Re: Pearce family - St. Johnsbury, Vermont area

Well, Howdy Cuz !!!
I only have Stephen Pearce's name & birthdate of 14 apr 1880 born in Vermont (maybe NH) and died November 1921. Is this info correct? This is the only info I have. I don't even have a wife or children of Stephen. Any info to fill the blanks is highly welcomed. Cetainly I can exchange info.
I am a descendant of Stephen's brother Walter Elijah George Pearce, my G-grandfater. His son Stanley Samuel Pearce, my mother Beverly A. Pearce and myself Kirby England.
I have a family photo of Samuel Elijah Pearce & Elizabeth Sizen's family. It has been a mystery to Identify the people in the photo. If I can find a way to scan the pic onto the computer, you could possibly ID some of the people. One of Samuel & Elizabeth's sons is wearing a military uniform in the photo. I can tell that he is a Pearce, but do not know who he is.
As far as info on Samuel's parents, according to my mother, she heard stories as a child that Samuel E. Pearce served in the British Navy during the Crimean War, dropped anchor in a Canadian port and Samuel jumped ship and traveled to New Hamspshire. It was taken that Samuel already had family (possible a sibling) living in NH.

Please contact me at;
Hassyfoto@comcast.net
I am looking for information on George Washington Peace, born approximately 1828 in Greenville County, SC. I have found a Washington Peace in the 1850 Census. Nelly Peace age 60 appears in the same household. Later in life, my George Washington Peace marries Mazy Farmer, who appears in the Greenville County census as Massy Farmer. They have a son named Joseph Peace.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks for the tips on your Coatesville lineage. My great-grandfather Frank L Peace (b 1866) took over at Fairview Cemetery after William S Peace died. Frank's father, Thomas Peace, was born abt 1925 in England. My father, who grew up in Coatesville, tells me that Thomas and James were brothers. William S Peace could be another brother but so far all I have is the Fairview Cemetery connection.

But lived with his grandparents in Old Tazewell, Clarborn Co., Tn. most of his young life. Their is where he meet his wife, who was not Huldie Matthew as you show. And also here is where your greatgrandmother Sallie, and your grandfathers brother Porter is buried. Could you tell me where did you get this information from about John and Hulda?

Hi Claire
I am really pleased about this news of our family. First let me put you right on Alfred Lindley Peace and Wilhelmina Meggitt (Ihave a photo of both them). They had 9 children (4 died in infancy). Their 6th child was Alfred Ernest, who was my grandfather, he married Jane Coultas and they had 3 children 1 of which was Alfred Lindley Peace jnr. who was my father. He was the one that married twice (unfortunately his 1st wife died after about 18 months of marriage). I,ve been searching for Ann (Oxley's) death certificate, I knew she died between 1841 and 1851(census). I have quite a lot of information on James and Anne's children, including Sir Walter Peace. By the way, I have a copy of the marriage of James Peace and Anne Dransfield. They married in St Peters Church Huddersfield. There is so much I would like to discuss with you. Is it possible that we could confer more directly by email? If you agree my email address is eric@epeace.force9.co.uk it would be easier to send photo's and section of our tree etc.
Do you live in England?
Best wishes
Eric

Hello Claire
It looks as though we have a family link with James Peace. He was my great, great grandfather and Alfred Lindley Peace was my great grandfather. As my father, also named Alfred Lindley Peace, was married twice and I was from his second marriage, then for me there is a generation lost.
Do we agree that James Peace was born 1801 in Shepley, Huddersfield. That he married Anne Dransfield from Almondbury, Huddersfield. James was a professor of music and played the church organ for Holy Trinity and St Peter's church, both in Huddersfield. Alfred Lindley senior also was a organist for St Nicholas Church in Thorne, Doncaster. He was also the church warden of that church for about 12-14 years.
I have a few photo's and would be interested to exchange etc. Which of James' children is your great, great grandfather? Also do you have any information of James' father and mother etc? I'm lost there.
Looking forward to your reply.
best wishes
Eric Peace
There were other sibs: Caroline, Sarah, Ellen Herny, Charles. It's made me crazy. Anyone know of this line?

No, this Benjamin Beebee wasn't the mayor. Mary Peace b. 1808 d/o Henry Peace and Elizabeth Holmes from the Walsall area, married Benjamin in l832. He was a plater and employed several people. They had four children, Henry, George, Samuel and Ellen M. Benjamin died in 1871 and Mary died in l893. They for a while lived next door to her sister, Eliza Peace Black who lived for a zillion years at 123 Hatherton st or square. She must have owned the surrounding homes/apartments as she rented them out to her family and others and lived off the income from her rentals.

Your history centre there in Walsall should be able to help you find out how you are connected to the Beebee family.

I think that Benjamin's parents could have been a William Beebee and his wife Sarah.

good luck !

Dear Eric

I was most intereted in your reply. Yes we are talking about the same James Peace who married Anne Dransfield. I am descended from James's daughter Eliza Ann who married John Carr of Barnsley. Their daughter Kate married Fred Harrop. Their daughter was Margaret Winifred,my grandmother.
I have a copy of the death certificate of James' mother, Ann (nee Oxley) originally of Kirkburton who was married to a John Peace of Shepley, clothier. Ann died in 1847.
I did not know Alfred Lindley was an organist although I knew his father was a professor of music and apparently Anne Dransfield was a 'vocalist'.
I also did not know Alfred Lindley had been married twice. I know he was married to Wilhemina Meggett so I would be grateful if you could fill me in on the details.

With best wishes
Claire

This looks like it's the same family as mine. I've got Annie Peace, born 1887 Amerton, Staffs. She fell pregnant while working as a domestic servant in Gratwich and had the baby in 1908 in Uttoxeter.
Annie's father was William John (b. Pasture Fields, nr Hixon abt.1864) and her mother was Mary Stevenson (b. Hixon 1867).
William's father was Robert Simnet (or Simnett) Peace, mentioned in Darryl's generously-shared report.
I have other information - just let me know what you need and I'll see if I can help.

Simnet Peace

There seems to be a tradition in one side of the Peace family (based around Derbyshire/Staffordshire, UK) of using the name 'Simnet' as a middle name. The first of these in my family tree seems to be William Simnet Peace, born about 1811 possibly in Newhall, Derbys.
I was wondering if anybody had traced the origin of this tradition? I'm assuming it was originally the maiden name of one of the female Peaces?
Interestingly, I've found a Leslie Simnet Peace on the Role of Honour for the Special Forces. He's not on my family tree yet, but probably will feature there one day as my research progresses.
If he's in your family tree, have a look at: http://www.specialforcesroh.com/browse.php?mode=viewiroll&am... you seem to have a hero on your hands!

Re: Peace surname, can it be Scottish?

Sharlotte,
You were asking about the name Peace. Here is the original Orkney version.

Peace. Sir Bernard Pess was a commander of an Orkney contingent against Denmark in 1306
The name means "One born at Easter" and is one of the oldest surnames in Orkney. It is still common in Orkney mainly In Sanday, Stronsay and Kirkwall.
Yours,
Mike fae Falkirk.
