I have just noticed your message, I am researching my maiden name Paxton.
I have just gone back as far as about 1790?
My third great grandparents were James Paxton and Margaret Currie, who were married in Canongate, Edinburgh, Scotland. 13 February 1817. There son James Ferdinand Douglas Paxton was my Great great Grandfather who i have just found out commited suicide in Eastbourne, Sussex, England, UK in August 1891.
I don't have the death certificate yet, but I am sending of for it tomorrow. I looked up the bdm site and saw it, His son Peter Paxton was a famous Professional golf Player and Club Maker. And in the 1891 Census James F D Paxton was staying with his son Peter Paxton in Eastbourne, Sussex.
I telephoned the town hall to order the death certificate but they were to busy so sugested I send for it through the post, but they did check it out to make sure it was my James Paxton first. I also put a message on a list I belong to in Eastbourne, to find out if Peter Paxton would have put an Obituary in the local eastbourne paper, but someone got in touch with me and said there was an Article about James Paxton commiting suicide in the same month and year.
I am also waiting for the person to get back to me, as I am going to order a copy of the News Article.
I would like to be able to go back a bit more further on my Paxton line if possible? I have the Marriage banns of James Paxton and Margaret Currie but it do not tell me much about James at all, It do not mention his parents names. I know abit more about Margaret Currie, but nothing on James Paxton.
I am only guessing that he was born between 1790 - 1795.
I will be greatful for any information on the Paxton surname from Scotland. My Paxton's were from Musselburgh, Inveresk, Midlothian, Scotland. Thank you in advance for any information I might receive.
