I didn’t know Jere Peacock who died here in January 1970 at 42, but who during his career he won attention for two books which caused controversy. “Vahalla” (Putnam, 1960) described service in the Marines in Korea and in Japan following the Panmunjom Armistice and got mixed reactions from praise to harsh criticism.

A second novel, “To Drill and Die,” also military oriented, did better in Europe than in this county, reportedly.

Peacock, from Yakima, served with the Marines in Korea.
