I have two sets of Peake's. 1. Sarah Peak parents George and Hannah. Sarah married Jeruel Phillips. 2. Harriet Peak parents Lewis Peak and Harriet Margaret Watts. Harriet Peak married Daniel Mahoney and thats where the Mahoney comes in. Lewis's parents were George and Hannah so Sarah Peak was his sister.

Susan

I found this interesting with the name Peak. In the early years of Maryland they had a medium of exchange, or kind of currency called Peak and Roenoke, which was afterwards used to some extend by the whites in dealings with the indians. Peak consisted of small pollished cylinders about a third of an ich long and a quarter of an inch in diameter, wrought out of the clam, or mussel shell, and drilled longitudinally for the passage of a string. It was of two colors, dark purple and white, the former, which was called wampum-peak, being twice the value of the latter.

Susan Isaac

This is what I have found on the internet. George Peake was born in Maryland. If he was indian then he might have been of he Pocomokes tribe. There was a treaty signed by one of the chiefs in 1742 by chief Jeremey Peake in Maryland. Jeremey was one of the Pocomokes chiefs. The indians fled to PA and RI during this time period. Our George Peake would have been 20 years of age and he did end up in PA. Go to this website and read what they have to say. There are many sites with the same type info just google in Jeremy Peake Indian. The Maryland archives has this same information also. You will find that this group of Indians were of mixed blood.

http://lynncjackson.com/family/uprising.htm
http://www.ocmuseum.org/articles/indians.asp

Susan Isaac

Hi there,

I am descended from a line of Peakes that settled in Hartney, Manitoba, Canada. My grandfather's name was Carl Peake but I know very little about the family beyond him. I am really interested to know how they got there, where they came from, all that good stuff.

If anyone has any information about how we ended up in the Canadian prairies I would be very grateful!

Thank you,

Riley J.
I just saw your post about having the Peake/Peak Family History book and was if you might be able to look up some information for me. I am searching for the parents of my Great Grandmother Elizabeth Lottie Peak. She was born 9 Aug 1849 in Barbour Co, AL, she married James Daniel Sansom in Oct 1877 in Crenshaw Co, AL and died 5 May 1927 and was buried at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in south Montgomery Co, AL. Her mother’s first name was Rebecca I don’t know her maiden name. Elizabeth had a sister name Mary Jane, she married John Davis and a brother named Nathaniel T, he married Laura P Anderson. Elizabeth’s father died sometime between 1849 – early 1852. Rebecca remarried a Johny W Ward 23 Sep 1852 in Henry Co, AL; she died 6 Jan 1907 and is also buried in Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery in Montgomery Co, AL. I would appreciate any information or guidance you can give me.

Thanks Thomas
There were generations of Peaks from his part of Tennessee.
