Kathryn Paulus was born in NY in 1855. Her parents were from AlsaceLorraine area. She was orphaned, along with at least one brother and sister. I have a Michael Paulus in NY in 1860, and the family never appears again. Daughters Mary(Lena) and Catherine). They were sent from NYC to Franklinville, NY for a summer program. A family named Reynolds kept Kathryn, but never adopted her. Her brother and sister moved farther west with new families. Sometime after 1900, Kathryn went "west" and met up with her sister, Lena. Never found brother. Question: Clarence Mather (1895) and Joseph Mather(1897) don't appear with the family in 1900 census. Joe's wife was told by her father in law (Asa Mather, husband of Kathryn) that Joe's real name was Paulus, and that it was changed. Does anyone have a record of a Clarence and Joseph Paulus, maybe who were orphaned? I'm wondering whether Kate brought them back with her, rather than took them with her when she met her sister.
