Your grandmother, Dora Ake, was married to William Porter Wemp, who was born born in Millhaven, Ontario Canada. He left home at a young age, and followed the railroad to Louisiana.
His family (and mine) are Wemps and we are all from Amherst Island, Ontario. I have spent many hours researching your branch of the family and have a great deal of information for you. Richard Homer Hart has been a special mystery for me. Please contact me at my email address joyne@sympatico.ca. Can't wait to hear from you...Joyce Brown

Jonathan Paine born 1690 in Hunterdon, New Jersey, married Susannah Horseman

I am trying to locate the parents and family of Jonathan Paine born 1690 in Hunterdon, New Jersey. Most family trees show his parents as John Pain and Abagail Curtis, but this cannot be correct. Jonathan was born in 1690 and John and Abagail were married in 1699. Also, it is documented that John and Abagail had only one child after their short marriage and then John died. Furthermore, John is said to have been born around 1683 which would mean he fathered Jonathan at the age of seven!!!
So who could be Jonathan's parents? What other Paine families in Hunterdon, New Jersey?
As for Jonathan Paine and Susannah HORSEMAN's children, I have Jonathan, Sanuel and Elizabeth Payne (they changed the spelling from Paine to Payne).
Help please.

Yes, I would be interested in this line of Paynes. Where do you have it posted? I have been looking for my Paynes for almost 10 years and know very little more than what I knew 10 years ago. GRRRRRRR!!! We did my Daddy's DNA before he passed, and we are still in the UNKNOWN category. How can this be? I know that my g-g-grandfather Elijah F. Payne was not hatched. LOL Thank you for your offer.
Toodles,
Jo Payne-Pierce

Delma Payne of Vienna Georgia matches my DNA perfectly. I believe that he is related to you. His father, Clint Payne of Wilcox co. Ga., was the son of Walter ( Walton ) Payne of Cherokee Co. Ga. Descendants of Walter Payne, that being Oscar, Clint, and Bennett Edward ( Ed ) Payne settled in Turner and Wilcox counties in south Georgia. Oscar and Ed lived near my Payne family in Turner Co., but we claimed no kin until recent DNA testing from Delma Payne, who matches my DNA, proved that we are from the same family.

I have researched my Payne line for 33 years, and have it back to 1696 in London England. If anyone is interested in this family tree, please let me know.

Yes, you are on the right track. I have volumes on Matthew Payne's family. We cannot find out who Amelia "Milly" Cooper's family was. Do you have more information on her?
What do you need to know? Be specific and I'll look it up.

John W. Payne

My great grandfather was rumored to have been a Payne prior to coming to Apalachicola, Florida. Supposedly he had a brother named Robert Payne. Supposedly after the death of his father he left Galveston, Tx and went to Apalachicola as a young teen. He changed his name to John W. Wilson and spent the remainder of his life there. Does anyone have a MISSING John W. Payne? Just a shot in the dark here..John had Irish appearance traits..red hear, fair complexion, etc.

Thanks,
Roy krwilso@gmail.com

First Post -from a descendant of Alvah Payne

Hi! My name is Philip Payne. I am a GGGrandson of Alvah Payne of Shelby Alabama. Reffered to as Alvah Clay Payne on the internet but I don't know where the "Clay" came from. I have never seen it on any record.
I have been lurking about on the internet for a few years now trying to fill in my family tree after getting a very good start
from my aunt Betty Payne Carden. She worked for years at the old shelby courthouse preserving the old records before the computer and the internet took over.
My problem is trying to link Alvah to his Father who (almost) everyone seems to think is Philip. Aunt Betty thinks he is and I do as well but I have no proof. Those who are familiar with this Payne line from Virginia to Franklin Co. Georgia and beyond
(And if you are not just google David S. Payne- whose list has been very helpful to me) seem to know very little about Philip.
His parentage is not known for sure but seems to be John Payne Sr. 1722-1781 of Pittsylvania Co. VA.
He definiately was in Franklin GA. where he married Millie Cawthon and Alvah was suppose to be born there in 1804. If anyone has seen a record of Alvahs' birth please let me know.
I recently ran across some very interesting records on the internet from Giles Co. TN. They are on the Tngenweb site and are the 1810 Elk River Intruders list, the 1812 Elkton petition and 1812 tax list. These may be common knowledge to researchers of this group of Paynes but I have not seen it mentioned. Philip is on the 1812 tax list and the 1912 petition. I strongly believe this is my Philip because also on these lists are: William (jr. or sr. or both?) Thomas-who I believe is the Thomas who later moved to Shelby Co. Alabama, several other Payne/Paines and also Michael Rork and Larkin Webb who were married to daughters of William Payne Sr.
There is a Philip Payne on the 1820 Dallas Co. Alabama Census. I don't know if this is my Philip.
Philip doesn't appear on any Shelby Co. Alabama census but a Philip Pain (I think all these different spellings mean very little) bought 80 acres from the govt on a 1824 Shelby Co. land patent(deed). There is also some sort of record in the Shelby Co. records-orphans court index(on the shelby co. website) Thomas is also on this list. So I believe he was there just not at census time.
I have no idea what happened to Phillip or Millie after this nor does any one else seem to.
If anyone has any information about Philip I would greatly appriciate hearing it.

Philip Payne
