965) as the son of CC Porter and Roxanne Boyce Paulk.

Roxanne Boyce Paulk (b. 1860) as the daughter of Isaac Paulk (1815-1880) and Mary Smith Porter (b 1820)

Issac Paulk (1815-1880) as the son of Joseph and Phebe Paulk in Union, SC.

Then I'm stuck. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks mightily in advance!
