Sorry that I got my rebellions mixed up, but Francois Payette , who founded a fort on the Oregon-California Trail and known as the Grand Old Man of the Snake had a son, Baptiste who helped Louis Riel in the Metis Rebellion, not the Red River Rebellion. He escaped and all his ancestors carry Snake Indian blood, as his father married two Snake Indian women , one of which was the mother of Baptiste. We also have an Objibwa connection , but I haven't found the link yet. We also have an ancesstor, Andrew MacLaughlin, n North-west fur trader, who married a Payette,I cannot find the continuation of his line yet. I have been told that Payettes have the right to wear the MacLaughlin tartan if they want to attend a Scottish festival.
