CLIFFORD CARLTON PAYNE - bio
Clifford CARLTON PAYNE was born in Drumheller, Alberta, Canada in 1919, 5th child of Ethan and Emma PAYNE. At the age of 9 years he moved to Towner with his family, where he attended the grades and high school. In 1937 he became employed as linotype operator and printer at the Mouse River Farmers press where he continued to work until 1941. He was married to Annabelle GENRE in 1940. She was born in 1921, Deadwood, South Dakota, first child of Horace and Grace Genre.
Cliff was engaged in printing in Forsthe, Montana and Hettinger, NORTH DAKOTA before returning to Towner in 1943 to go into ranching with his father-in-law until the late 1950's when he purchased the ranch.
The Paynes had six children:

Richard O.
Debrah L.
Penelope R.
Robin D.
The Payne's sold the ranch and moved to Towner in 1965. The Payne's are members of the Presbyterian Church.
