Lessie Mae Armstrong Paxton, 79, of 1491 Northside Road, Elizabeth City, N.C. died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Va. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, Elizabeth City, with the Rev. Dr. Roosevelt Askew officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Elizabeth City, N.C. Viewing will be today from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the home of the deceased. Stallings Funeral Home, Elizabeth City is in charge of arrangements. Ms. Paxton was the daughter of the late Embria and Lela Armstrong. She is survived by five daughters, Faye Griffin of Virginia Beach, Va., Mary Shelton and husband, Dewey, of Newark, N.J., Dorothy Bournes of Dover, Del., Dolline Edwards and husband, James, of Martinez, Ga. and Stephanie Johnson and husband, Larry, of Elizabeth City, N.C.; four sons, Welton Paxton and wife, Elorse, Percy Paxton and wife, Dalphina, and David Paxton and wife, Tammy, all of Elizabeth City, N.C. and Terry Paxton of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Alice Jean Spence and husband, Welton, of Elizabeth City, N.C. and Lela Chasten and husband, Robert, of Chesapeake, Va.; 21 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
